North India versus South India (Why is South so much better?)

Interesting data points. Avenues for women's education and workplace inclusion is one area Pakistan definitely has room for improvement compared to other developing countries.

I had to look up many of these cities since they are new names to me. The top few cities in the less than 1 Million ranking all seem to be from one state which also has a few in the 1 Million+ ranking. Why is that so, is this state (Tamil Nadu?) much better for women for some reason? Some unique cultural attribute there?

Women are usually part of workforce in southern states , Bengal, Maharashtra, NE, probably Orissa as well. In Gujarat and Punjab usually they will join family business if not working by themselves. The primary issue with women participation in education and workforce is in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, MP or largely the Hindi Belt. These states collectively constitute almost 40% of countries population and as long as they continue to limit their women while also not paying enough attention to family planning, they will continue to remain socially backward and in many cases financially backward..

I investigated India’s failed city of Rs 6,67,000 CRORES | Amaravati

Amaravati was going to be the modern and sustainable capital of Andhra Pradesh!
  • It was planned to be made with an estimated amount of 1.3 billion USD (that’s 10,000 crore!)
  • The World Bank with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank invested 500 million USD for this project.
  • 24,000 farmers gave up 35,000 acres of land for the greenfield city. This is bigger than the area of Chandigarh.
  • The city was planned to accommodate a huge population of 3.5 million people.
  • Amaravati planners assumed that 1.5 million jobs would be created in this city.
  • The city was supposed to have underground electricity lines and internet cables.
  • The legislative house was planned to be 68 metres taller than the Statue of Unity.
  • Planners of this city had a vision of a sustainable city that’s why 50% of the city was planned to be left for greenspaces.
  • But one election in 2019 changed everything, when Jagan Mohan Reddy won the election he decided that Amaravati’s plan would not be taken forward and cancelled it.
  • Instead he proposed the 3 capital plan which is being contested in the court as we speak and the verdict would be delivered after the elections of 2024, while pushing the farmers who gave up their land into uncertainty.
