What's new

Pakistan (157/8) defeat the West Indies (150/4) by 7 runs in the 2nd T20I at Providence

I would give credit to the batsman there, he was going back in his crease to make the yorkers into half volleys. Not easy to get the ball over the ropes under that pressure.

There was three slot balls in that over, Nicholas missed out 2..

Last one was decent off the radar fuller ball if that is one you are referring to, yes could have gotten it for a 4 on w good day. Which was the other one?

Phew man. Felt really nervous when 20 was needed from 8 balls. Pretty ordinary bowling overs there.

Lol! That was overconfidence to not run here. Holder is a pretty decent batsman and Shaheen is not a bowler you can fancy for 3 consecutive sixes at the end.

Good innings by Nicholas P but he had no support.. And finished innings with a 6.. Pak win by 7 runs

Pak may have won but Pooran just shows how dangerous this WI side is. Almost snatching a win from 85 needed off 6 overs on this pitch. WI batting is really scary.

Not overconfidence, he's well setted so he's their best chance..

Bowlers bowled comparatively less poor balls today but, still much more than my liking.

Pakistan have won 9 of last 11 T20Is against West Indies (excluding last No result match)

I could not really understand the planning of WI. They always leaves so much for last 4 overs. Loosing match with 6 wickets in hand is very poor. They made Shadab like 2nd coming of Warne .

Only Pooran was able to hit freely on this pitch, other than Babar and Rizwan early in their innings.

Fabulous bowling by Pakistan
If any team can stop West Indies in WT20 in UAE...It is Pakistan
Congratulations Pakistan team...well deserved

You forgetting that Pakistan batted pathetically in the last 3 overs. Had it been 180 WI wouldn’t have had any chance. I like Mohd Wasim, he has all the tools to be a v good bowler. Phainti Against Mighty WI will help him.

TBH pak bowled poorly in death overs.. Not many slower deliveries.. They see the success of slower deliveries here and yet they're reluctant to bowl one..

West Indies lost the game in the first 6 overs. A very good game of cricket and which is good for both team come the world cup.

Agreed, death bowling needs to be better.

He is still new at internationals and understanbly nervous. Nawaz used to be rubbish too early on. He has only this year become dependable.

Usman has never had the control. He just bowls a few good deliveries every over. Spell wise he is quite mediocre as reflected by his t20, LA and FC stats.
Nawaz has always been an economical bowler. He is still not a wicket taking option but someone who is suited to do the Abdur Rehman role in the side.

This series is only on BT Sports or its been shown in any other channel as well in UK?

I missed a good game by the looks of it.

Can anyone bat in our team other than Babar and Rizwan FOR GOD SAKE?

An excellent win that will boost PKs and Babar confidence. The middle order still remains a mess with no one putting their hand up to solidify their place. Hafeez is slowly going back to his old ways and will end up as bowler who bats.

I hope the wickets are better than this for the world cup. We've seen two spongy tracks so far where batsmen have struggled on both sides to time the ball.

Pakistan have taken a 1-0 series lead over the West Indies, defending 157 largely thanks to a miserly spell from Mohammad Hafeez.

Hafeez's spell of 1/6 included 19 dot balls, and stifled the hosts in their quest for first blood in the series, with Pakistan holding on by 7 runs despite the best efforts of a fast-finishing Nicholas Pooran.

The off-spinner bowled a maiden over to left-hander Evin Lewis, and his four overs equalled Pakistan's most economical T20I spell, joining Mohammad Amir who finished with figures of 2/6 against United Arab Emirates in February 2015. Kuwait's Mohammad Aslam boasts the best economy rate in a four-over T20I spell, claiming 2/3 against Saudi Arabia in 2020.

Put into bat by the hosts, Pakistan finished on 157/8, a modest score considering a Powerplay of 55/1. After losing opening partner Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Rizwan raced along with captain Babar Azam, though the partnership of 67 was brought undone by Lewis, whose direct hit from 25 metres left the diving Rizwan well short.

Babar raised his bat for his 20th T20I fifty, though his stay at the crease ended soon after, adjudged caught behind after a successful review by Jason Holder and skipper Kieron Pollard. The dismissal put Pakistan's innings in a skid, with the likes of Fakhar Zaman and the lower order only able to muster 23 runs in the last four overs. Holder finished with 4-26, with the ever-consistent Dwayne Bravo claiming 2-24.

Hafeez conceded just five runs across his first two overs, also dismissing Andre Fletcher, with his maiden coming in the fifth over of the innings. Making the most of a slower surface, Shadab Khan was also tight in his spell, conceding just the one boundary as the hosts tried their utmost to relieve the pressure.

Pooran (62 not out) was the only player able to break free in the chase, hitting four fours and six sixes in his 33-ball stay at the crease. With little help around him, Pakistan continued to put the foot down through the work of Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi who picked up the wickets of Chris Gayle (16) and Pollard (13) respectively.

Needing 20 off the last over, Afridi held firm, only conceding boundaries off the last two balls with the match already decided.

After the first match was abandoned due to rain

Pollard once again proved that he only cares about performing for Mumbai Indians. He is not too bothered playing for Windies.
