Pakistan (212/8) crash out of T20 World Cup 2026 after a narrow 5-run consolation win against Sri Lanka (207/6) in their last Super Eight clash

Rameez reminding the dreadful captain it’s a 13 over game for you in other words don’t play for yourselves to secure your places.

Teams:
Pakistan (Playing XI): Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Salman Agha(c), Khawaja Nafay, Usman Khan(w), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed, Usman Tariq

Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara(w), Charith Asalanka, Pavan Rathnayake, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka(c), Janith Liyanage, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka

Stupid to drop Saim today . Today he could have hit out and bowl also . Batting looks very thin again .
Batting looks strong, for the first time, we can bat all the way down to Naseem, so no worries there.

It is better to bat first.

If you post 200 then Sri Lanka will have to attack in the run chase.

More chance of getting wickets as run rate pressure will apply.

If you bowl first and get early wickets, Sri Lanka would try to rebuild and aim for 150, making it much harder.

Maybe you’re right. But chasing in 13 overs seems way harder than beating by 67 runs.
That’s true, but if you are preparing for such a margin chasing looked the better option.

Anyhow, not in our hands now so we have to make do with what we can do best. You are right in a sense that for a mediocre team like Pakistan, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Strong from where ? After Fakhar Farhan there is no one . Unless you think Shadab and Nawaz will save you

Babar dropped? @Rana be like: :yk :inti

only chance was bowling first and restricting SL around 150-160 Thats gone now

Pak need Minimum 220 batting Firsr and it aint happeninh
If you score 160 in 13 overs, that translates at the same run rate 246 runs for 20 overs. And tbh most innings tend to accelerate in later stages, so probably harder to have that rate over 13 overs than 20.

We pretty much have to bat like we’re batting over 200 either way.

220 is the magic number. If Pakistan can reach that then our bowlers can bowl Sri Lanka cheaply.

But I think this is the most difficult situation of all. Here's why;

- Pitch will offer assistance to seamers early on.
- Bounce will be variable.
- Dew will assist the batters in 2nd innings.
- Sri Lanka are playing a long batting with Liyanage. They can be sure to come close any target.
- Faheem would've fared well as an all rounder on this pitch.

They struggle to even make 50 runs in the first 6 overs :ROFLMAO:
because they are reluctant. afraid to get out . when you go for it with freedom , there is 59 50 chance it can happen. i think we have watched enough of cricket to see things like that unfold. but anyways Pak aint chasing so no point

I think they were expecting to chase (expecting sri lanka to bat first), in which case they needed to bat only 13.4 overs and didn't need that many batsmen.

Now they have to bat 20 overs full.

Playing 13 overs in total and 20 makes a difference

Think about T10 league. why they regulary make 130

Kind of get why they dropped Saim. They knew they weren’t going to open with him. And under this pressure situation, expecting an opener to suddenly adapt to no.3, middle order is a tough ask for a youngster. Nafay, usman etc already expect that they’re playing middle order.

Probably still would have played Saim, bowling alone and we have few other batsmen. But I kind of get it. And really fakhar had to open.

Bat normally and look to have a 60+ runs powerplay with wickets in hand. If Pakistan can they do. They will be on track for a 220.

Sri Lanka are playing a bowler short as well.

I have more hope with Fakhar than Saim.

when you have to chase 150 in 13 it means you can go all out without worrying about playing 20 overs. This happened last month on Lanka tour during 3rd t20I.
Yeah but Sri Lankans have twice self destructed chasing 150 plus scores, making one below hundred and another just above hundred...so this is the best chance we will get
