What's new

Pakistan (153/3) advance to the final of the T20 World Cup after a 7 wicket over New Zealand (152/4)

Congratulations to all my fellow Pakistanis. Thank you for making this a fun experience to watch at 2 am.

Good effort to take it to the last over, but that was more due to Pakistan coasting it.

Either way, abysmal with the ball and in the field today. Could have got this closer had we been better in those areas.

NZ have a habit of messing up on big occasion.

We dropped more catches this match than we have in the entire tournament so far.

Buckled under pressure as typically Kiwi's do against Pakistan in knock out games. Nothing abnormal. Every single knock out game between NZL and PAK was a hammering by Pakistan.

Congratulations Pakistan and it's supporter. It seems they will win this WC. Looks like Some divine help with them this time

Yes boyss!!! We are in finals 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Would be glad to see India going out tomorrow.

Congratulations Pakistan fans. What an unbelievable turnaround this has been. You guys must be pinching yourself still. What a performance in a knock out game.

Usually it's against teams a lot better than us which makes it bearable, you go into matches against Aus and Eng expecting to lose because they're just better man for man.

Against teams on a similar level or worse is when it's annoying.

England are a team to beat this time..looks like Pakistan vs England final this time like the repeat of 92 WC

I wasn't impressed by Williamsons knock. He bats way too cautiously and slowly for this format. NZ needs to look beyond Neesham as well, he was a waste of space down the order.

Boult and Southee are now spent forces and they are showing their age both with the ball and in the field.

That's a shame. One of the bowlers should have been MOM. Probably Afridi

Kiwi Jobbers out :))) Kiwindians squealing like pigs :)))
Meh, there's another WC to look forward to next year so not fussed.

We're a better ODI side than T20 side so hopefully can do better there.

Thank you ICC for this experience. Half job done, now time to screw over England harder than Vince screwed over Bret Hart in Montreal.

Yes because ICC rigged the toss and made New Zealand drop so many catches.

Poor New Zealand, they were robbed.

What is this religious difference talk???

We are all the same Rizwan

Southee and Boult thought they will get carried off the pitch in the final, too bad ai :))) you will end your careers with zero LOI trophies and finals heartbreak :yk3

Why do you need to see “because our belief is different?”

Why do we beg SENA teams to tour us then? You clearly tell them you ‘different’!

Rizwan no need to bring Religion every sentence. It’s a cricket interview, not a religious sermon.

Congrats Pakistan. Just hope England makes it final. We have better chance to win against them.

Plz stay humble for now, we have a final to win than you can do all the chest thumping man.

Someone needs to give this guy a proper explanation on what not to say from a religious POV on a neutral platform!

Can you imagine Rohit saying ‘our belief is different that’s why Lord Vishnu helped us”?!

Why not as Muslim it is our duty to praise Allah and remind others of his rewards, if anyone has issue then they can ignore it, I enjoy it.

Agree , just Thank Allah and answer the rest of the question normally.Totally unacceptable.

They got the test championship. It's a big deal

Congratulations brothers!!! This is one to savour. Now time to exorcise the MCG demons on Sunday. Inshallah we will.

Overall the team over performed to make the Semis, probably should have done better given the form. But it is what it is and we couldn't execute when it mattered and lost to an in form team at the business end of the tournament.

Hopefully we start to revamp the team from here because some are just too old or are just not made for T20s.

Best to get the T20 journeymen into the team who play all around the world and have a better understanding for this format.

Congratulations to all the fans of Pak Cricket Team who supported them through thick and thin and not the plastic ones.

Sorry NZ

You lost because your belief is different!

I think you missed the point here...what he meant is that Pakistan believe that everything is on God's hand so whatever was happening with their form was meant to be and now finding form again was meant to be as well...he didn't mean that Kiwis being of another faith...

We are playing cricket with 11 human beings, not XI non Muslims!

Not picking a guy like Munro in 2 wt20is was a big big blunder by NZ management.

Mohammad Rizwan | Player of the Match: Luckily, the fifty was in the semifinal. Babar and I were struggling but we worked hard and believed. We kept fighting. When we crossed the boundary line, we decided to take the attack to the new ball bowlers. When we finished the powerplay, we knew one of us had to bat deep as it was a tricky pitch. Our start (to the tournament) wasn't good, but the guys kept believing.

You're taking his broken english too seriously. He meant that him and Babar always had the belief to win

He's a hack but might be better taking someone like him in the team and at 3. Playing your T20 specialists seems the way to go as shown by the Aussies and English.

Feels like Kane is only in the team because of his name, he's captain and because he needs to play T20I to pick up an IPL contract. He should be dropped like Taylor.

Pakistan storm into the final riding on Babar and Rizwan's half-centuries

An opening stand of 105 runs between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan helped Pakistan in setting the tone for their seven-wicket win over New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Sydney on Wednesday.

Daryl Mitchell's half-century rescues New Zealand

New Zealand had lost three key wickets for just 49 runs when Mitchell joined skipper Kane Williamson at the crease. Mitchell went on the charge straightaway whereas Williamson played the second fiddle, as the duo put on a stand of 68 runs for the fourth wicket.

Williamson departed for 46 from 42 deliveries just when their innings entered the death over but Mitchell carried on and made his way to a superb knock of 53* from just 35 deliveries to help New Zealand cross 150.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-24-2 to his name. But the entire unit delivered a disciplined performance on a used track to restrict the Kiwis to a chaseable target.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan set the tone for Pakistan

Pakistan needed a steady start to chase the target down but they got much more than that as Babar and Rizwan put on a show to lay the base for their victory. The duo put on a stand of 105 runs, with both batters making their way to well-deserved fifties. While Rizwan scored 57 from 43 deliveries, Babar made his way to a 42-ball knock of 53.

Pakistan needed just 48 to win from 44 deliveries when their partnership came to an end and the middle-order finished the job off with perfection, chasing the target down with seven wickets and five balls to spare.

What next?

This is a tremendous achievement for Pakistan considering that they lost their first two matches in the Super 12. They bounced back from there, registering three wins on the trot, and made their way to the semi-finals. And now they are in the final having beaten New Zealand comprehensively. Pakistan already had the mental edge coming into this contest as they had also beaten the Kiwis in the final of the tri-series ahead of the tournament. Now, they will take on either India or England in the T20 World Cup final at the MCG in Melbourne on November 13.

Pakistan always has NZ number in world cup knock out games, even if NZ at times have been a stronger side. Its always about on the day in these games.

everyone has their bogey team.

NZ were too over dependant on Finn Allen. Pakistan getting him out early was vital.

The pitch didn’t suit New Zealand a high scoring match on a wicket with more pace and bounce was ideal today the conditions were similar to UAE which tilted it in Pakistans favour.

English isn’t his first language, he wasn’t able to articulate it well but I had hoped posters would be sensible to understand this.

All he said was that our belief is different; if during the times we struggle, we continue to work hard, we will be rewarded by Allah.

Nothing wrong in what he said. It’s a fact, a beautiful fact, a philosophy that everyone implements. Yes he used the word “different” but it wasn’t to cause hate or reaction, it was just to say how his belief differs to someone who probably would have given up given everything was going against Pakistan.

We don’t need to cause drama for everything. Qatar World Cup is taking place and Qatar are using billboards to promote Hadiths and sayings of Prophet Pbuh. Should Qataris cause a stir there?

Celebrate the win, focus on the win. Grown men acting like little children is embarrassing.

You missed his point completely, us muslim believe Allah guides us and supports us through our struggles, and he did not say Allah does not support other hard workers. Anyway you need to re evaluate your view of Rizwan after he keep proving you wrong in crunch games.

we deserve this humiliation

Apparently we bottled it during our bowling which has been praised to high heavens by commies and everyone who has an inkling of cricket knowledge...shows that no matter how intelligent you may be, your deep rooted biased beliefs and ego to be correct at all times will always hold you back... there's a reason why humility is so important!

“Our belief is different”

What if Isreal says this after winning a match?

Yeah, Finn is going to have to learn to respect bowlers when they have the ball nipping around. Had he been more patient he could have cashed in later and given us a good platform.

Going from ball 1 only works when you can trust the ball wont move and will come onto the bat.

That's the only way he'll be able to evolve as a batsmen and become world class. Hopefully he can make the transition to ODIs and Tests well, he could be our Warner/Sehwag in Tests and ODIs he could be our McCullum.

Still young and has a long career ahead of him if he works hard.

For some people, being right about their own biased views is more important than winning...I feel sorry for them as they cannot fully enjoy moments like these

You see true colors of plastic fans when the team is going through a bad patch. It takes one to be even more pathetic to nitpick when everyone else is celebrating the win.

Wow, was following match but just now on pp as working all day. Awesome win -deserving entry into finals.
Well done to neighbours - and congratulations to PP fans live it up

CONGRATULATIONS Y’all!! Wow what an incredible turnaround to this world cup! I’m so happy right now!!!

What if Isreal says this after winning a match?

It’s true their belief is different. Every belief differs in some way. Stop crying, you’re a grown adult. Enjoy the win.

Perfectly put but English comprehension may be a problem for some posters rather than Rizwan's spoken English.
