[November 2017] Steve Smith reaches 941 points in best-ever Test ratings [Update Post #101]

May be Kohli is the King for you not for me. I have gave my reasons many times why I don't rate him as a test batsman but you guys as usual have no answers.

In last match only if kohli had not scored 100, we wud have lost that match. kohli averages 50 plus anywhere in the world except england . He will score tgere as well.
kohli scored in australia , new zealand, south africa . we wud have won many matches abroad. if our bowlers cud take 20 wikets. test mattches are won by bowlers. And test matches get draw by batsman. which only kohli can do
Anyway kohli is tge one of the best batsman in the world in all formats and tge caption of indian cricket team which is n.o 1 in tge world by quite a long margin for some time.

I have repeated in number of threads why I dont rate Kohli the test batsman. I would take Pujara, Kane, Root over him. Once he starts winning matches or atleast make a significant contribution in (semi) difficult situations than I will be the first one to praise him. Right now he hasnt done anything impactful in his 60+ test matches. Found missing in 2 of the toughest series India had recently (vs Aus at home and vs SL in SL 2015) Most of his scores are on dead rubbers, flat pitches or when the difficult work is done by others.

Why were they the toughest series? Because Kohli didn't score.

Both series were decided in the decider and India won 2-1. For any reasonable person those were the 2 toughest series.

Against SL Pujara saved India and against Aus rahane's briliant captaincy brough India bak to match.

He was the top scorer for India in that series which they won. But I guess his runs don't count.

India had something like a lead of 100+ with only 1 wicket down on start of 5th day. Dhawan scored 84 and Rahane a 70+. Even if Kohli had scored a 20 in that innings instead of 100 India would have a lead of 170 which would have been too much for SL.

Secondly due to Kohli going for his century India declared too late and couldn't win the match. The only needed 3 more overs to take those 3 wickets. SL were 75 for 7 with only taileneders left and Indian bowling in full flow. Dont tell me India would not have won the match if they had bowled 3-5 overs more.

Lastly you guys should really start appreciating your actual performers. There is more to Indian cricket than Kohli.

Lol. The series was decided in the third test match where he goes missing as usual.

In the 2 matches India won, his cores were: 78 and 10 (2nd test) and 18 and 21 (3rd test). In third test Pujara scored a 145* due to which India won the series. Kohli failed in difficult conditions of 3rd test match. In second test where he scored 78 in first innings these were the scores of his teammates: Rahul (108), Sharma (79), and Saha (56). Hardly difficult conditions.

They were the toughest series for sure. What I'm saying is that they were the toughest series because Kohli didn't score as much. Whenever Kohli does score, it makes it a lot easier for India to win.

Because Kohli mostly scores when his other teammates also score :) ---> Hardly difficult conditions and tough bowling.

Anyways you guys take Kohli too seriously and I should end the discussion here. I have explained my reasons in above posts which make sense logically. This is only about test matches, in odis he is the best batsman for me in last 15 years.

Guy is pretty much invincible at the moment and can lead a side quite successfully too. If he can improve his leg-spin a bit more, he'll go down as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, not just one of the best batsmen.

I think Smith and Kohli are great batsmen . Currently Smith is ahead by some distance . But that does not mean Kohli can be bashed.

You can take a look at Kohli's innings against England in the Mumbai test last year . India were in trouble and where he took them. And no , it was not flat wicket .

Looks like he will finish amongst Bradman and Tendulkar in the ATG category.

Fun fact : 19 of 21 centuries by Smith have come in first innings of a test.

Looks like he will finish amongst Bradman and Tendulkar in the ATG category.
And Kohli will surpass Tendulkar in ODIs Hitman

Comparing likes of Kohli to him is an insult. Kohli is a nothing test batsman in comparison to Smith and hasn't done anything substantial in 60 test matches with 0 crucial and match winning inings. In that sense Smith is really underrated. How can someone with knowledge of game can compare Smith and Kohli? Just becaus eKohliis excellent in lois? Baffles me.

Also he is far ahead of the next 3 best batsman currently i-e Kane, Pujara and Root.

Smith should be compared to greatest of all time test batsmen.

How you rate Kohli in tests it's up to you but to call him a nothing batsmen in tests is pathetic.

He averages 54 in matches won with 4 man of the match performances and 1 man of the series. If you think that is no impact then I can't help you any further.

On topic. Smith is an absolutely brilliant test player. Another 2 or 2 years of this and he will be up there with the best test batsmen. He's what Kohli is on ODIs. Unstoppable when he gets going.

Forget it. It's nothing but insecurity. The same happened when Sachin was playing with a lot of fans trying to rationalize Inzamam being better :))
