It was the first match of the Asian Test Championship in 2001 as Bangladesh batted first and made 134 with Danish Kaneria taking six wickets.

In reply, six Pakistani batsmen batted and five of them made hundreds with Faisal Iqbal the only one to miss out, making 9. Saeed Anwar made 101 and Taufeeq Anwar made 104 before being dismissed. Inzamam-ul-Haq made 105 before retiring hurt while Yousuf (Youhana at the time) made 102* and Abdul Razzaq a quick-fire 110* as Pakistan declared at 546/3.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 148 in the second innings with Danish Kaneria taking another six wickets as Pakistan comfortably won by an innings and 264 runs.
