If anyone is wondering about Mohammad Amir's inclusion - he is there because he took out the top 3 in my world XI in a CT final. His stats may not back it up since his return, but his performance in big games is up there with the best.

Swap Amir with any trundler in that match, Pakistan could have still won the game easily.

Might switch Taylor to KW if in need of someone who can roll their arm for couple of overs.

It was an extremely flat pitch. We won easily because India's batting is horrible after their world class Top 3. It is rare when you see them all fail in the same match. For one bowler to take them out with fantastic deliveries is a match winning performance in an ICC final. A trundler would've been taken to school on that pitch.

1. Fakhar Zaman

6.Jos Buttler
7. Hardik Pandya
8. Hasan Ali
9. Adil Rashid
10. Mohammad Amir
11. Mitchell Starc

This may not be statistically the best XI but I think this team has a good mix and is filled with match winners who can take the game away at any moment.

Tahir is a gone case. India treated him like a club bowler on the last series. Replace him with Kuldeep or even Shadab.

I know its your list and your taste but just curious why you didn't apply the same criteria to Starc? He won the WC to AUS pretty much single handedly..

1) Shikhar Dhawan
2) Babar Azam
3) Virat Kohli (C)
4) Ross Taylor
5) A B deVilliers
6) Jose Butler
7) Ben Stokes

Form is temporary. Class is permanent.

India have never been troubled by leg spin.

Looks brilliant but i feel onky problem is when one bowler has an off day.Except from 4 frontline bowlers + stokes there is hardly anyone who can bowl more than 2 overs.

But with batting solid upto no. 9 they may still chase it down or score big enough to defend the target

Fakhar is a good part time option. Could easily bowl 3-4 overs.

Bumrah’s role in that team is to bowl 0-35 or 1-35 spells.

Amir over Bumrah how could you :broad:
Lol at Bumrah. The guy is a nobody compared to Amir, Boult, etc. He's barely a top 10 fast bowler in ODIs.

In T20s though he's right up there with Amir as the best.

“The guy” is number 1 ODI bowler :)))

Rashid Khan is #2. Aksar Patel is #14.

What kind of joke are these rankings?

Amir and Starc are not even Top 20

Bumrah is the best bowler in the world, just like Babar is the best batsman in the world in T20.

This is the best team I could come up with.

Tahir cannot bat at all plus he is 35+ and now he was not picked for many matches against India in ODIs

India are top players of spin there's no shame in being thrashed by them.

So what about his age ? He's still performing? Shadab after 1 of international cricket hasn't performed Tahir. He may do so 1 day but as of now he hasn't.

Shadab in ODIs has 9 wickets in 9 matches at the average of 42 against top teams. Hugely overrated here.

I'm going by proven performances here:

Shikhar Dhawan 45.90
Jos Buttler 38.05 / Johny Bairstow 48.36
Virat Kohli 58.10
Joe Root 51.16
AB De Villiers 53.50
Shakid Al Hasan 34.97/B29.46
Ben Stokes 35.82/B38.01
Rashid Khan 14.40
Mitchell Starc 20.95
Jasprit Bumrah 22.50
Hasan Ali 21.40

Super pleased with this team. 5 ace batsman up top, two of the best all-rounders going (Shakib, Stokes) who could get in as batsman alone, add in Rashid and Starc who can both bat a lot.

Starc to open the bowling, Hasan to bowl in the middle and Bumrah to bowl in the death. Add in Rashid to attack with Spin and Shakib to strangle. Finally an added bowling option from Stokes as well if needed.

Unlucky to Miss out:
Warner thanks to the suspension.
Rohit cause there could potentially hypothetically exist some movement.
Babar cause his record doesn't stand up against Kohli, Root, ABD.
Kuldeep/Chahal cause Rashid has been a phenom. (Though relatively unproven at the top level still)

Love to hear what people think. It's a good reflection of where teams stand as well in ODI's right now
IND: 3
ENG: 3
AUS, SA, BAN, PAK, AFG: 1

But who will play with them. Lets pick Top 24 players (including 12th man)

Lets have a match :kohli

This is the best XI I've seen so far in this thread. I noticed it's quite similar to mine and probably more balanced as well. If I had to choose between Bairstow and Buttler, I'd go with Bairstow for sure!

Can't get better than this. :babar

No one called him Shane Warne or anything either. He’s 19 and leggies take time to mature.

Exactly. But you get people on here trying to force him into a world 11. He just started international cricket. He doesn't make a world 11 yet.

Isn't that overrating? He is currently rated more than he deserves to be.

Absolutely right, the match was won because of Pakistan's willpower in that series (their batting on big finals) and India's shambolic position in that series (coach issues! Same was the case during South Africa test series which was selection issues)

What no Sami? No Kamran Akmal? No Samit Patel?

All current players.

What kind of XIs are being posted here - no merit at all.

What would your ODI World XI be currently?

Going off of recent performances, a span of maybe 12 months or so -

Dhawan
Zaman
Babar
Kohli
Root
QDK
Stokes
Shadab
Plunkett
Hasan
Boult

Williamson unlucky to miss out.

If I was to pick an XI of the best players currently active, taking into account entire careers then -

1. Warner
2. Amla
3. Kohli
4. Williamson c
5. Root
6. ABD
7. QDK wk
8. Stokes
9. Starc
10. Boult
11. Tahir

Those who couldn’t make it to XI before

Quinton De Kock (wk)
Alex Hales
Joe Root (c)
R Taylor
G Maxwell
Shakib Hasan
Moeen Ali
C Woakes
B Kumar
M Amir
Mark Wood
12th: Josh Hazlewood

B Kumar is terrible in ODIs. He's not even the best ODI pacer in India. Bumrah and Yadav are much better than him.
