Nicholas Pooran retires from international cricket [Update@ Post#117]

I'm not convinced that it's a loyalty to country issue. It's just about money.

If you split the Windies up into smaller countries and the players will still leave to play leagues.

In fact players will probably be less likely to play for the Caribbean countries. These guys won't get out of bed to play a Barbados V Netherland T20 international.
If they are patriotic, they would or atleast those who claim to be. The likes of Narine and others. If they aren't, then their claims would be just excuses. Ganga also raised this issue a few years ago that dividing WI into different countries may actually help them.

I don't think Windies should be broken because it has a massive legacy. They are a 4-time World Champions.

Klaasen recently retired also. So, I don't think it is a "composite team" issue. Franchise cricket is the main reason I guess.
The thing with SA is they have an incredibly good grassroot system and are possibly the most talented cricketing nation alongside NZ if we're talking about population. They churn out international cricketers like its nothing. SA will be able to replace Klaasen. For SA, it's more about the quota system honestly. Abbott, Morkel and Olivier. Even Philander stated that wc 15 govt interference asking him to be included ahead of Abbott killed some of his passion for international cricket and the whole episode left him deflated otherwise he wouldn't have retired in 2020-21

More than anything, this is a wake-up call for all boards except BCCI. If they don't find a holistic way forward they will keep losing players. In particular, boards need to start being flexible when it comes to player availability for bilaterals. In Pakistan, you can probably emotionally blackmail players on the pretext of 'patriotism' till a certain point but eventually that will start wearing thin too.
Pakistan doesn't have a choice tbh. They can't get picked for IPL. Other leagues don't pay as much.
We saw Shaheen preferring il20 for fc cricket and his form is pretty evident of how he has done in longer formats in last 2 years. The ones who want to succeed in the longer formats can't be globetrotters tbh otherwise their test and odi form would suffer. Steyn played almost all tests alongside IPL and his form didn't suffer till his body gave way. His workload was managed exceptionally by CSA.

WI won twice not because other sides didnt took those tournaments seriously but bcoz they got outplayed. They humbled host Lanka in 2012 and beat India in semis and Eng in finals to win 2016 version.

World T20 is a very prestigious tournament. Who told you it is non serious? That is why Bangladesh won it so many times, is it?

:shakib
Eh not really. Its a good tournament but I feel its ruined by the fact that it happens after every 2 years.

Honestly cricket needs a do over.

World cup is fine, but CT is pointless now as it's literally just a bootleg mini wc without any hype surrounding it.

T20 World cup is good as t20 needs its own World Cup but every 2 years is irritating.

Idk why icc feels the desperate need to host a tournament every god damn year.

We dont need that many tournaments.

To the people who keep suggesting WI should be broken into its individual islands:

If the WI as a collective struggles to compete then how do you expect island nations with tiny populations to fare ?

Nicholas Pooran Named Captain Of Mumbai Indians New York Days After International Retirement

Just-retired West Indies batting star Nicholas Pooran has been appointed captain of MI New York for the upcoming season of Major League Cricket (MLC). The 29-year-old Pooran announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday after "much thought and reflection" even though he did not give any specific reasons for his stunning decision. "...there's a new commander in town - captain Nicholas Pooran," the inaugural MLC champions posted on X.

"This left-handed wicket-keeper batter is one of the world's most feared batters going around. At the peak of his powers currently, he's all set to take us to greater glories under his leadership," stated the franchise, which is owned by Reliance Industries, the owners of IPL side Mumbai Indians.

Pooran was the highest run-scorer in the 2023 MLC season with 388 runs. The third season will get underway from Thursday. MI New York also features other international stars like Quinton de Kock, Kieran Pollard and Rashid Khan among others.

I don’t think it’s the worst idea to let the compete as their Island’s in T20i cricket

But not in Test cricket. They should just be one nation.
