Former Pakistan prime minister Mohammad Khan Junejo has died of a heart attack in the US. He was 61. Junejo had been in the US for treatment of suspected leukaemia at a hospital in Baltimore.
He died of a heart attack in hospital. “We announce with regret that former prime minister of Pakistan Mohammed Khan Junejo has died,” Radio Pakistan said. “Efforts are being made to bring his body back to Pakistan.” Junejo was a member of the National Assembly but held no other office.
Born in August 1932, he served as a martial law prime minister from 1985 to 1988 when he was dismissed by the late military president General Mohammad Ziaul-Haq after the former tried to assert his authority. Junejo was a graceful and reserved man.
