What's new

Pakistan (207) defeat UAE (176/8) comfortably by 31 runs to register their second win of the UAE Tri-Nation series 2025

Shouldn't draw too many conclusions from this series. Sharjah wicket is much flatter than Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is probably the most sluggish surface of all and very conducive to spin. Neither Dubai or Abu Dhabi are the types of pitches where teams will be scoring 200 that often.
We scored 200 because its UAE.

Dubai's wicket is not too different from Sharjah. Dubai has larger boundaries.

Playing Abbas addresses multiple gaps in the team: 1) he is a wicket taker 2) he is a death bowler 3) he is as good as Faheem with the bat.
Its amazing how poorly they planned when it comes to death bowling. Only Rauf and Wasim are death bowling options. Rauf's performance can be feast or famine. While Wasim hasn't played for 1.5 years. Shaheen has completely forgotten how to bowl at the death and always gets plundered

Death bowling is a real problem for Pakistan in the limited overs format. You can't win many games when your bowlers routinely go at 10-15 runs per over in the last 5-10 overs.

Shaheen was never a death bowler. Haris is too unreliable. Naseem in good form was a viable option but not now. Which is why it is all the more important that Wasim and Abbas should have been playing here instead of these two roti gang clowns.

The bowling in the last ten overs was poor. Sufiyan seems to have similar issues to Shaheen, where he loses the plot once a batter gets on top of him.

Not satisfied with the bowling performance. It should have been a more emphatic win.

Batting also looks sketchy. We will know more 'kitne paani mein hein' when they are up against superior bowlers (and fielders)

Players shared following thoughts in post-match presentation:

Salman Ali Agha:
Perfect batting effort. Last five overs in the bowling we need to work. We have been working on our death bowling. Hasan Nawaz is a generational talent. He is one for the future. He needs to keep working hard. We conceded too many in the last 5 overs. We need to do better in the next game. I want my team to play an aggressive brand of cricket.

Muhammad Waseem: Was a good game. We gave 15-20 runs extra. Asif has calibre. We were confident he will play like this. We needed someone to score 30-40 runs in the middle overs for us. I think we did well in the powerplay. But gave too many post that. We will try our best in the next game.

Saim Ayub, Player of the Match: Different players are performing in different games. Good for the team. I don't like individual awards, feel it is over-rated. It is a team game. It is all about execution. I am working on my bowling with the coach. Getting better. It is challenging in T20s. You need to believe in your thought process.

Hassan Nawaz shared following thoughts in post match press conference today:

:

Confidence and Team Combination

"There are really good teams here. The UAE team, in particular, is used to these conditions, and Afghanistan is, in my opinion, the best team right now. The pitch is turning, which is great. There's a lot of confidence within our team, and our combination is working very well."

Team Plans and Performance

"My thinking is that we're now aiming for long-term goals. There's not much time to set up for this tournament, so our plan was to score over 200 runs. I'm going to stick to that plan."

On Team Hard Work and Responsibility

"The team is in safe hands, and that's how we need to look at it sometimes. Of course, you and all the young players are working incredibly hard. This season, I feel it's the best Pakistan T20 team we've had. The rest is in your hands—you can only control your hard work, not the final result. That's something we all do."

On Disappointments and Game Decisions

"There has been disappointment. But that's just part of the game. Sometimes you make a good decision; other times, it goes wrong. The issue is that you know you should have taken a review, but now that's not an option."

On Player Performance and Bowling

"I think he's having the best time of his life. I've been watching his innings, and he's also a first-class cricketer of mine."

On Bench Strength and Bowling Challenges

"I don't see this as a matter of bench strength. All of our players are equally talented. You can't say that Hasan Ali is a bench player—he's a very senior player. Sometimes you perform well, and sometimes it's just not your day. If he's a bowler, it doesn't mean that he is now a bad bowler."

On Match Strategy

"It was on this exact pitch. So the plan was to win the toss and bat first. We have a lot of examples of this strategy working well."

On Modern Cricket Approach

"We, along with our coach, have the same plan: to play cricket in the same aggressive way that other countries are playing now."

On Batting Order Flexibility

"Now I don't care what my batting number is. I'll bat wherever the team needs me. When I come here, I don't even know what my number is. I just go wherever the team tells me."

This bowling attack is just poor. Most good teams will score easily against them.

Batters atleast have the right intent, even if it doesn't always come off. But I just don't see this bowling attack, on current form, troubling top teams.

Yeah but he was still a wicket taker at the death. Now, every time he comes on, he gets plundered

UAE did more than what they were supposed to if we think about it... our bowlers made a mess TBH.. Hassan was pathetic

Strange things happen when the tail is up. Despite the defeat, UAE walked away with confidence and now carry that fearless attitude into the next game with nothing to lose. Afghanistan’s pride is on the line, and like Pakistan, they have a tendency to crumble under pressure

No 7 is not suiting Haris at all. Dont know why he isnt playing at no 3 and Fakhar at no 4.

History shows no 4 is Fakhar's best position in t20 and no 3 is haris best position.
Fakhar should bat even below 4.
Agha and fakhar at 5 and 6 is best we can have atm
Give haris no 3 if u want him to play. He can't slog old ball but fauji can.

UAE beat New Zealand in a T20I a couple of years ago and beat Bangladesh in a series just recently. They are no mucks and can surprise teams on their day. Their captain Muhammad Waseem in particular is a very good player who would fit-in perfectly in some of the top T20 leagues in the world. Bowling admittedly is very weak but in this format anyone can have a good day every now and then.

I wasn't aware of that. That's impressive from UAE.
Some of their players are decent in ILT20 too

Waseem
Sharafu
Asif Khan
Junaid Siddique
The left arm seamer who looks like a waiter at some restaurant in Tooting
Haider Ali

all decent players

Fakhar, Agha and Hasan Nawaz should all be makeshift and should shuffle depending on the situation.

But hasan Nawaz should be first priority if the openers and no 3 are off to a good start.
