What's new

On This Day: January 29, 2006 - Kamran Akmal scores a hundred to save Pakistan against India at NSK

You wouldn’t understand if you starting watching cricket in t20 era.

I watched that match live. So please do explain instead of a patronising (and grammatically incorrect) comment because you can’t back up your opinion.

And a Pakistani great with an average in the 20s after hundreds of matches... don’t make me laugh. I would be interested if anyone could name a worst batsman who has played for Pakistan as consistently as he has.

...and let’s not even mention his keeping.

Whether you hate him or love him, one cannot argue that this was one of the greatest test hundreds produced by a Pakistani batsman.

Well actually its the kami ******* who can never justify their biased opinions. I have always argued that this was the most overrated test innings in Pakistans cricket history.

A brilliant performance no doubt, particularly due to the opponents and match situation, but it was not some amazing display of batsmanship as everyone claims.

Played on an absolute road of a pitch where batting became ridiculously easy after a tricky new ball phase. Kami was lucky to come out when the ball was older and was given ample support by Razzaq and Akhtar (who by the way scored more than Yusuf, Younis, Laxman, Dravid, Sehwag, Teldulker combined in the first innings).

Kami cost us 2 test wins, 2 outright test series wins, this one and the 2005 Mohali rearguard with Razzaq.

Legendary knock, many ATG batsmen don't have a 100 of such quality in their resume.

One of the greatest test innings I have ever seen. The same people who are gushing over Ben Stokes ashes performance are the ones talking negative on Kamrans performance.

Fact of the matter is he took infinite pressure and produced diamond.

You're comparing this innings against Stokes' ashes performance? Completely laughable.

Why not? If anything stokes got lucky because of poor umpiring. Ashes may have longer history but theirs more eyes on Pakistan India clashes

excellent inns in circumstances, pitch at the time and also the pressure of the series. Series will remain in the memory.

139 from Faisal iqbal.

Those magnificent In dippers from asif to remove laxman twice and sehwag.

Good game.

The first two Tests of that series were absolutely disgusting thanks to the PCB farmers, sorry "curators", who claimed the winter weather prevented them from producing decent pitches.

However this Test was a classic and Kamran Akmal's finest outing in international cricket.

Man, what a test match this was. Akmal hundred in the first innings + 45s from Razzaq and Shoaib taking Pakistan from 39-6 to 245. Asif and Razzaq being amongst the wickets in India's first innings. Everyone from Salman Butt to Abdul Razzaq scoring 50+ with Faisal Iqbal scoring 139, setting India a massive target of 607. And then Asif and Razzaq being amongst the wickets again to bundle India out with Asif showing off his cart-wheeling skills, if you know what I mean :asif Minus Kaneria, everyone turned up in this test match.

I'm kinda stating the obvious here and getting a bit too excited here typing this, but this test I'd say, personally, is my favourite Pakistan test match. Great memories!

What a great period it was for Pakistan cricket. That Woolmer team for a 3 year period really became a formidable force. Ironically I was in Pakistan during this time for my wedding so it certainly holds a special place in my memory, I vividly remember Pathan getting the hat trick and thinking my god what is happening. The way Kami batted and then let’s not forget Asif’s performance as well, it was a helluva test match.

Fluke innings. Kamran never being able to replicate the same performance in numerous outings proves this was just his lucky day.

Well for the luck to be on your side, you need to be an honest professional which he clearly wasnt. Sydney test is a prime example.

That was a brilliant century. I still remember the game.

Great century and a great game.

One of the best innings ever played in Pakistan!

Definitely the most overrated innings in the history of Pakistan cricket.

This was a pitch where the ball swung for around 10-15 overs then it became an absolute pancake. That’s why the ATG top order batsmen failed while the likes of Akhtar, Kami etc plundered runs.

And on the same Road Legendary Indian batsman failed not once but twice. Now come up with another excuse man. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Yes, the likes of Faisal Iqbal and Yuvraj Singh smashed centuries down the order while the top order batsman like Tendulker, Laxman, Dravid, Sehwag failed because those batsman are way better and it had nothing to do with the pitch/ new ball.
