not bad at all

Only nitpicks are that we should be done with Rahat, and I would have liked to have seen Bilal Asif and mainly Zafar Gohar there

No Yasir is interesting though, are they holding him back or is Mickey done with him and planning to go with Shadhab and Salman?

Would be a mistake if thats the case

By the looks of it saud might be warming the bench because of uncle ifti. when will we get rid of rahat ali, a total waste of space, plus would have liked to see zafar gohar there and rohail nazir or umair masood.

So they don’t want Aus to play spinners before the first test, Not bad
Should’ve just put club level players as this is what everyone does

Disappointed again!!
No specialist spinners again in the squad. We need to find new spinners and expose them to international level.
Tried and tested fast bowlers again not going for any youngsters. Looks like the sectors do not want to put any bench pressure on our current lot of fast bowlers.
Glad to see that we are trying some new batsmen though as this area also needs a lot focus in our current reality.

What will it take for the selectors to pick a specialist spinner for once

Salman Butt and Akmals not in this squad as well

someone correct me, recently there were talks of A tours having players under 30... now which scenario is true... if it is true, some players are getting younger? or was this just a talk here on PP which i am assuming to be of official nature...

need specialst spinner but may be they dont want aus to have good practice,,,agha salman ahs been good addition, please no chacha ifti.

Terrible squad.... so many players just getting recycled after proving not good enough or past it for international cricket like Rahat Ali, Ifti, Wahab Riaz and Rizwan. Also what's the point of playing Asad Shafiq? He's already a first pick in the Test team. What will they learn from him playing?! Wanted to see more young players promoted so we could find someone new for the team. For example we know Rizwan isn't good enough to replace Sarfraz, so try someone else. Wahab and Rahat can no longer perform at the highest level so try any of the young bowlers who have been out performing them domestically.

Poor Australia. For those who are complaining, Pak is playing smart here. Not allowing Aus to practice any spin, apart from few overs of part time.

Moreover, all three seamers are left armers but, Pak will play Abbas and Hassan, if 3, then it would be Faheem, again a RF.

Smart move by Inzi and co.

But, there are about 4 first choice batsmen, which means all will get practice against Aus bowlers.

# 1 to #11 are the first choice 11, unless there's an injury.

Average squad. What are Iftikhar, Rahat and Sami aslam doing there? Thats 3 spots wasted. Could have included saif badar in it.

Spinners?!?!?

I can only hope that this is some kind of a strategy to not allow Australia any actual proper preparation against spin before the Tests.

Deliberately kept out of squad - not a bad ploy. Didn’t like Umaid, Ifti & Asad in the squad though. Now Saud won’t get the game which he deserved.

Is inzi really that cunning?

NO.

This list is his, that’s why few names are there, but non selection of spinners are categorically suggested to him by someone else, for a reason.

Apart 4-5 players all players are useless. This is ne of the sole reason of our cricket's downfall.
Same rubbish recycle again and again

Why are we selecting the likes of Wahab, Asad Shafiq and Rahat Ali for the A Squad instead of giving more opportunities to youngsters?

Folks just to clarify its pretty obvious that pak team doesnt want aussies to get used to spin thus have not picked any spinners and that makes sense

Good to see some youngsters like Rahat Ali being groomed for future, thanks Inzi.

Agree, but Inzi has his own "majbooris", please try to understand.

It's scary that Inzi thinks that Iftikhar is good for the national team. He has no business playing at international level yet he is in the A team.

Maybe they don't want to expose them to Australia before the Test series.

Should have some young pacers there instead of Rahat and Umaid.

I've been a big Inzi supporter. But even I think this is poor selection: Picking Iftikhar over Fawad Alam.

Gotta feel for Fawad :(

All the batsmen have been selected on merit. People who are calling for Fawad Alam need to see that he has not been among the top scorers for the past 2 seasons.

Spinners haven’t been selected so that Aus doesn’t get any spin practice. Otherwise, 2-3 spinners are doing extremely well in Quaid trophy this year.

The pace bowler selection is atrocious. Surely, Mir Hamza, Taj Wali would have been better selections. Can’t see any future for likes of Wahab, Rahat and Umaid Asif.

Also to note is that this is not a proper A-team squad but rather a squad for side match so that batsmen like Asad, Salahuddin and Saad can get practice/be tested. We shall see a different set of players against NZ A and England Lions.

Decent selection.

Happy to see Saad Ali, Saud Shakeel, and Agha Salman.

Disappointed to see Wahab (just there as an excuse to get practice), Rahat, Sami Aslam (backup for Imam), Rizwan (mediocore with the bat although outstanding keeper), and of course Ifthikhar “Pubescent” Ahmed.

No Mir Hamza. Hopefully he will make the main squad and not be dropped before being even played a game.

Rahat Ali about to show his batting qualities and challenge Sobers and Kallis as the best ever batting all rounder.

Shows the lack of talent that most of these guys are still bring picked. Not one left field pick based on pure talent.

Good to see Waqas Maqsood in the squad. I think he is one of the most mature bowlers in the setup. Can move the ball both ways and hase great control. Hopefully this will be launching pad he has needed.

Just looking at the stats for the ongoing domestic season and struggling to see any justification for why Umaid Asif, Rahat Ali, Wahab Riaz and Waqas Maqsood need more A team game time to develop their skills. All 30 plus and none of them have produced anything this season which would put them on an equal footing with their peers never mind better than them. Especially considering the number of younger bowlers that are outperforming them this season.

Why hasn't the PCB used this match to give youngsters a chance.

Why select Asad Shafiq, Rahat Ali, Wahab Riaz etc?

Surely this was an opportunity to blood some youngsters.

I'm not quite sure why they've also selected Muhammad Rizwan as well we definitely need to see other keepers

Personally I don't like this so called "tactics" to not give any spinners to the opposition for practice.
Cricket is a beautiful game and it needs to be played in that spirit. Last time around, we had Raza Hasan in the A team as a specialist spinner yet we were still able to thump Aussies 2-0 in the Test series.

It happens to every team.

When they tour, they’re provided with below par teams or players.

It happened to Pakistan the last time they toured Australia only to be swallowed whole 3-0.

there is not a single spinner in the team its very strange for me again

Another series in the UAE and no specialist spinner.

Pakistan really hasn't been getting really good spinners come through.

Zafar, Asghar, Raza and a few more names keep going around but not worth picking which is why they can't even get to play for the A team.

Screw that beautiful game nonsense, they do the same thing to us.

Australia, Yes, but England provided us with proper county A sides. Leicestershire, Kent and Northamptonshire.

Although I think it won't matter much against Australia.

On the contrary, we could have sent a spinner who could have benefitted from playing against International team.

What is Wahaab Riaz Rahat Ali and Asad Shafiq doing in A squad as these players do not need A tour. A tour is meant for opportunity to new players not giving chances to people who are in business for so many years. How can Pakistan cricket improve? These players during their youth days had their share of A tours not fair at all.

Not the worst idea to get Asad Shafiq some batting practice ahead of the Test series

Don't read too much into this squad (and the lack of spinner).

Inzi/Management are smart enough not to help the Aussies prepare.

Wait until the squad for the upcoming series vs NZ A and Lions are announced before jumping to conclusions.

A hilarious and very smart decision to not select any spinners. Australians can continue practicing on water bottles. Honestly didn't think the selectors had it in them to make decisions like these.

Shan Masood playing today has to be right up there with one of the most blatant acts of nepotism I’ve ever witnessed.
