What's new

Pakistan (198/5) thrash Australia (108) by 90 runs in second T20I to seal 2-0 series win

The debate around actions is silly.

They should have technology like they have in BBL that shows the bend in the elbow every ball. If anyone exceeds that, they should just call it a no-ball there and then at the spot.

The pause in the action is a non-issue. It's not that he pauses before some deliveries while for others he doesn't. His pause is a constant part of his bowling.
Disagree about the pausing bit. What does it matter whether the pausing is occasional or regular?

It is not written anywhere that you need to bowl with the same action for every ball.

ICC has to either allow all pausing or completely disallow it.

So far, they have allowed it to be a grey area and they have dealt with it on a case by case basis.

But that's not fair imo.

Bending of arm is not an issue. Straightening is. And his action has been cleared twice.

There have been many bowlers with annoying actions. They were allowed to continue. Guys like Paul Adams, Malinga, Pathirana, Kedhar Jadav etc.

Banning Usman for this would be farcical.
It's less his actions but this pause could be deemed distracting for international players who are in the zone as soon as bowler run up begins.
Can you imagine him bowling to a fidgety batsman like Steve Smith?

If ICC has cleared him then it's the batsman's issue to deal with but I can understand why they may be frustrated.

Salman Ali Agha, Pakistan Captain & Player of the Match:

It has to be a perfect game. We batted well in the powerplay and middle and we were outstanding with the ball. Fielding was outstanding. I can easily say it was a perfect game for us and we want to replicate it tomorrow. That's why I promoted myself at No. 3 because I know I can play spin well and intend to do the same in Sri Lanka. (On Usman Khan's knock) We know he is a very good player of spin bowling, probably the best player in our team against spin. We knew his ability and we know it's going to come soon. Hope he plays in the same way. We want to continue to play in the same way and I want the same from my team.... to forget the 2-0 and come again (play in the same fashion). Hopefully we can come and entertain the Lahore crowd again tomorrow.

Yeah agreed.

They have cleared his action which probably shouldn't have been tested coz it's clean as a whistle but have been kinda silent on the pause.

I suspect we may see a rule change
/Update soon.

I'm all for it, adds a bit of mystery despite being annoying, but it's an issue that needs to be settled quickly to stop batsmen calling him out mid game.

If BICC has cleared the action, then I guess only “privileged whining” kinds have the right to protest while batting. The rest will have to shut up or face fines.

Batters being distracted is not a valid reason to prevent a bowler from bowling.

There are many batters with distracting batting stances too (Chanderpaul, Fawad Alam, Steven Smith etc.).

I hope Usman will not be banned because he adds to the variety.

Yeah, his action was never in doubt. I pointed out in his thread even before he went for testing that his action was clean

It was always about that pause. ICC have warned bowlers in the past about pausing.

It would look very bad if they randomly start allowing some bowlers to pause now.

They should clarify it once and for all

From what I understand the pause rule is that you can't do it randomly when you feel like it. In his case he has the same pause with every delivery he bowls so you could argue that it's a part of his action

Yeah I know. I just don't think that's a good rule. Bowlers change their actions within a match . Heck they are even allowed to bowl with different arms within an over.

I don't think pausing should be an exception .

For me it's one of those things that either should be completely allowed so that bowlers can choose to pause whenever they want or completely banned.

Just my 2 cents.

Fair enough

Faheem Ashraf has a free pass in this team

Imagine hiring a guy for handsome salary and tell him you are not needed unless i do not show up to work. In Modern Cricket , thats a free pass unheard of

Missed the match unfortunately but love the performance. AGHA JANIII!!!

I just hope PCT delivers when it actually matters.... Otherwise Aussies have been dominating them in ICC events for long

Pakistan is looking very good despite passengers.

We could see in the Asia Cup there was something happening with this team. I still think we're not there yet but when some of the U19 boys mature we will be back.
