"Our cricketers who play all 3 formats of the game are starting to feel the fatigue" : Mickey Arthur

Mickey Arthur at a presser today:

"I was talking to Shinwari in the timeout as he is an international-class bowler and I think he's a very good bowler, he didn't bowl one ball over the wicket"

"His strength is running in and coming over the wicket and taking it across the batsman, but he bowled all his overs around the wicket into their hitting area"

"The expectation from me from international cricketers is that they just know what they need to do"

"His variation ball is the one where he comes around the wicket and that his how we work and train everyday with Pakistan"

"He did not come over the wicket, and not start over the wicket at all"

"So by default he is coming straight into their hitting areas and the margin for error becomes that much smaller"

"I just couldnt fathom that out and I wanted an explanation, I wanted to know why he did that"

"I will tell you one thing which is a bit of a worry for me and that is our players who play for Pakistan have played 4.5 months solid and we are starting to see that Shaheen Shah Afridi pulls up - that's a bit of a worry"

"Babar Azam's got a little bit of a niggle and that's a little bit of a worry"

"Shadab Khan's groin is starting to play up"

"Those are things that are starting to worry me and I am talking without my Karachi Kings cap, as a Head Coach of Pakistan"

"Because we have some tough cricket [coming up], we have a series against Australia and I am not talking out of school here as Inzi and I have been talking very very closely about it, that we are going to test our bench strength because we just need to find some time for our players that play all 3 formats to have a break, to go away and refresh themselves, otherwise, when we get to the World Cup and our key players for the World Cup start breaking down because we've played too much cricket so that is a worry"

"So I think we are seeing our cricketers who play all 3 forms of the game just starting to feel the fatigue"

"That's mental fatigue and physical fatigue and because of that, their techniques are suffering just a little bit"

"So the key [for KK] is to find that momentum and finding that winning combinations and form at the backend [of the tournament], so you slip right through and that often happens; you saw that in the BBL, with IU a couple of years ago, that's what kinda happens in this competition, so as I say 'Inshallah' we will find it very soon"

"Amir's been off colour and he is possibly in the same boat as everybody else due to 4.5 months of continuous cricket for these guys and we are going into the 5th month"

"The guys are starting to feel jaded, Amir is starting to feel jaded"

"We will freshen him up and we will get him ready as there is a big prize for us as we are a very proud franchise"

"Babar is a quality player and what I am now working on is to make sure he doesnt get run out"

"Its a real waste for all of us as he is such a good player"

LOL well that happens when you play the same 11 over and over again.

The games vs AUS are JAMODIS to the core. Play new guys and rest the main players!

Then why are Hassan Ali and Fahim Ashraf roaring in ball after ball? They have played about the same amount of International Cricket as your beloved Amir and Shinwari!

Is he implying that we'll rest the main players for the Aus series and try out some youngstas?

Amir had a 4 month rest what r u on about?

I agree the bench strength should be tested out though.

He played domestic cricket during that time he was out of the team. The players will never let go of the T-20 leagues because that is where the money is. Can the PCB compensate the players for missing out on the low quality T-20 leagues? Also if the PCB prevents the players from playing in the CPL and BPL, will the WI and BCB allow their cricketers to go to the PSL? Very tricky act. But most importantly we need to have players on the bench, we need to stop playing our main 11 players in T-20 Cricket when the other countries around the world play their bench players in them.

Shinwari is trash. Also it's no surprise this happens when you play your best 11 vs Zimbabwe B and Scotland in T20s:facepalm: .

same old stuff. previously it wast "we are very proud cricket team" this time it is "we are very proud franchise"
Amir & Shinwari aren't regularly playing for last 5 months. Mickey is totally clueless about king's problem. he didn't say anything about their pathetic batting lineup & their bench strength.

Since PCB and management aren't trying new players in PSL the you have 2 choice
1. Bring back TTFs brigade Kamran, Butt, Shehzad, Irfan, Sami etc
2. Or allow some useless foreigner players to play for us

Arthur is running out of ideas.

He has taken Pakistan cricket as far as he could. This world cup will be his swansong.

“We are a very proud but tired cricket team”.

My Team to Australia :

1. Shan Masood
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Imam Ul Haq
4. Haris Sohail
5. Saud Shakeel
6. Saad Ali
7. Sarfaraz
8. Aamir Yamin
9. Imad Wasim

11. Faheem Ashraf
12. Haris Rauf / Mohammed Musa
13. Shadab Khan
14. Umer Akmal
15. Mohammed Nawaz

He is right.
The UAE games especially we need to NOT play fakhar Malik and hafeez. They are basically going to slip into the bad habits of playing on low bounce wickets that when they come to England .. ..
Babar should only pay the last 2 odis
Shaheen shouldn't play more than 1-2 games Vs aus and 2-3 Vs England
Nawaz should come in to rotate out faheem for two of the UAE games.

Haris
Imam
Shan
Rizwan
Imad
Shadab
Nawaz
Should play the bulk of the games with the other guys dipping on and out

If they all are playing all 3 formats whose fault is this? Obviously Mickey and Inzi need to look into it as they are the culprits. They should look how India and England are managing workload of their players.

There was no point of playing Shaheen, Hassan, Shadab and Amir in T20s against SA. When we easily have players like Junaid, Wahab, Raees Zafar Gohar etc who could have done decent job, we could have tested bench strength and our main bowlers could have rested.

Same with batting we could have tried Saud Shakeel, Umar Amin, Maqsood etc

Cant understand the fear they have of resting and trying players even in T20s.

Amir was rested for 2 odis and 2 t20s. He was also rested for the Australia and NZ series granted he went back to play domestic cricket during this period. But am tired of the excuses being made for him

I would like him to get time away from cricket, being on the bench or playing domestic doesnt serve the same purpose.

The fatigue excuse does not work for Amir. He has been given plenty of rest in the last few months. I strongly believe that he is going to retire from Test cricket very soon.

His future lies in playing Limited Overs cricket for Pakistan for 3-4 years before fading away and limiting himself to T20 leagues.

Yeah not to him. But pakistan should stop playing the likes of hasan in all formats. His workload since debut has been quite high. Need to play newbies in International T20's and the likes of Hasan in ODI's and Tests only.

Shinwari is trash whether he is bowling around the wicket or not.

Sounds like we'll be putting out a reserve team vs AUS then.

Only thing tiring in pakistani cricket right now is the endless excuses from our coach.

So why not ensure that these players are only permitted to play a few PSL matches.

Well what he is saying is right. We don't need to play the main players every game but he should be having this talk with the selectors, not the media. Mickey seems to be too much lip talk, unless he has been having this talk with inzamam and they are not listening.

It's a tricky situation, the main Pakistani players not playing the psl may hurt the league

So finally he realised that when u keep playing the same player for every game they get mentally fatigued and loose the hunger to perform.

I think Mickey likes Shinwari because he gives it his all whenever he bowls and doesn't hold back. But yes he's only a back up option at best.

Usman Shinwari ex factor was his prodigious swing, he needs to find that back somehow

I think the head of the selection committee for the Australia tour should ensure that all our regular players are benched, and the team below plays against Australia.

Imamul Huq (He doesn’t seem to need the break now).
Shan Masood (Will have a chance to prove himself in ODI's, can serve as a backup for Imam / Fakhar at the World cup if does well).
Talat Hussain (So, people don’t say he didn’t get enough chances).
Haris Sohail (Will get some Match practice, needs to be in WC squad as well) .
Umar Akmal (Recent batting attitude and form shows he will be an asset in the world cup).
Ummar Siddiq (WK – I am tired of Rizwan’s talent)
Immad Waseem (Captain for only the Australian series)
Amer Yamin / Umar Khan (preferably, the 19 years slow left Arm from Karachi Kings, I see potential and would select him in starting 11).
Wahab Riaz (He has done well recently).
Junaid Khan (Also must be part of our WC squad)
Haris Rauf (Will get some exposure, if he does well we can add him to WC squad)

This series is useless because its being played in uae.
Give rest to
babar
Fakhar
Hasan
Babar
Shaheen
Malik

One thing we also need to learn is to stop playing our First XI in all Test matches, or any matches for that matter. If there is a dead rubber or a match against a weaker side at home then we should always rest a few of the main players and play some younger guys who can take their place. Not only will the younger players get top level experience, these guys will also be rested and ready to go for more important matches. Think back to what IU did last year in the last group stage match of PSL last season, they rested all their players who had a heavy workload for the past few weeks and played few young guys. Although they lost the match, there players were ready to go for the more important Play-Off game after that.

For the pace bowlers we have enough quality for them to be rotated around so really they should not be getting fatigued. Our pace battery now post PSL is ridiculous Aamir, Shaheen, Hassan, Shinwari, Abbas, Fahim Ashraf and now also Haris Rauf and Musa.

They need to do something like this:
Tests:
Abbas, Shinwari and one of Musa or Rauf.
ODIs
Aamir, Shaheen and Hassan
T20s
Aamir, Hassan and Shaheen

Shaheen needs to be rotated consistently with guys like Shinwari, Musa and Haris Rauf or else he is going to give in with an injury. Aamir and Hassan Ali need to focus on LOIs in my opinion.

This is true. You need a bunch of players who can be rotated throughout the calendar especially if they are playing multiple formats. Also I think some players play in too many T20 leagues - CPL, BBL, PSL,The saffer league, BPL etc. They play way too much cricket across formats. Need to be carefully monitored to ensure they don't burnout

Didn't the PCB or someone think about enforcing a rule where players only play in two T20 leagues. I think PCB thought of doing it or something.

Any national players carrying injuries should either not play the PSL or only play a few matches.

Already several of the national team's players are carrying knocks at the PSL.

Its a tricky situation, the PSL needs all the best players available possible, we don't have enough quality foreign players playing as it is. If we have too many local domestic players then how will it be different from a Faysal Bank T-20 tournament.

International cricket comes before any PSL tournament.

Risking the international career of a player for a T20 tournament makes no sense to me.

They also had this transfer window where they could buy local talents and play them ahead of the worried fatigue players...

I have not seen a rotation policy take place with pakistan national team at any point even when they play scotland, ireland or zimbabwe:babar

They used to play their senior players to make runs against minnows so that they can justify their selections.. If they cant score against top teams, then play the youngsters who score against the minnows so that they will replace the seniors eventually.

Genius from Pakistan's think tank lol.

Play your first team against Zimbabawe, Ireland, Zimbabwe, SL & WI B, ICC World XI and all other meaningless LOIs but test your bench strength just a couple of months before the WC.

How much of that was down to the use of the Grays ball in domestic cricket ? That ball swung prodigiously.
