KARACHI: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has revealed the discovery of oil and gas reservoir in district Sanghar of Sindh province.

According to OGDCL statement, the oil and gas reservoir was discovered in Pandhi area of Sanghar.

The statement said, “the joint venture of Bitrism Block comprising of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) as operator (95 percent) and Government Holdings (Pvt) Limited (5 Percent carried) has discovered oil and gas from its exploratory well Pandhi # 01, which is located in district Sanghar, Sindh province.”

The structure of Pandhi # 01 was delineated, drilled and tested using OGDCL’s in house expertise. The well was drilled down to the depth of 3600 meters. The well has tested 9.12 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas and 520 barrels per day of oil through choke at Wellhead flowing pressure of 840 Pounds per square inch (Psi) from Lower Goru (Basal Sand) Formation.

Are the numbers for just the one well that they dug? If so, what can they be extrapolated to?

It’s negligible.

Nothing to be excited about.

By the time Pakistan unearths a significant amount of oil or gas, the whole world will have probably gone electric.

Electric vehicles will not over take subcontinent at least for another 2 decades. Only the West will be driving EV's.

In SC , cooking gas is also required, so no its not going anywhere.. people don’t use induction there and rightly so, pathetic way to cook , only good for boiling water.

How come we in India never get to see such news?

pakistanis equate arab wealth and oil and get excited by such news, gets views for news channels, indian news pbly has lots of other stuff to distract people with.

in real terms pak or indias population are too big for any oil/gas field discovery to have a material impact on the average citizen.

i may be misinformed but i read a news article that stated a combined flow of about 300 barrels per day from both fields, which is pretty much nothing (110,000 barrels a year)

Yeah, makes sense. I remember when fracking reserves in North East got me excited only to realize how dangerous fracking can be.

it is dangerous, but most issue can be mitigated if its done away from large population centres and water tables are monitored. the main issue currently is cost, it doesn't make economic sense until extraction costs are brought down in line with moderate difficulty oil extraction, i.e. around 20, 25 dollars a barrel equivalent.

when that happens itll bring significant benefits for pakistan and to a lesser extent india, both countries have significant shale reserves (altho pakistans are supposedly technically difficult to recover, and india's are highly speculative), or had, according to research i last checked some time ago.
