Here we go again.

Wasn't he went to hospital for the same back in T20 WC recently, so it might be a genuine back problem, No?

Happy Birthday, best of luck for the Asia Cup and this summer! We're counting on you.

On This Day May 26, 1990: Umar Akmal was born

Umar Akmal turns 23 today.

While he is often criticised for throwing away his wicket and the lack of temperament in the way he approaches his game, Umar Akmal is a great talent who has a lot of potential to offer. It is unfortunate that at times he does not do justice to his very own talent when he plays careless shots and gives his wicket away.

Umar Akmal made his debut in international cricket in 2009. In particular, his test debut, a format he has often been overlooked for, was the most memorable. On his test debut (against NZ), Umar Akmal scored a century, making 129 runs in only 160 ball. 96 of those runs were in boundaries (21 fours and 2 sixes). It was an innings in which he counterattacked and played with aggression after Pakistan were left reeling at 85/5 in response to New Zealand's 1st innings score of 429.

Highlights of that innings on debut:

Focusing on the present, Umar Akmal's overall form has been a bit of a
worry and it therefore comes as no surprise that he wasn't selected for the Champions Trophy. However, here's hoping that Umar Akmal take this as a motivation to improve his game, works out his flaws, and comes back as a better cricketer.

Quoting Dav Whatmore's message for Umar Akmal:

“My message for Umar [Akmal] is that he needs to go back and work extremely hard in domestic cricket and make plenty of runs, because his ability is such that it deserves to be seen at the highest level of cricket. Unfortunately he’s not in the Champions Trophy squad but if he works hard in domestic cricket, he can make a comeback.”

Here's wishing Umar Akmal a very happy birthday and hoping for a quick return to form!

As cricket fans, what was your favorite Umar Akmal innings?

His match winning 40 odd against Australia in the wc was my favorite. He came through in a high pressure game as the middle order had a mini collapse and lee was on fire on 2 paced pitch. Yet he still managed to score at a good pace

^ Thanks for sharing. That's a good example of him being able to cope with pressure.

As a cricket fan what I enjoy most about Umar Akmal's batting style is that he is busy at the crease and keeps the scorecard ticking right from the start - something most of our batsmen struggle with.

In fact, Umar Akmal is sometimes 'too busy' for my liking and ends up giving away his wicket.

Umar always leaves us hungry midway through his innings ...every time he gets out it leaves a bad taste ....When he bats , he looks entertaining to watch but because of sublime shot making ability or daring approach goes off the script some times.....

He is a pure entertainer with the bat and a good fielder too, In ODI cricket , after Saeed Anwar he looks the most pleasing batsman on the eye from Pakistan

Still, I believe although he did make some mistakes but the people who were supposed to manage or help him also did not do any good with their job...

And that theorem that he can not handle pressure is a nonsense , he has performed in big matches , in big tournaments and in crunch situations .. Some times he failed and some times succeeded while playing in pressure situation.....A number 6 batsman in ODI cricket, is always under pressure because of match situation...

He was struggling mentally after South Africa tour , so he needed to rest and reassess himself .....but domestic season is still at least 4 months away for him to regain his form .:(

What must be remembered is that he's only 23. Long long time to go in his career yet, he's going to be a 100 Test veteran for Pakistan by the end of his career iA.

Happy Birthday Umar Akmal!

The youngster turns 23 today. 1,003 runs in test cricket with an average of 35.82, and 2001 runs at an average of 37.75 in ODI cricket. But still, he seems to be out of favour and he's not finding a place in Pakistan test or ODI team.

Anyways, happy birthday to him! May Allah bless him with a long life - Ameen!

Ameen. Still can't fathom why the other Umar was selected ahead of him.

i wonder what he was feeling when he saw Shafiq brainfart his wicket away

I'd like to know first what he felt when Shafiq scored 84 at a great strike rate in the last game and his feelings on the way Shafiq embarrassingly outperformed him in domestic cricket when both were out of favor with the selectors when it comes to the ODI team.

Shafiq took his chance and did very well; Umar bottled under the pressure of being dropped and couldn't buy a run.

Deserves to stay home for a while.

Shafiq is considered to have a stable head which is a false perception

He has a stable head and knows his limitations + respects the bowler which is very important.

Unlike Umar who keeps pretending he is Kohli and thinks he'd get away with anything.

Shafiq has played half the matches Umar has played at international level and yet he is continuously improving as a player.

Unlike Umar who keeps regressing.

Shafiq of 2010 < Shafiq of today.

Umar of 2010 > Umar of today.

on his latest birthday he has been diagnosed with airhead syndrome but make no mistake he will always be a great natural talent, once in a generation player & saviour of Pakistan cricket۔۔

So disappointing, the way his career panned out.But it is his own fault, cannot blame anybody else.

He's past now, kept PP alive and interesting during dry and dull times.. My favourite Pakistani cricketer for non cricketing reasons, very entertaining.

Happy birthday

If u watch that video of his debut innings hes unrecognisable from the player he is now

Back then he played proper attacking strokes cover drives, cuts and pulls all along the ground

Coincidentally the shot he got out to is the type of shot that ruined his career and is the one we associate with him now so it looks like he always had that gene in him and slowly it overtook him Anyways

Happy Birthday

Doesn’t fit into mickey arthurs plans
Should try and aim for the t20 wc next year by putting in stellar performances and keeping himself away from night clubs

Like him or dislike him, he will be back for Pakistan in LOIs after the retirements of Hafeez and Malik. I also think Haris Sohail does not have much more cricket in him because he's injury prone. Umar will have a lot to offer Pakistan cricket after this WC.

Happy birthday to him! I also hope his cousin Babar Azam has had a chance to wish him a blessed day and made use of interaction to gain tips from Umar on how to increase his SR.

Happy birthday to my face cricketer of all time.

Shame he was bred into the Pakistan side. Any other nation and he would of been a batsman averaging mid 40’s with a Sr of 90. Batting st 4.

Not a guy who’s forced to bat at 6/8 and slog and make up for all the crap ball
Blockers and selfish players.

If babar has any sense he ll stay away from any advice junior has to give to him

Babar is doing fine and his strike rate will get better the more he plays

The last thing a potential great like babar needs is advice from a slogger

30 today - international career almost over.

30 today - international career almost over.

Sadly, what a letdown he has been. One thing after another during his career despite getting many chances.

Everyone makes mistakes, but not as many as him.

What could have been......
