He is not playing naturally as he has doubts about his place in the team. I think he should be given an extended run. We did that for the likes of khushdil and Iftikhar.
I actually feel nawaz with style of play and tendency to play lofted strokes will do really well @ 3 but the TM probably now desperately looks at him as someone who can dig us out of a hole later on

Pakistan was lucky that Masood and Rizwan got out when before the RR was still under 11. If they both have batted for 2-3 more overs RR would have gone upto 13-14 per over which would have make almost impossible to chase. Fakhar must come at No.3 or select Saim Ayub . They both cannot do any worse than Shan at no. 3. With this performance of Nawaz and Haider looks like middle order have sorted out upto some extent. Bowling looks settled too with the arrival of Shaheen.
Won the tournament.
Tactics are clear. Whether fans agree with all the tactics or not, the team has a definite plan and defined roles. Once that is in place and more or less working, you can work on individuals improving at their own roles/growing their game or replacing one or two parts/players who aren't performing. That's good structure/good management.
Mahsodd v Fakhar is one variable to be worked out.

I'm not sure what Asif Ali is supposed to be doing though. I don't watch enough Pakistan T20 cricket to know what his purpose is even supposed to be and I can't guess from his performances.

I have never seen mediocrity being rewarded more than seeing how Rizwan is continuously allowed to play at slow strike rate. This is why stats don't always show you true picture. Today's Haider knock or Nawaz knock in last game is better than half of Rizwan career but stats won't show you that.

It's amazing a guy having over 2k T20I runs doesn't have the ability to bat at 8 runs per over. Rankings are really overrated.

Despite the win, batting is not up to the mark imo
Start was too slow again. Pakistan were just 64/2 after 10 overs needing another 100 off the final 10. Rizwan needs to change his batting approach. I do not think Shan is cut out for T20 cricket
Fakhar (better in poweplays) needs to open with either Babar or Rizwan
In the end Nawaz (is turning into a genuine all rounder) and Haider Ali bailed us out today. Iftikhar batted sensibly too. Asif Ali failed yet again. He only knows how to play aerial shots!
Sodhi’s 15th over in which he conceded 25 runs proved to be the momentum and game changer today.

Babar Azam | Pakistan captain: The way the team played well, all credit to them. Started well with the ball, and especially the death over were very good. Batters were great, especially the middle order who did their job. The way Nawaz and Haider are playing, outstanding. That's what you want the middle order to do - step up. The wicket behaved similar in both innings, so I don't think so (whether he regretted chasing on seeing the pitch). Before the big event, we have good confidence as a team and we hope to carry the momentum forward.
Kane Williamson | New Zealand captain: Great game of cricket. Pakistan are a very strong side. The way they changed the momentum in their favour was great. Disappointing for us. You always want 20 more runs I guess but the wicket was on the lower side and we have generally operated well this series. Credit to Pakistan, they hit the ball beautifully. There is no blame for anybody (about Sodhi's 25-run over). It's a game of small margins. Even for an over that goes for too many, you aren't far away from changing the game in your favour. That belief is crucial for us. Pakistan are a great team. Nice to make a contribution, obviously you want a few more and want to be on the winning side but it felt good. Got a par total probably, surely wanted a few more but Pakistan's death bowling was quite good. Guys all did their roles well through the tournament.
Michael Bracewell | Player of the Series: Happy with this award. But disappointing that we couldn't get the winners medal today. Have been practising in the nets a fair bit and was prepared to bowl in the powerplay. Daunting to bowl to Rizwan and Babar, but I enjoyed it. It (being a specialist offie for NZ) is different from what I do domestically. Disappointed not to get some boundaries at the end with the bat but Pakistan bowlers bowled very well at the death. A bit disappointing for us but we can take some positives into the World Cup. Feel very fortunate for the opportunities that I've got. Trying to learn as much as possible and soak up as much as I can from the other spin bowlers in our group. Feel like I have a lot more skills now than I did eight months ago.

Have batted in the middle order during the domestic games, so that helped me. The way Haider Ali played, gave us momentum and when Sodhi came, I was thinking that I should go at him because I was hitting with the wind. He (Haider) hit some boundaries and then I took my chances.

Interesting that Malik and Akmal have both won the T20 World Cup sarcasm fail there none of the current team have won or made a final and it’s unlikely to change in Australia unless matches are low scoring.
Chk Malik SR in the semi and final we won a great bowling attack and an on song Afridi carried that team Malik jee played a match losing role.

Malik wasn’t a good performer in World Cups but he did win one Kamran and Nazir were inconsistent but on their day could make a match winning contribution anyway the reply was due to the sarcasm them players mentioned did win something current players haven’t.

Decent performance. Still very little chance in the WC but good to win a decider after Asia cup and last WC.

Its better to drop both babar and rizwan for atleast 2-3 series and then lets see how these 20s 30s players manage to win games. Some fans have no idea about the importance of playing long innings, they are just mesmerized by little camios. Although no doubt that both nawaz and haider played really well today and after a very long gap something to praise about middle order.

With this win - will give good confidence to Pak and with Afridi returning, Pak are a surefire threat to the WC, will make the semis for sure.
This guy Nawaaz is such a revelation. i like his understated style. no big mouthing, just goes in does his job and boy he is impactful!!

Brilliant effort from Pakistan to win tri-series by beating home team in the finals. Middle order coming into play with cameos from Haider, Nawaz and Iftikhar was cherry on the top.

All-rounder Mohammad Nawaz helped Pakistan to a five-wicket victory over New Zealand on Friday to win the tri-series Twenty20 final in Christchurch.
It was a good sign for Pakistan going into the World Cup in Australia, with an opener against arch-rivals India on October 23.
After the hosts finished on 163-7 at Hagley Oval, spinner Michael Bracewell checked Pakistan's early momentum in their reply, before Nawaz stepped up with his decisive 38 off 22 balls.
Having also steered Pakistan out of trouble in Thursday's dead-rubber win over Bangladesh, Nawaz produced another stellar innings before Iftikhar Ahmed sealed victory with a six in the final over.
The Black Caps had started well with captain Kane Williamson the top-scorer with a masterful display of stroke play to chalk up 59 off 38 balls.
The hosts flew out of the traps with Finn Allen hitting three fours before he was caught by Naseem Shah for 12 off six balls.
Williamson came in to settle nerves with his first half-century in any format in 2022 after struggling for form following an elbow injury.
In reply, Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan smashed Tim Southee, on his 100th T20 international appearance, for nine runs in the opening over, then hit Trent Boult for 10 in the second.
Spinner Bracewell took the ball and grabbed the wickets of Azam and Shan Masood. Bracewell finished as man of the series.
Ish Sodhi then trapped dangerman Rizwan lbw for 34 runs off 29 balls.
But just as he did against Bangladesh, Nawaz came to the crease to wrestle back control of the match and Iftikhar's towering six with three balls left clinched victory in style.

Other teams can easily get a 50 avg opener in T20s if they assign him the role that Riz plays. Pak has the 9th worst RR in the PP - at par with BD. Who wouldn't love to open for Pak? Don't take risks. Play at run a ball till 30. Accelerate when you are set. Oppositions would love it too!
In all honesty, which team is doing a banger job with their opening department today? Not even India ... Fatman Rohit is more often out of form than in form these days. Everyone seems to be quite poor at it. Also, you guys have the bowlers to back it up. Fielding is rubbish though ...
Apart from England and Aus, you guys have a decent chance to lift the cup this year

Sir can you find me single opener in ODIs with 50+ average and 130 SR? Single player?
Btw, the only guys that comes close to these stats is AB with 50+ average and 100 SR. Rest of guys who averaged closed to 50 all strike below 100 in ODIs. So this combination is not easy as it seems.
Opening in t20 is harder as PP is 6 overs only.
