What's new

Pakistan (182/7) thrash Afghanistan (116) by 66 runs in the 3rd T20I; Afg win series by a 2-1 margin

I thought najib was hit on the chin? Did he get a concussion?

Thats weird. Icc needs to look into this. If it was not a conssuion how can u substitute

This guy is getting predictable. If he does this to top teams he will be hammered like that odean smith guy who was bowling at 148 kph but getting pummelled at the same time.

He needs a slower ball. Doesn't have it as yet

Easy to forget Rauf was pure fire in 2022. He's been an amazing t20 bowler for us.

I meant it in terms of scaring the opponent with the short ball.

Rauf doesn’t strike fear with his short stuff

In fact, batters are waiting for him to try the short stuff to thump him out of the park

Agreed.

This is the Shoaib Akhtar type scare factor.

Comparing odean smith to Ihsanullah. Like pick a different sport :)

Odean Smith is a medium pacer but you are right about him getting predictable

Smh produce a quality fast bowler first who doesn’t get injured than talk

Why bro? Anyone can have an opinion. He has a fair point. Ihsanullah needs to learn how to vary his pace. He's a top prospect but I can see a top batter getting on top of him on a true wicket

Ihsanullah has to get snapped up in the Big Bash

He will absolutely destroy batsmen there

Agreed.

This is the Shoaib Akhtar type scare factor.

Keep in mind this is Afghanistan. Half a decent batting side, and this might not look as scary. Like, no doubt he's been impressive, but we shouldn't go overboard with praise vs Afghanistan.

Who is they, we talking about Tayyab.

He shouldn’t really be in the side right now. Him and Azam Khan didn’t take their opportunity

Abdullah had a poor series overall but at least in a small sample he has showed what he is capable of

It seems like Naseem Shah will lose his place to Ihsanullah in the regular side, very soon, atleast in T20s

Smh should have gotten them under 100 to send them a message that they are still a long way to go

If Wahab Riaz can raffle a great Aussie side with proper short stuff in the 2015wc, I recon Ihsan could do it too if he learns how to bowl it against the good teams too.

After a long, long time we have a pace bowler who carries some fear factor and doesn’t depend on the ball swinging in the first over

Its all about balance of the team which was kind of right if not perfect..first game faheem didnt even get a bowl..naseem shud never have played 2 matches ..uncle ifti shud have played all seris as can bowl and bat

If only Pakistan can find one more seamer who is 6ft 4+ and bowls 145+

3 seamers like Shaheen, Ihsanullah and another one. Then we are going to be a scary bowling attack let alone a good one

How many times did Wahab do that in his career? Once?

Just saying bowling against Afghanistan and bowling against a top team; the gap is significant. So, while all this is very exciting, the challenge isn't too diificult for Ihsan here.

Exactly, and Azam Khan should have not gotten a game, should have not been selected in the first place.

Yup top teams don't get scared by pace. Also Sharjah is two paced so his bouncers get very deadly.

No way anyone in the world was saying that before the series started.

I was, fitness is everything, dont care if he can hit big shots, his wicket keeping, and fielding will cost you, and his batting what batting, was not able to do anything. Until he loses a lot of weight, he should not be considered your playing international cricket, their should be a fitness standard.

Pakistan would’ve won the series if wickets were like this in all 3 matches.

Wickets which are spin friendly and low scoring matches are favourable for Afghanistan their weakness is exposed in high scoring matches.

Top teams don’t but individuals can if it’s a lively wicket

Imagine facing Brett Lee on one of those South African decks. It’s putting your life on the line

Afghan's didn't have the same intensity as the first two games. However first time they faced scoreboard pressure and they wilted.

Naseem is a different beast with the new ball in odi’s

Shaheen, naseem and ihsan should play together.

Naseem will be gone if a 3rd seamer of proper height and pace gets his act together

Hasnain has bags of potential, he’s not getting his head right

Lol odean smith was getting pummeled in the psl. He is a trundler. Ihsan clocks 150k.
Odean only gets up to 145 on ipl speed guns.

Hasnain has regressed even more and is currently bowling medium pace. Naseem has the best record in the two longer formats for pak in the last couple of years.

Well, Naseem needs to realise things change pretty fast for bowlers at least in the Pakistan cricket team. Look at Hassan Ali now

Rashid Khan, Afghanistan captain: Special occasion to be part of this team, it was a great effort from everyone. We won the series, but we have areas to improve on. It was a great learning for us. We responded well under pressure, we have struggled under pressure in the past. Happy that we chased in a couple of games, it was difficult to bat. But we need to work on a lot of areas in the future. This was a much better wicket than the first two games. I felt 10 an over was gettable on this wicket. But the run-out and Najib got hurt, and we lost wickets in the middle. Any series after this is a good preparation for us before the World Cup. Every game teaches us and the youngsters are going to be much better (in the upcoming games).

Mohammad Nabi, Player of the Series: First two games were played in tough conditions, back to form after a long time. I tried to give my best while bowling and batting. It wasn't a proper call and wasn't a good decision to take the second run (that resulted in the run-out).

Shadab Khan, Player of the Match: We wanted to finish on a high note and we have done that. We had to adapt the conditions and the batters managed to do that today. We needed to play for Pakistan's pride and we did it. The main motive of this series was to give the youngsters a chance, hopefully they will get confidence from these games and it will help them in the long run.

Naseem needs to get his act together pretty soon… his focus is not on pace and has lost his strength as new ball bowler.. also getting too defensive rather than being a strike/ wicket taking option.. if Ihsanullah keeps on performing like this.. he will most probably replace Naseem and not Rauf

An all-round performance from captain Shadab Khan led Pakistan to a 66-run win over Afghanistan in the third T20I of the three-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday evening.

This was Pakistan’s first win in the T20I series as Afghanistan had already taken an unassailable lead in the series by winning the first and second T20Is by six and seven wickets, respectively.

After being asked to bat, Pakistan put up a commanding 182 for seven in their allotted 20 overs courtesy 49 off 40 balls from young opening batter Saim Ayub and cameos from Shadab (28, 17b, 5x4s) and Iftikhar Ahmed (31, 25b, 2x6s).

The 20-year old Saim playing his first international series struck four fours and two sixes at the strike-rate of 122.5. Middle-order batter Iftikhar – replacing Azam Khan in today’s game and also playing for the first time in the series added valuable 38 runs with Shadab for the sixth wicket which helped the side to post a match winning total.

The right-handed Abdullah Shafique was also amongst the runs today as the 23-year old scored a 13-ball 23, smashing two sixes and one four.

For Afghanistan, Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman bagged two wickets for 28 runs from his four overs.

Chasing 183 to win, Afghanistan batters for the first time in the series were never allowed to settle in by the Pakistan’s bowlers as the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 116 in the 19th over.

Azmatullah Omarzai, who came in as a concussion substitute for Najibullah Zadran (who was struck by Ihsanullah rising ball in the 11th over of the innings) top-scored for his side with a 20-ball 21, hitting two fours and a six.

For Pakistan, young fast bowler Ihsanullah and captain Shadab bagged three wickets apiece. The leg-spinner Shadab playing his 87th T20I, also became the first Pakistan bowler to take 100 wickets in this format. He achieved the feat by dismissing Usman Ghani in the 12th over of the innings.

Pakistan’s team next assignment is against New Zealand, where they will feature in a white-ball series at home starting from 14 April.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan beat Afghanistan by 66 runs

Pakistan 182-7,20 overs (Saim Ayub 49, Iftikhar Ahmed 31, Shadab Khan 28, Abdullah Shafique 23; Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman 2-28)

Afghanistan 116 all out, 18.4 overs (Azmatullah Omarzai 21, Rahmanullah Gurbaz 18; Shadab Khan 3-13, Ihsanullah 3-29)

Player of the match – Shadab Khan (Pakistan)

Afghani players have high averages and strike rates because a lot have played associate cricket. Let's filter the stats and see how good Gurbaz really is.

It's not just the stats, when you watch him live, he's just so easy on the eye and looks very dangerous.

Shadab Khan with his end of series comments:

“It was an honour for me to lead the Pakistan team. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win the series but we have an exciting bunch of youngsters who have the ability to become the stars of the future"

“There was some nervousness I think in the first couple of matches but the players adapted to the conditions quickly and bounced back in the third game.

“No matter what the situation is, my demand from the players is to have a never give up attitude. They should an outstanding fight in the first two matches and that is exactly what I wanted to see.”

“I’m sure that the players will learn from this series and improve their game awareness. Considering the kind of talent and attitude they have, these players will perform better in the future"

“Ihsanullah is a good addition to the Pakistan pace battery bearing in the mind the fact that we already have the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah. This is an exciting time for Pakistan cricket"

Clearly no praise for Saim Ayub

I wonder why

Clearly no praise for Saim Ayub

I wonder why

He made a generic statement on youngsters.

Fact is that Saim messed up in 2 games and we couldn't get to a good score.

Ihsanullah performed well throughout.

Nothing to make a big deal out of.

Saim is there to stay but he needs to be better than Haider Ali. That's all there is to it.
