You guys are way too critical. Sure Rizwan and Babar played a bit slow but they did make most of the runs. Intent of not hitting in power play is annoying but also building up the innings to chase down the target is also good. The rest of the batsmen need to do their job, what Nawaz did today is what we expect from the middle order! Great knock by him and glad we have found one decent middle order player who can hit hard

Rizwan with the Man of the match! True experts see his value :Dah

Rizwan was nowhere today.

He can thank Nawaz for rescuing his innings by playing at a SR of 225.

Congratulations on the man of the match, though.

This tells me MOTM is just given to highest scorer or wicket taker without taking into account, who changed the match and who had impact.

I also think Nawaz should've been the MOTM.

He had a much bigger impact than Rizwan.

How the hell is Rizwan MOTM?

Without Nawaz Bangladesh would have beat us. Rizwan also got the MOTM vs India (second match) in the Asia Cup when Nawaz rescued us. Poor choice for MOTM.

What is this garbage by PCB? Again no Muhammad Harris in the team?!

Hope they get mauled by NZ tomorrow morning

This is so so disappointing

We deserve to lose so badly in the World Cup

You can’t expect 225 SR everyday, it won’t come off.
Slow batting by top order gonna cost us games

Babar Azam | Winning captain - Definitely happy, the team is playing very well, winning is always good. We didn't bowl well, made some basic mistakes, myself and Rizwan started well with Nawaz finishing it off. We will learn from this and think the middle-order stepping up is good for the team. We will have to field better though, that's one area where improvement is needed, we'll try to give our 100% in tomorrow's final.

Shakib Al Hasan | Losing captain - It's been difficult, but I thought we played our best cricket today. Could have scored a few more runs in the end, but such things do happen. We played well in the middle overs which we were lacking, it's up to us to perform well in the upcoming World Cup. If we had been told we would get 173 at the start of the innings, I would have taken it gladly. We are very clear on the team we'll play in the World Cup, so that's good. My job is to score runs for the team, the bowling is not up to the mark though, that's one area I would like to improve. We have improved a lot through the tournament and that's something positive for us.

Mohammad Rizwan | Player of the Match - Credit to the Bangladeshi bowlers, they bowled really well. Starts are important in chases, so we wanted to keep wickets for the last 10 overs. Credit to Nawaz for his innings on this slightly sticky pitch. Some of our batters went deep, some went from the first ball, Nawaz's innings was outstanding. It was a difficult chase, it's a team game, we tend to keep wickets in hand with power-hitters down the order. Myself and Babar always keep in mind the conditions as we go out to play. We will work hard and hopefully the results will come.

You can look at it from two different angles.

On one hand, we can say, it was a good "clinical" and well "Calculated" chase by Pak.

Rizwan provided the platform and Nawaz flourished on it.

But on the other hand, Bangla's bowling and fielding had some bad holes - otherwise, this batting strategy would've not helped Pak to win.

As I have been saying in other posts, the grounds in Australia are big (just as was one in NZ today), and in such grounds 170, or 175 is a very good to have on the board.

You must run a lot of singles and doubles in these large boundary lines - and that's exactly what Rizwan did today. But then again, he was able to do so, because Bangla had a poor bowling and fielding unit.

Either way you look at it, I think this is our best approach for the world cup. Big ground, focus on singles and doubles because you can't hit sixes and fours. I mean, fours, perhaps you could here n there, but hitting sixes are very hard in these grounds for us.

Our batters cannot, I repeat CANNOT, hit too many sixes in such large boundary lines ... so they are better off by keep taking singles and doubles and hit a four when you can. Nothing much we can do more. We simply don't have the skill to do so.

That is usually the case. They just hand it to the top scorer

Nawaz was brilliant today with the bat

Seems like someone just woke up the MoM adjudicator “oh damn…(yawn)...show me the scorecard…(yaawn)….yea yea that guy top scorer..”

Rizwan didn’t deserve the man of the match today for certain, Nawaz saved his innings today. The NZ commentator was spot on when he said the same on air.

Not a great day for Rizwan, but points to him for staying out there.

It seems most here have started watching cricket today this has been the basic platform of loi chases since 50 years couple of blokes build the foundation and then couple others blast to take the game home sometimes blasting come up front with a Bevan style player carrying it through on other occasions you get sometimes the top order build the platform then a Yuvraj type explosive finisher getting it done.

Bangladesh cricket has been destroyed by some selfish and corrupted people. At best we can hope to compete with Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a lot better side though.

Christchurch, 13 October 2022: Pakistan geared up for Friday’s final against New Zealand with an impressive seven wickets victory over Bangladesh in the final league match of the T20I tri-series in Christchurch on Thursday.

Mohammad Wasim Jnr bowled a splendid last over to pick up two wickets conceding just three runs to restrict Bangladesh to 173 for six. Afterwards, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam produced their eighth century partnership before Mohammad Nawaz sealed the match with a 20-ball cameo as Pakistan romped home for the loss of three wickets with one ball remaining.

Wasim finished with two for 33 though Naseem Shah was the most successful bowler with two for 33. Nawaz picked up one wicket for 27 runs.

Litton Das (69, 42b, 6x4, 2x6) and Shakib Al Hasan (68, 42b, 7x4, 6x3) put on 88 runs in 55 balls for the third wicket after Bangladesh were reduced to 41 for two. Bangladesh collected 41 runs in the four overs between 16-19 before Wasim pulled things in the last over as the Asian neighbours scored 44 runs in the final five overs.

In the run-chase, Mohammad Rizwan scored a 56-ball 69 with four fours, his 22nd career half-century, while Babar Azam struck nine fours in a 40-ball 55, his 29th career half-century. But it was Nawaz who closed the match with a 20-ball 45 that included five fours and a six.

Rizwan and Babar added 101 runs for the first wicket in 76 balls, Rizwan and Nawaz put on 64 runs for the third wicket from 36 balls.

Mohammad Rizwan was adjudged player of the match, his ninth award since February 2021 and ninth overall in 71 matches.

While Pakistan will be content with their third victory in four matches in Christchurch, they must be worried with the continued failure of Haider Ali. Haider had the platform to perform following a century first-wicket partnership, but was dismissed for a second-ball duck. Haider has managed only 24 runs in four matches with 10 not out against New Zealand being his highest.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan beat Bangladesh by seven wickets

Bangladesh 173-6, 20 overs (Litton Das 69, Shakib Al Hasan 68; Naseem Shah 2-27, Mohammad Wasim 2-33)

Pakistan 177-3, 19.5 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 69, Babar Azam 55, Mohammad Nawaz 45 not out; Hasan Mahmud 2-27)

Player of the match – Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan)

Four of the best batters in the world look to be in fine form ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup after they hit half centuries during Pakistan's narrow victory over Bangladesh in Christchurch on Thursday.

Pakistan v Bangladesh, Scorecard
While Pakistan had already booked their spot in the final of the tri-series against New Zealand and Bangladesh had little to play for, both sides were keen to show their wares just days out from the start of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Pakistan stars fire in run chase

It was no surprise to see experienced openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam on song in the victory, with the pair putting on their eighth partnership of 100 or more in T20I cricket to expertly lay the platform for the successful run chase.

Babar (55 off 40 balls) was the aggressor early on, while Rizwan (69 off 56) kept his composure throughout and only fell to Soumya Sarkar in the penultimate over after putting his team in a controlling position.

It was then left to Mohammad Nawaz (45 off 20) to finish the job for Pakistan, with the all-rounder hitting Mohammad Saifuddin to the boundary on the second last ball of the match to seal the seven-wicket triumph.

Same old story for Bangladesh

Litton Das celebrated his 28th birthday in style with a stylish 69, while skipper Shakib Al Hasan (68) also hit an excellent half-century as Bangladesh posted a respectable total of 173/6 after winning the toss and electing to bat first at Hagley Oval.

The main issue was no other batter scored greater than 12, with Das and Shakib contributing 137 runs between them from 84 balls and the rest of their line-up only making 31 runs between them from the remaining six overs.

Shakib knew he left a few runs out there when he was dismissed in the 19th over and took some of the blame for leaving his side a little short.

But Bangladesh have been too reliant on the likes of Das and Shakib for years and need some new names to chip in when the T20 World Cup gets underway next week.

Good signs with the ball for Pakistan

While Nawaz was the star of the show with the bat, the left-armer was wayward with ball in hand as he conceded 37 runs from three costly overs as Das and Shakib took a liking to his slow spinners.

It was instead left to Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim (2/33) to shine with the ball, with the former in particular impressive as he picked up two wickets and gave up just 27 runs from his four overs.

Naseem produced 12 dot balls during his four-over spell and looks to have recovered well from his illness and primed to perform at his best during the T20 World Cup.

Bang are so poor it’s unreal. The Glasgow Rangers of cricket. Making Pak/Liverpool look good…

Nawaz conceded 37 off his 3 overs which probably factored in Rizwan getting MOTM. Still think Nawaz deserves it more

During the press conference after Pakistan's victory over Bangladesh by seven wickets, Babar was asked about dealing with criticism on his captaincy in reference to a viral video in which an anchor-person had discussed his performance.

"I don't know who you are talking about. I don't even know him"

"See, such things happen in every situation, whether you lose or win. We remain ready for such things after a bad performance and it does not bother us"

"We just try to maintain the unity within our team and give players confidence. In every match, we try to give our 100% and win it. Sometimes you aren't up to the mark, and for that, we sit and discuss"

How did Rizwan get a POTM with such a poor performance lol.

Can't believe he batted this long with such a poor SR and only hit 4 boundaries. Good to see Nawaz do what he did vs India as well and Pakistan's script of opening or lower order batsmen helping to win the game continues. Middle order continues to be non-existent.

Pretty mediocre performance from Pakistan despite the win though.

It's just amazing how Rizwan shows absolutely no Intent whatsoever even when it is absolutely must. Either It's selfish or lack of skills. Either way this indicates things are not looking too good for Pakistan in the world cup. If you need Nawaz 45 off 20 balls to bail you out against Bangladesh chasing 170 then things are wrong.

Also it is amazing how people are even surprised with Rizwan's knock. Rizwan is not that great to be honest. He is a typical accumulator who alone can never win you any game because he is a very limited player. The longer he stays at the crease there is more chance of opposition having upper hand.

Its not about middle order, openers and blah blah...Its about putting your best side in to make as many runs as possible.
