I think there could/should be changes to the squad. Bring in another specialist spinner and drop Malik and Abid.

Shadab in for Hafeez and that's probably the best lineup possible.

I do not want to weaken the batting lineup and find ourselves 1-4 like we we’re in the 2015 WC.

Hafeez is as good as a spinner as Shadab but a much better batsman. However - he must bat at 5 or below.

We won't be 1-4, the batting is fine, the bowling is what's struggling. Hafeez is nowhere near Shadab as a bowler, especially after his remodeled action.

I'll go with this

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Imam Ul Haq
3. Babar Azam
4. Sarfraz Ahmed
5. Mohammad Hafeez
6. Asif Ali
7. Imad Wasim
8. Shadab Khan
9. Mohammad Amir
10. Hasan Ali
11. Shaheen Shah Afridi

That is the best we can do bat pretty deep with Hasan coming in at 10, and Shaheen ain't a bad #11. Plus we get some variety with the two spinners, then the 2 left arm pacers then the 1 right armer. Batting is in solid nick, top 3 really don't need to say much about they let their bat do the talking. Then I'd put Sarfraz at #4 as he showed that in the middle overs he can be pretty useful. Hafeez at #5 because we need someone who can shift gears at that position which I can't see Haris do. Then Asif Ali at 6, and Imad at 7 followed up by Shadab as well who can do the finishing business. This is in my opinion our strongest XI and I feel had we fielded this XI against England we may have came away with a win or two for sure.

Batting is fine and I dont think one extra specialist batsman can make that much difference. I would have replaced Imad with Shadab but against WI you need atleast two spinners. Spin is what troubles them.

we need atleast 3 spinner to choke w.i in middle overs .shadab, imad and hafeez should provide that

30 overs from the pacers and 20 overs ideally from Imad and Hafeez (with Haris + Fakhar to bowl a few overs if required).

I don't rate Shadab with the ball and he's even worse with the bat, so his inclusion will disturb the balance of the side. If we want to play Shadab in your team, at least put him in the right place in the batting order - at 9 below Hasan Ali.

4 changes from today's match

Windies struggle against spin, so should go spin heavy. Atleast 23-25 overs of spin should be bowled.

H SOHAIL == S MALIK

If the 4th wicket falls to early shadab can come in.
Basically Asif Imad and Hassan for the last 15 only

Sarfaraz needs to play like he played today

With flat tracks and below average fast bowlers, it does not make sense to go with all out fast bowling options. I think batsmen will find it harder to score against the spinners than pacers. India-England series was also dominated by spinners from both teams.

I would go with 3 pacers, one container and two wicket takers. So, it will be Aamir, Shaheen, and Hassan. Then, you need two solid spin options. Imad and Shadab are the only spin options in the squad so they have to play.

Sarfraz will keep the wickets so that leaves space for 5 batsmen. Imam, Fakhar, and Babar are solid top 3 so there are only two batting spots available which must go to Haris and Asif. Haris is a better batsman/bowler than Hafeez and Asif brings something different to the team.

As most of the batsmen have been doing fine, you don’t need much batting depth and you can always take a risk by playing a hitter like Asif than a better all-round batsman like Hafeez or Malik. Most of the runs have to come from the top 5.

If any of the bowlers go for runs, Haris and Fakhar should chip in few overs of part time spin. If Imad or Shadab fail to bowl decently then replace them with Hafeez or Malik in subsequent matches.

No right-left combo at top but think we're stuck with that top 3 now. Haris is too slow potentially, but I don't see the others lasting against fast pace. Asif Ali outperformed Hafeez (yes he played more matches, but he scored significantly quicker), and also allows Sarfraz to bat a bit higher up in the order and might make up for the fact we are playing too many guys who score too slow.

Not ideal putting in Amir with no matches up to the world cup, but Junaid looked bad, and Hasnain is just not ready. Hasan is lucky to keep his place after that series, but no replacements hopefully he gets back to his best.

The problem with your XI is that the tail starts at no. 6 with Asif lol :)

Asif struggles to bat and his twin 50s this series was his absolute peak - not surprised he failed in the last two matches.

Imad is horribly out of form and cannot seem to score more than 30 runs.

Shadab is also a glorified tailender and his career SR of 68 speaks volumes about his ability as a batsman.

However, we are not spoilt for choices and must play Asif and Imad in the starting XI. However - Shadab needs to be booted out ASAP.

Need to have Asif in the starting XI as he is the only power hitter.

But haris done enough to merit a place in the starting 11? I dont think he has

Cannot do worse than Malik - he was unlikely to be dismissed for 41 in the 2nd ODI when he was going along nicely.

On English conditions - our batting would be fine but every once in a while - we collapse like there is no tomorrow (like we did today at 6-3 lol)

If Shadab must play - it will be at the expense of Imad so the starting Xi will be:

1) Fakhar

On paper yes but in reality - Amir, Hassan and Shaheen are tailenders whilst Shadab cannot bat to save his life (as demonstrated by his career SR of 68!). Imad is horribly out of form whilst Asif is 50:50.

I would argue in favor of dropping Shadab but if he MUST play for tactical reasons then drop Imad instead and play Haris.

Haris, Hafeez, Imad, Asif and Shadab cannot all be in the starting XI at once. One of them needs to be dropped.

To be fair 9 of the 11 are sealed so Micky deserves some credit. There is always chaos leading to the WC in terms of team composition. Not this time! Even in the Asia cup he tried a team similar to this with Asif at 6. That’s what Micky wants.

The issues Arthur has are;
(I) who will play at no.4? Most likely will be Hafeez

(II) can be play Harris who is a better no.4 than Hafeez and accommodate Hafeez by dropping Imad at no.7? Then Hafeez would become no.6 and Asif Ali drops down to no.7

(III) if he goes with (II) can Harris and Hafeez share 5th bowler duties where batsmen nowadays are ruthless and will target them.

(IV) if Hafeez gets picked over Harris can he drop Imad for Malik? With Malik and Hafeez sharing 5th bowler duties? Again batsmen will tear into Malik and Hafeez if they are 5th bowler options.

Anyone who thinks senior man Malik won’t be in the starting XI is very naive. He will 100% be there at the expense of either Asif or Haris.
This is exactly what is going to happen and will kill our 30% hope of doing any good at world cup

Malik should not play as he can only be coming in for Asif which shouldn't happen... There should be a tie between Hafeez and imad, whoever gets picked should expect to ball their 10 overs... Hafeez shouldn't play in top four positions and should never be played at an expense of Harris Sohail.. Sarfaraz must bat @5 the latest... I will not at this point tinker with imam and fakhar as an openers. My playing 11should be as follows

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Harris
Sarfaraz
Hafeez / imad
Asif
Shadab
Hasan
Amir
Shaheen / husnain

This is what I think the PCB will go with

Ul haq
Zaman
Azam
Hafeez
Malik
Sarfraz
Shadab Khan
I Wasim
Amir
Hasan Ali
Shah Afridi

But haris done enough to merit a place in the starting 11? I dont think he has

Yeah the man with an average of 47 and a SR of 83 doesn't merit a place over Hafeez with an average of 34 and a SR of 76, Malik with an average of 35 and a SR of 82.

However, we are not spoilt for choices and must play Asif and Imad in the starting XI. However - Shadab needs to be booted out ASAP.

We'll need the extra bowler on these flat pitches, and WI especially are susceptible to spin.

If you move Asif down to 8, who knows if he'll perform or he'll just be wasted. I get what you're doing play a longer line up and the batsmen higher up will automatically play with more confidence and freedom, knowing there's batting strength below. I'd advocated it in the past but things have changed.

Hafeez isn't the bowler he was before able to complete near 10 overs. Imad might not pick wickets but he bowls 10 overs pretty reliably. Malik again isn't as good of a bowler as he was. Haris isn't amazing with the ball either.

Imad scores decent runs at 7, and he might come back to form with the bat. He at least got some quick runs this series. Is far superior than Shadab at 7, or Faheem at 7 who the latter wasn't trusted with 10 overs anyway.

An attacking spinner would feel great for this team, but it's too late to try someone, we should have tried someone this series and picked someone else than Yasir Shah. Why Zafar has still not been picked for the squad boggles my mind, he deserved at least a go. We've got to pin our hopes Shadab will do well. He did struggle in 2019, but he was good before that, and against WI he's done well in the past. Perhaps maybe he'll do better given he doesn't have to focus with the bat anymore, Imad's clearly taken the no.7 spot from him.

After hearing the sad news of Asif Ali if he isn't able to play in WC I think Akmal should come in, he could be deadly on these pitches.

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Babar Azam
3. Haris Sohail
4. Hafeez
5. Sarfaraz
6. U Akmal
7. Imad Wasim
8. Shadab Khan

11. Shaheen Afridi

1) Fakhar
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Haris
5) Sarfraz
6) Hafeez/Asif (depending on pitch)
7) Imad
8) Shadab
9) Hassan
10) Amir
11) Shaheen

Hafeez's off spin also gives him an edge over Asif.

Will Asif play in the world cup? His daughter passed away, not sure if he'll play after such a tragedy.

If Asif plays-

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Sarfraz+*
Hafeez
Asif
Shadab
Hasan
Amir
Shaheen

If Asif doesn't play, then one of Malik or Imad will need to come in. Another option is to take a gamble, and call up Umar Akmal.

Umar

Asif Ali is must for death over acceleration and hafeez for his economical spells.

Haris is in good form too , pakistan have a headache here.

fakhar , imam and babar select themselves and sarfraz is the captain.

Asif Ali and imad give us hitting options in the end.

Imam

Dont think pakistan can afford to play malik.

Umar is unlikely to be selected. I would go for safraz at 4 and haris at 5. Also i would replace shinwari with hasan ali.
However, a good team and i would be happy enough to see this team for the first wc match.

From the 15 man squad, I think the team will be:

Asif

Haris

Asif
Imad
Shadab
Amir
Hasan
Shaheen
---------------------
Haris
Malik
Wahab
Hasnain

The overall squad is good. However, contrary to popular opinion, I would want to replace Asif with Harris. That way Harris can bat at 4 and provides an additional bowling option. Hafeez is a good hitter at no 6 so can easily fill the role. That will provide Sarfaraz with a few bowling options.

Haris is one place too low at 4 on these flat surfaces. I think he should be a backup for the top 3. You need a person who can go after the spinners at 4.

Malik should be a backup for positions 4, 5, 6.

1) Fakhar
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Haris
5) Sarfraz
6) Hafeez
7) Shadab
8) Asif
9) Hassan
10) Amir
11) Shaheen

Shadab/Wahab will be in the lineup depending on opposition I believe.

Shaheen will play, his bounce will trouble the Windies batsmen. Shadab also a cert given how much success he's had against them.

Shadab will definitely play first game, given his stellar record against them.

My x1:

Fakhar
Hafeez
Babar
Haris
Sarfaraz
Asif
Imad
Wahab
Shadab
Hasan
Shaheen

Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Hasnain should definitely not play this match. One is good for nothing these days and other 2 will be demolished by WI as they like pace on the bat that has no variety.

From the rest of the 12, 8 players are sure starters:

Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul Haq and Babar Azam is our settled Top 3 who are all highly consistent and key to our success.

Sarfraz Ahmed is our captain, wicket keeper and a decent batsmen in the top 5, who can maintain a good run rate during the middle overs through excellent strike rotation.

Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi is our best new ball combo, with Hasan being 3rd pacer to bowl in the middle overs.

Shadab Khan is the best spinner we have currently and WI has struggled against him in the past, making him our trump card for that match.

That leaves them with 4 players of which 3 should be selected:

Haris Sohail
Mohammad Hafeez
Asif Ali
Imad Wasim

For me, Haris Sohail should be permanent in our lineup and to keep as many spin bowling options possible against a powerful WI batting lineup, I will take both M Hafeez and Imad Wasim against them.

I would drop both Malik and Hafeez for this one and play Harris and Shadab.

Amir comes in for Hasnain.

From the final 15 squad. this would be my lineup for the first game against West Indies:

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Hafeez
3. Babar Azam
4. Haris Sohail
5. Sarfaraz
6. Asif Ali
7. Imad Wasim
8. Shadab Khan
9. Hassan Ali
10. Amir
11. Shaheen Afridi
