"No point being bitter about my non-selection" : Fawad Alam

in round 7
Fawad reached his 60th first class half-century and was unbeaten on 75 from 113 balls

24th highest run scorer until all the good bowlers departed either with the full national team or the Emerging Players squad....

He bats in the lower middle order, and one game out of five was rained off...

Some quotes from his presser at the QEA

"The sign I made to the dressing room after 12k runs was to make Khurram Manzoor happy as he had told me to do something special for this milestone"

"Every player who is performing in domestic cricket is hopeful [for a place in the home series vs SL], and sometimes even if you aren't performing then even then you can get a place in the side - so even that person is also hopeful; World runs on hope, as do I"

"All cricket that I know today is due to what's been taught by my father"

"When I have a casual conversation regarding my selection, then it seems all is OK but when it happens [non selection] then there is nothing more I can do"

"If someone does give me an answer, it should be a fair one" [dancing around the subject a bit I guess]

"I am not that big a player that I can go and speak one-on-one with anyone about this as people in selection committee are legends of the game"

"There are a lot of things I can say but I will not be allowed to say them; If I get too involved in these things then I will move away from cricket which is why I dont do this"

He has alot of patience. If i was in his place i would have burned my kit infront of Chief selector's home. The biggest injustice ever in Pakistan cricket. :misbah

"There are a lot of things I can say but I will not be allowed to say them"

Somethings quite fishy. Someone needs to take PCB to court to extract out the exact reasons for Fawad not getting a break into test side for over 10 years despite such a phenomenal record year after year

It’s hilarious when people cite technical deficiencies in his batting as the reason for not being selected when the ones apparently technically apt than him couldn’t score on this current tour or any other overseas tour for that matter.

give him a chance man? Yes he isn't a marketable guy but c'mon he is clearly more skilful than every other pak batsman.

Fawad Alam speaking with Shahid Afridi:

"This season we have some excellent pitches to play on in domestic, we are using Kookaburra balls where the tough bowlers do well and the good batsmen have to work hard to score"

"You have also played cricket so you know that you dont need to 'prepare' Kookaburra balls; I havent seen any bowlers or bowling of the type of Umar Gul, Waqar Younis at the moment"

"Umpiring standard is so far, so good but of course needs improvement"

Clearly evident that bribery talks

I wish he had got an opportunity in SENA to prove himself. Even Shahzad, Azhar, etc. can score runs in the UAE.

Misbah scored the joint fastest hundred (at that time) against Aus. Lol

That shows you how much home advantage benefits the home side

Sorry Fawad, Misbah had other plans

See you in England 2020 when we are two-down in the series and you are selected just to save some backlash being directed towards Misbah (& Azhar)..

and the sad thing is there are 80% chances of him failing in England. One failure and he will be discarded for being a domestic bully who can't play in SENA conditions.

He basically has one innings left to save his sorry career that is on ventilator. He has been shockingly poor since returning to the side last summer and has not looked like scoring runs at any point.

The selectors were right to ignore him all these years. He can be prolific in Asian conditions and perhaps Caribbean but he is completely hopeless everywhere else.

He would have done better than Shafiq in UAE, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Caribbean but he would have fared worse in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, in spite of the fact that Shafiq has mostly been a one innings wonder in these venues.

Overall, the domestic average flatters him because he benefited from the conditions and the low quality bowling and fielding by Pakistani domestic cricketers.

If he fails in the next innings and gets dropped, or if he gets picked for the next Test and fails again, he will not be in a position to complain and his supporters should also stop drumming about his mistreatment.

The sad bit is that even if he flukes some runs in the next few Tests including vs South Africa at home, it is only a matter of time before he loses the plot again.

Moving on from him after this series and giving a new batsman the chance to play South Africa at home would be a sensible decision.

Horrible shot by Fawad to get out to, tried hooking Wagner when he was struggling to even put bat on ball

So happy for him. Even die hard fawad Alam fans thought that this would be it for fawad.
I love his grit. He is old and past his peak.

Just can't imagine how many tests he could have saved for pakistan over the decade.

Compare his attitude to amir

Moan moan moan, that is all you do. Is any Pakistan player good enough for your royal standards. Closet Indian fan.

He gave you a hard slap on your face with this innings.

Great grit and determination from Fawad slap on the face for all the his haters

I have had the pleasure of meeting Fawad at several events and in club cricket over the years.

Not once has he ever moaned, criticised or spoken negatively about any team mate, coach, selector or PCB employee, on or off the record.

I suspect that's the reason why so many people instinctively appreciate him Saj, across countries.

Me for example, I've sort of noticed that unlike almost every other Pakistani payer he has no use for self seeking headlines, flash, or entitled behaviour. Despite being so unfortunate in terms of selection for a decade.

I think Fawad Alam really brings out the best in us- Like most of us he is average, less talented, not flashy.

But like most of us hope for ourselves, he perseveres and he goes on. And exactly as we hope for ourselves, he wins.

I have a fleeting suspicion that all of us who support him are also actually supporting out own best selfs.

Now according to this moaning poster Fawad's innings was useless he doesnt deserve any credit. I have been active in all fawad threads and not once has he talked about injustice done to Fawad yet he has the guts to say selectors were right in not selecting him. I mean what the hell how can anybody be right in not selecting a guy as proficient as fawad even once in a whold decade.

He is averaging 26 since his comeback, at the age of 35 with 160+ matches and 12,000+ FC runs under his belt.

I must say the slap on my face is harder than the one I got from my Dad when I crashed my bicycle into his car in 5th grade......

4th innings in the first test was a typical SC pitch, there was no real bounce hence he scored the century otherwise doesn't have any technique

Fawad is a living example of why nepotism is not always a bad thing. Nepotism can produce good results as well.

Fawad is a domestic cricket legend but he is also a product of nepotism. wouldn’t have played FC cricket if his father was not Tariq Alam, a respected and prominent FC cricketer.

A batsman with Fawad’s stance and technique will not get selected in any trial or talent hunt program.

But he has his own way of batting and it has served him extremely well at the domestic level. Without his father’s reach in the cricket circle, he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to prove himself in FC cricket.

We already have enough seniors who play a couple of useless innings and then don't perform for the next several matches. If Fawad is to stay, he has to do better than that by at least averaging 40+. Those are not even high expectations given his FC experience and age. If he can't do that, it's better to give chances to younger guys like Saud, Kamran, etc.

His legendary average is boosted by playing mostly on flat tracks of Karachi

His dismissals since his comeback clearly show that he is not capable of averaging 50+ in Test cricket, so his fans need to stop shoving his FC average down everyone’s throats. It is clearly a misleading statistic and does not represent his caliber in Test cricket.

An average of 26 after two tours by itself not the end of the world. We have seen ATG batsmen produce worse returns on a couple of tours, but the real eye-opener is the way he has been dismissed.

For example, his dismissal in the second innings was plain embarrassing. I don’t I have ever seen a 55+ averaging get squared up like this.

He looked no different than a number 11 nightwatchman.

Everyone knows he's not the player he was a few years ago.

It's yet another example of Pakistan cricket wasting the best years of one of their cricketers.

A century is a century besides what did the Indian batsmen do in their series against NZ? They had much worse batting averages. Highest batting average of an Indian was 25 by Agarwal.

Once again showing his class in this first Test against West Indies. At the crease when Pakistan were 68/4, and now playing a fighting partnership with Faheem to try rescue the innings once more.
