"We don't have a PR company. We don't post our stats on social media. If Umar's stats were part of the 15 players in Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad, it would have created a huge uproar by now."

People can hate UA, infact we need to move on from him, but it doesn't change the fact that when he was playing for the team he was better then what we have now in the form of chacha, Shadab and azam

He doesn't have more runs and has a very slightly higher SR.

Nobody asked Umar Akmal to gain weight, lose form, become a parody of himself and a figure of ridicule.

If he was that good someone somewhere would have given him a chance given how much franchise cricket is being played worldwide.

Most Pakistan players have inflated egos that is the reason that causes their downfall.

His problem was the same like we've seen with many before him, currently and the ones coming into the game.

One knock and they think they're the next Bradman.

No desire or hunger to keep performing and improving themselves because they think they're the best player that stepped onto the planet ever with just 1 knock.

Basit & Akmal sit on the show with propagandas one wants to be Pak coach with high salary (keeps mentioning Kirsten’s salary) the other wants to get his brother in the team.

technically speaking especially when he started his career: he is way more compact than Asif Ali, Azam Khan or bits and pieces Pak side seems to be trying. Shame he never worked on his defense. How old is he now? Isn’t he Virat/ Rohit’s age and here we are discussing their retirement

The only person in the world who wholeheartedly defends a guy that hasn’t hit a single six in 200+ balls they have faced in World Cup powerplays is Tanveer Ahmed….

What does this say about Tanveer’s credibility?

Umar Akmal.

What a beast.

Need exactly his type of players in Pak T20 team now.

You can compare anyone with anybody using a couple of matches but the real thing is longevity and consistency and for that, Virat has nobody close to him from 1000 miles.

Umar may have been a beast but he was not consistent and has other stuff that he prioritized instead of cricket.

K AKmal spitting fax!

Lmaoo, Umar Akmal having scored mores runs than Virat? This has to be the most hilarious thing i have ever heard of.

Lmaoooo funnier than Ravindra Jadeja averaging 10 runs higher Inzamam with a SR of 107 vs Inzi's 75? :lol

Kahaan se generate kiye yeh stats? After 3 consecutive failures in minefield of New york, Virat's SR has fallen below Umar Akmal's SR finally HAHA

Whatever his failings and I have been a huge critic of Umar Akmal in the past, but the boy could play.

And compared to the absolute trash we have in the team right now - I’d take him in the team in a heartbeat.

Peak Umar yeah.

But the Umar of the last 5-6 years?

Nah man.

Have you seen him recently? It would be difficult to describe him as a professional cricketer. He can't even buy a run in low level cricket tournaments. It would probably be better for him, if his brother would stop bringing attention to him with ridiculous statements.

He had a good cameo in PSL, just need some confidence back.

That’s the sad thing though. Our batting including the two shooper dooper heroes babar and Rizwan are so poor, so stale, that you have to throw Umar’s hat in to the ring.

He's referring to past UA. UA from 2009-2015 is still 100x superior to chacha, Shadab, Asif, Nawaz and various other mo bats in t20 that we've had over the years.

Heck even in odi, he's still the best no 6/7 we've had in a long while.

Umar was blessed with skills, but severely deficient in the intelligence department. He possessed power, timing, range but was clueless when it came to match awareness. The number of times he's got out playing brainless shots at the cusp of victory.

Afridi influence ruined him.

NGL, I did not think Umar's numbers would be that good....even then the point Kami is making is flawed. Umar did not get dropped from T20 team because of incapability in batting but for several other much discussed reasons

Gun middle order batsman for Pakistan was Umar Akmal

He still walks into the T20 team.

Immediate upgrade over Shadab, Ifti, Imad and Nawaz.

Wouldn’t mind him if the coach/captain understands Umar’s psyche and let him enjoy freely without any stupid rules like no dancing in parties.

Had we known back then things are about to get a lot worse, would've retained UA.

Brainless UA > liability chacha anyday

In T20s, Umar Akmal till 2014/15 was better than any one, I repeat anyone in this current talented PAK team by a wide margin. I believe it’s Dhaka 2014, what he did to the Aussies batting outside power play, current PAK batsmen would struggle to match that in net session. And, he was officially like 23/24 that time. Can’t recall now, but I believe he won another WC game against SAF in 2010 ….. something nowadays his more famous cousin is doing gracefully against Ireland. On top of that, guy used to keep, not as good as a regular WK, but workable enough for T20s, where WK’s job is more like 1st baseman.

Around 9/10 years back, what one infamous poster here in PakPassion could see about where Pakistan cricket was heading; had PCB or PAK fans could see an iota of that, I am sure UAkmal would have enjoyed a much, much longer career for PCT & fame in PAK cricket media by now ….. even after drinking lot more water.

Tbf no one knew misbah would set Pakistan 20 decades back as no one knew he'd be appointed coach.

In the context of 2014, UA and Shehzad were thorns, Fakhar came and replaced shehzad, and UA was replaced by sarfraz at the time.

Sarfraz in 2014-2015 was killing it, in 2016-2017 he regressed a bit. And by 2018-2020 he was done and dusted, however as soon as sarfi came and did what he did in Australia test and odi series, UA place who was playing as a specialist keeper at the time was in question.

Fakhar in ct 2017 shut the door on shehzad.

Given the time period was 2014-2017, Pakistan did the right thing replacing ua and shehzad for Fakhar and Sarfraz.

Now the question is, sarfi is done and dusted at 37 and Fakhar is 34 nearing regression due to age.

So who replaces sarfraz and Fakhar because rizwan isn't a replacement of sarfi since rizwan refuses to be in the MO or be shuffled beyond opening.

And who can replace fakhar given Fakhar's odi exploits.

You are completely wrong bro, regarding Misbah, trust me.

It’s Misbah who kept PAK relevant in world cricket for the Test team, first as captain and later he definitely didn’t harm the team so much that it couldn’t be recovered in more than triple time by top pro coaches. Cricket is played seriously in 10-12 countries, in half of which it’s a dying game ….. with these “rented players”, USA, Canada, UAE, Holland…. may be in future Saudi Arab, Germany, Qatar will show lots of potential but reality is there will be only 4-5 winners - unfortunately PAK won’t be one of those. Yes, there will be sporadic brilliance here an there for a cricket mad country of quarter billion, with a glorious century long cricket heritage.

Coming to individuals ….. I read lots of names - Sarfraz, Fakhar, Iftekhar…… i do understand a little about who is who, but do you realise that for last few years, Umar Akmal was out of PTC ….. and PAK played WCs with Asif Ali, Moin’s boy ….. latest is that chartered guy Usman - that too at No. 3, when I started watching PTC, some Zaheer Abbas used to bat at that spot!!!! AstagfiUllah.

Misbah understands cricket more than most PAK cricket pundits & administrators, but yes making him head coach without any technical qualification was a blunder - ideally, he should have been team director with pro specialist coaches around. And, trust me I’m never a fan of Misbah, but I respect guy’s clean image, professionalism, personality & education. I do hear post match analysis at TEN sports - take out your tinted glass & focus on the content, you’ll realise who is most knowledgeable & rational.

I don't really care lol. I don't give a kahoot about narratives.

At the end of the day, sarfraz t20 side was ranked no 1. However as soon as Misbah came along he ended up causing a whitewash.

No one told him to bring shehzad and akmal back, no one told him to bring back a 37 year old irfan back, no one told him to make imam ul haq the t20 opener for one game.

No one told him to make chacha as the finisher. Chacha wasn't even a central contract player. No one knew who he was and suddenly he's a finisher for Pakistan now?

No one told him to remove fakhar and babar combo, amd replace it for a failed Mo bat of rizwan. What have babar and rizwan achieved in these past 2 years in tournaments? Their record in tournaments is utter garbage . No one cares about tours, even in tours its been poor compared to the 29 wins 2018 side.

No one told him to randomly bring Muhammad Hussain and usman qadir in the squad.

All these narratives of no one knows cricket better then he does and other stuff is irrelevant. These were his choices and his decisions.

And when questioned on these decisions, his only response was "Idk why these selections aren't working, maybe I'm asking the right handers to bat left".

The fundamental mistake in PP (regarding PAK batting) is the thought process that intent/attitude draws the ability - which has led almost an entire nation to curse Misbah …. That he has influenced a generation to “tuk tuk” mentality hence Pakistan isn’t producing 150 SR batsmen or PAK batsmen are scared of going for shots.

Completely opposite- ability leverages intent/attitude. People talk about how powerful or aggressive Viv Richards was ….. but tend to forget that he had near perfect technique, solid defence, excellent shot selection, outstanding balance backed by footwork and above all hawk like eye sight & gunslinger like reflex & unreal hand-eye coordination - these are all part of batting fundamentals. Yes, he had immense muscle power, but so had someone like Devon Malcolm…..

25 years back, a Pakistani lower order hitter was sent at 3 on a gloomy May morning at 10am start at Headingly Leeds, against two Dukes white balls …. those of us who watched regular cricket in UK actually could realise his chances of survival against an attack of McGrath, Fleming, Gillespie/Rifel (?) & Warne …. May not be that potent like the Irish attack that almost pulled down pants of PAK batsmen defending 106, but I would say quite a decent attack - and that lower order hack Abdul Razzak survived for 30+ overs on his way to a painstaking 67(?), which led to PAK scoring 108 runs in last 10…… that ability first, attitude comes from the confidence of the ability. Now, that guy A Razzak could spank a bit as well - couple of years later, same guy at Nairobi (?) took almost 67 in 3/4 overs off the same attack on a larger ground - that’s ability first, intent indeed required.

Long back at Adelaide, trailing by 89, PAK was 91/6 at like 2.5 RR and their skipper looked like a genuine tailender in middle - then a pair of Khan (Imran) & Wasim (Akram), spanked the sh!t out of the Aussie attack, backed by their fielding & umpires (I must say), for next 3 hours to put 220+ …… similar situation, replace Australia with Ireland and put another set of Khan & Wasim (this time Shadab & Imad) - not sure if they can put 22….

That’s the difference between ability & attitude- Misbah has absolutely no input in this. Guy was intelligent, understood the game & aware of his handicap - instead of trying to get output of a horse from a mule, he found a way out to get best of the mules.

Brother I don't care about this story. What does this have to do with him changing the entire mo 1 ranked t20 team, replacing it for shehzad, akmal, Imam, and then brining on rizwan, Amd having players like Husnain and usman qadir and making chacha the finsger when he wasn't even a centrally contracted player, and bringing back the 37 year old irfan

Misbah has the easiest coaching stint, all he has to do was chill and do nothing to the t20 side. He only had to fix odi and test.

And why was he so aggressive? The reporter rightfully asked him why he changed everything, and caused the losses and whitewash and his reply was sarcastic and then he went on a rant?

What does any of your story have anything to do with this?
I told you I don't care about narratives.

I'm pretty sure the gist of this post went over the guy you were responding to.
