Just randomly checked and found India has overtaken Pakistan in win%. Interesting developments considering when i first saw this list many many years ago, West Indies and Pakistan both had a healthier win% than India. I think early in 2000s our Win% was below 50%. India really started winning a lot more in ODIs since Dhoni took over the reigns. Kohli and Rohit Sharma have only taken it further and ensured the win% got healthier and healthier.

I wonder if we can narrow the gap with the Aussies and South Africans in another decade? Let’s bump this thread in 2032 :-)

Among major nations this is the situation right now :-

1. South Africa - 63.41%
2. Australia - 63.39%
3. India - 55.14%
4. Pakistan - 54.25%
5. England - 52.96%
6. West Indies - 50.48%

New Zealand is lurking at 49%
West Indies despite the disaster plus few decades has still managed a win% above 50% which is mostly thanks to their dominance in the 70s and 80s

I think Pakistan used to have a win% of close to 60% or at least 57-58%

South Africa are the most successful ODI bilateral team.

Order overall including World Cups :

1. Australia
2. India
3. West Indies
4. South Africa
5. Pakistan
6. England
7. Sri Lanka ( what are the stats for SL)
8. New Zealand

Southafrica's win percentage is mind blowing. 63%. Mainly because they were strong team in 90's. Some of the names Hansie cronje,Donald, kaalis, klusner,Gary christen, Harschele Gibbs, Darry cullianan.Pollack,Pat Symcox .Quite strong team.

Can we check the results with only test playing nations minus Ban, AFG, Zim and Irl. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have been good teams only for a short period. Wonder if that changes anything?

Most successful team is Australia (regardless of what statistics says).

Australia have won the ODI World title 5 times. They also have a very good success rate in bilateral ODIs.

South Africa were an incredible odi side in the late 90s.
There only icc trophy came in that era too.
Another crazy fact, they have never lost an odi series in pak/uae

Australia will be the most successful test and ODI side for eternity.

Very difficult to reach the standards of Australia but I think with how India is growing in the cricketing world they are the ones who can beat their record.

Australia is a 3 department team. Asian teams are mostly 2 department team. Australia will always beat most teams in the 3rd department which help them pull off miracles. Until Asian teams vastly improve their fielding they will be well behind Australia.

Crazy to see south africa at the top with only one CT to show for it. Have never been able to shake the chokers tag

If I had to take Overall success, then I would go with South Africa or India but in terms of stepping up at an important time like any ICC tournament, then Australia is the one you would fancy and want to be like them.

Very difficult for Sub continent teams to get better in fielding department.
