Coming off the back of the PSL, I'm not too bothered about the IPL to be perfectly frank. I'm sure most of our Indian posters and guests will be right into it but how about our Pakistani posters and posters from other nations. Are you guys watching or just taking a passing interest?

I’m just checking scores to see how my favorite ATG players like Bumrah and Pandya are getting along.

I watched a couple of balls when scrolling through channels. Also looked at the scoredcard of few games but that's about it. Last full game I watched was the first editions's final.

I tuned in for a little bit to watch Kohli in his team's first match this season. Haven't see anything since.

I am watching it. Some good cricket really and only would get better with amir and Hassan. Some premium fast bowlers pulled out, starc, cummin, rabada but otherwise it is good. I am mostly watching the Indian talent and most of them are good but then some are not up to the mark

I don't expect any self-respecting Pakistani to see IPL until they stop discrimination against Pakistani players.

Have occasionally tuned in to watch AB in the past but haven't watched any of it yet this season. Quite busy so that plays a part, but tbh, not very interested either way.

I'm sure there's some casual viewers in Pakistan though.

Haven't seen a single IPL game since the very few from IPL 1.

I don't expect any self-respecting Pakistani to see IPL until they stop discrimination against Pakistani players.

That's very illogical. BCCI and Indian cricketers have no control over our government policy. I will watch PSL every time irrespective of national relations. That doesn't make me lacking in self-respect or national pride. Any cricketing fan will watch good cricket.

Who cares ? Our fans are so insecure about the IPL. If you don't watch it, it doesn't make it a rubbish league.

The only one who is insecure is you, because no where on this thread it is implied that not watching = rubbish league.

I want to watch good cricket. That's all I'm interested in.

Insecure is making thread after thread about the IPL.

Ok good for you.... maybe others don't watch it for whatever reason, why label them as insecure?

Don't need to make threads about it's quality and how you don't watch it if your not bothred about it don't comment on it

Point out just one post in this thread that called IPL a rubbish league, just one would do.

If you don't watch the IPL, why do you feel the need to tell others? It's not news to any poster if a Pakistan fan doesn't watch the IPL.

The number of threads on IPL on PP probably outnumber the times a PSL related news has come on Indian Newspapers this year.

its not about government policy. I am against discrimination and IPL is clearly following a discrimination policy based on nationality and thats the only reason I am against it. If tomorrow PSL also implements a discrimination policy then I will turn against it too.

Well its a cricket forum and IPL is the only cricket going on. So why is it shocking that its being mentioned?

Well, this is a forum where people discuss things on a whole host of topics. Indian news is hardly 'news' when things like a tweet from a retired cricketer are talked about for days...

To be honest Psl was a boring affair , im a die hard Pak cricket fan but PSL, in terms of both foreign and domestic talent was below par . It may offend people here but seriously what's the talent pool of Pakistan? Talat Hussain, Agha Salman ?Such batsmen don't even get picked by Ipl franchise let alone making it to the team. Pak cricket is lagging behind by many a miles . Let's admit it , India has made great strides
Indian fast bowlers are bowling faster than Pakistani Pacers .that was unheard of . I don't watch much of IPL but whatever little I have seen of it , the quality is unmatched. Like today's match how close it was , or the one yesterday. The one with CSK , in PSL there was hardly anything exciting. I mean come on if you have kamran Akmal scoring tons there has to be something wrong with the bowling side .

Havent seen a full match since the second season, so basically 10 years and every time I try to watch the buttery, creamy, brown licking commentary makes me switch off.

Have only checked the scores few times and watched a couple of bowls.

Who are you to decide on what topic a thread will be made on?

The thread was to guage the level of interest for the IPL within the Pakistani cricket fans. I don't know why your knickers are getting in a twist.

I couldn’t care less about IPL. for that matter I don’t care too much for any other t20 league but I will watch an occasional match as it has some Pak players. This has got nothing to do with India or Pakistan relations but I’m a PAK cricket fan and love to see how our players perform. In England I also hardly watch a series between England and any other. I’ve been following cricket since around 1987 and the international players currently just have no charisma. I could watch warne McGrath Walsh ambrose even Indian stars of the past but honestly now it’s just a load of cheap thrills and characterless people going about their business.

Sometimes I’m a little confused myself..am I Pak cricket fan or a fan of how the country expresses itself through cricket. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m actually the latter so it means little weather the new pak players have anything to cheer about or not. The fact that Pakistani players and pak cricket evolves with its little twists and quirks is enough to keep me glued to the box.

Just an example of how good IPL marketing machine is. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. People are talking if and why they don't watch it. Interesting.

Well this is a cricket forum and seeing that there is no cricket relating Pakistan going on at the moment (or other worthwhile cricket)it is only logical that there be threads re the IPL. Or would you rather we make more threads about assurance letters from UAE princes?

I am suffering from a terrible bout of ennui without cricket. Withdrawal symptoms some might say. Haven't seen a ball bowled in an IPL match since circa 2010. Have no real interest in watching Chennai Hump Wagons vs Kolkata Root Merchants. That is not to say I am much enamoured with the PSL or franchise cricket in general either. However, I positively detest these two months of the year as these clowns have managed to successfully monopolize the whole blasted calendar.

whatever 7min highlights are available on ipl website, i just want to watch cricket no matter what not a big fan of ipl.

I'm too busy to watch any cricket. Watched some of PSL to get an idea of new players. Have zero interest in IPL.

Good post but it may not liked by many.

Lol, I didn't even have the time to watch PSL properly and on most occasions, I would just tune some highlights package or just check the score in the morning. That of course is if the games were on weekdays, during weekends I would try my level best to watch at least 1 innings (which I almost kind of did - occasionaly :P)

Oh on topic: Haven't watched IPL since season 1 and don't intend to waste my time on a domestic league that isn't even Pakistani - The only time I tune into cricket is when Pakistan are playing internationals, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, One Day Cup, Domestic T20s, PSL, Ashes and any Test series between AUS/ENG/SA/NZ + A few games for Big Bash here and there. With a full time day job and my own small business that's more than enough cricket for me in one calendar year to keep me entertained so I don't bother watching anything else.

All T20 leagues are getting pretty boring to watch to be honest. Bowlers getting tonked for six after six is painful to watch.

I see one common theme among all these guys who have not seen IPL this season. They all have admitted that they watched first season, they want to convey that they don't mind watching IPL again if Pak players are included again. Sorry guys none of the indian fans here have authority to include your boys in our league. Better luck next time.

Question to all Pakistani cricket lovers

Do you guys get bored during IPL when no international cricket is going on? Do you guys wish Pakistani players were part of it?

When PSL was on, i did tried to catch game or two when there was no other game going on. But when Nidahas trophy started I found something to watch. But for Pakistani fans there is no cricket until May when Pakistan tours Ireland and England.

yet you feel the need to make a thread about it

So far I usually watch IPL sometimes on Saturday evening before dinner time when Im home and if theres no exciting Premier League game going on. And sometimes the last couple of overs on weeknights before going to bed/watching a TV show.

Its ok timepass but certainly nothing I follow game by game or know which team stands where etc

However dont feel the need to degrade it ever!

Can't say about other posters so I'll answer this according to how I follow the game.

Basically I have a set cricket calendar that I follow and I hardly ever deviate from it which naturally means that IPL misses out:

Pakistan International Matches (Any format)
Quad e Azam Trophy
One day Cup
Test series between Aus/SA/Eng/Nz (only when they're playing each other)
PSL (Occasionally)
Big Bash (A few games here and there)

As I stated in another post that is more than enough cricket for me in a calendar year to get me engaged without the need for me in compromising my work/business commitments.

As far as our players participating or not concerns, I don't exactly think Pakistanis in general mind that TBH, #1 ranked team in the format and almost winning most T20s internationally makes it non relevant (personally speaking)

Also, our players feature in CPL too but you'd hardly see anyone talk about it because it has no implication on our cricket.

For what it's worth and in all seriousness IPL is a very good tournament that provides value for entertainment and is contextual for Indians (since it's their league) but to expect the same kind of Enthusiasm from (a) for most bitter rivals historically and (b) people who are not participating in that particular event (for whatever XYZ reason) is just being unrealistic IMHO

I wonder if no one is watching the game then how come so many threads about for e.g. how PSL bowling is better than IPL etc he he

Where did you even get that from whatever I wrote?? :danish and in case you missed it I'll quote the FIRST LINE from my response again!

Saw honest sensible post about IPL after long time here... Kudos :salute :ds

Except India all other major teams international matches you follow ... interesting :19:

Agree with you, don't know about other posters in PP.

My GUESS is majority of Pak based cricket fans opinion about IPL will match yours.. I may be wrong, just gut feeling :19:

Not watched since IPL1 but am sure my viewership along with another 100m Pakistan cricket followers who don’t like the fact no Pak players are in ipl won’t make a difference.. op I know somewhere thori jalti hai 🔥

I think I m one of the biggest supporters of team INDIA here. But even I haven't watched a single delivery of this years IPL till now.

IMHO, the popularity of IPL is going downwards.

I too not watched much of IPL this week due to client visit, can't say IPL popularity has reduced... Can't conclude on individual basis, better metric to gauge value of any product is market value and %increase in value compared to earlier period.

Along with Market value, actual fans turnout to matches also is the other metric to be looked at IMO :19:

It almost seems a thread desperate to prove that Pakistanis take no interest in IPL yet are interested in PSL.

But why?

I am interested in my kid, but not interested in my neighbors kid.

I feel ashamed reading this thread as a Pakistani and a cricket lover.

There is so much unnecessary bitterness from both sides towards a game both nations love.

It doesn't take a genius to figure which league between IPL and PSL is a bigger league.

However, PSL has done fantastic in the 3 years of its creation. You cannot compare the two. You should not compare the two. You should just enjoy the abundance of talent and entertainment both leagues provide (if you call yourself a true cricket lover).

Being in North America, it is difficult to catch all the PSL IPL games. But whenever I get a chance, I do enjoy watching the highlights package and read all columns on Cricinfo and Pakpassion to stay updated.

Lets just not be bitter and just be thankful that we have both of these leagues coexisting atm

Not sure. The way the broadcasters and sponsors are investing their $$, they seem to think its going the other way. And as they say, follow the $$!

Forget IPL i dont watch most cricket matches due to time difference in Vancouver

Catch the highlights as the timings don't match otherwise. Might have night-time live matches going on in one of my work screens sometimes.

I do follow the IPL closely though; it's very competitive and high-quality franchise cricket. Cricket is kinda like a drug for me; even watched most of the world cup qualifiers to put things in perspective! Considering that the IPL has it's own calendar, that's the only cricket on right now.

Follow the PSL to the same level too, but that's more out of cultural attachment and pride, that the raw quality/excitement of the games. Somehow the Big Bash has never caught my fancy or any other league.

I has ineterest in Watching IPL game but after PSL my inrest has gone down which i cant say why??may be too much t20 cricket.

I've not followed it at all. Not check the scores, teams or watched it.

Why? Not because it's an Indian league but purely because I nothing has caught my attention or given me a reason to watch it.

If there were Pakistani Players then yes it would give me a reason to watch it. As they have that flare and they won the first IPL which attracted my attention. I don't think BCCI realise the impact they would make by adding Pakistani Players to the league, massive oppurtunity to make extra money.

Does not make much difference whether you watched it or not. But then why take the trouble to open a thread about it ? Even I have not seen a single ball of any other T20 leagues other than IPL, which includes PSL, but that does not make any difference either.

Kamran Akmal was batting pretty well in the PSL. Just for a comparison, the other guy who batted well (Watson) is scoring fairly well in the IPL too. The only bowlers who are doing well here are the ones who are excellent at mixing up their pace and lengths. Hence the bravos do so well here. I wouldn't be surprised if guys like Hasan Ali or Rumman Raees would do decent here as well.

As far as the thread topic goes, due to the timings, and to an extent the length of the tournament, I barely watched any PSL matches live. But I did watch all of their highlights whenever I could find the time.

With the IPL being even longer, and naturally piquing my interest less so than the PSL, I'm unlikely to watch most games live, but I'll try to catch some highlights as they're fairly short on Hotstar.

One good thing about PP, getting lot more IPL updates here than all the channels Star is broadcasting honestly :19:

Barely watched IPL after the 2008 edition. Was flicking channels today and ended getting a sneak peak. The quality is very poor, players lack passion and seem like there are playing only for the money unlike in PSL.

This constant need to bash IPL is just sad to see.

Agreed. Lay off IPL people! it doesn't make an iota of a difference whether you watch or not.

I am very sure millions of Pakistanis are watching these games off and on. it's cricket!!!

I, to be honest, tried to catch the first game in Dubai - but they have moved it from OSN to Bein which meant paying money. And I wont even do that for PSL - but will gladly pay for the Pakistan-England series if I have to.

I only watch RCB game. Not that I expect them to win any more but just for entertainment sake.

It is irrelevant for me if RCB wins or not. They are not playing for the country but I watch because no team comes close in terms of entertainment provided by this team.

I sometimes follow cricinfo for other matches.

Ur sarcastic remark won't change the fact that IPL is losing its popularity. Its getting boring. :))

Tbh I don't think so.IPL 2017 was boring for most part but this year IPL has been good so far.New commentators like Nasser Hussain,Vaughan, slater etc has also helped.

You do know that for every one person who looses interest in cricket especially ipl there are at least 5 new younger fans and at least 2 newly retired persons for whom ipl is a 2 month time pass for retired time...

.so if assumption of popularity is based on your interest level.....

You know what I mean

IPL made internet history by reaching 5.5M concurrent viewers in match 5. To put the 5.5M concurrent viewers of IPL in perspective, most live-streamed Superbowl game peaked at 3.1M concurrent streams

These are the numbers just over web through official streams and doesn't account for TV viewers.

2.5 billion dollars for 5 years tv rights prove otherwise.
