What's new

Pakistan [214/1] cruise to a 9-wicket victory over Australia [210] in 3rd ODI; take series 2-1

Another good thing is that with the performance of Wasim Jnr in this and last match, and with Dahani waiting in the wings, this should be the last we see of Hassan Ali in international colours (though wish him the best and hope he finds form in the domestics)...

58 runs to get, Babar needs 26 for a century while Imam needs 40.

Wonder if one of them will start farming the strike to get theirs :)))

What is the calculation for winning the SUV?

I still believe we should have won the first game as well.

Babar and Imam were both well set when Babar suddenly tried to play a sweep off a full ball, a shot he plays very rarely.

His dismissial, along with a huge lack of intent meant that we eventually messed up a game we could have won.

That’s fair point first two matches were close, Asu cracked here though, congratulations to PCT wel deserved ODI series win.

Pakistan Cricket should flourish and do well with more and more home cricket against all sides. The value of frequently playing at home cannot be underestimated.

I always stated Pakistan odi team is good they just need to fill 2-3 positions.

Probably a good thing one of The Pakistanis will win the player of the match SUV, i imagine the import tax for cars to Australia isn't very favourable.

Carey attempting some pathetic sledging by himself, with the rest of the team silent :)))

Absolutely Pakistan missed so many records and chance to develop players in home conditions to gain confidence and then perform in away tours as well.

Babar is close to his 16th ODI century.

He is not far from Saeed Anwar's record of 20 ODI centuries (most by a Pakistani in ODI).

Fully agree. That's how it works.
Our players have been through a lot hopefully not anymore

Unfortunately Tabdeeli did not last in Pakistani politics but lets hope it will in Pakistani cricket.

It would be hilarious if Imam went ballistic and hit the 21 runs himself.

excellent 100 by Babar, clinical batting and bowling from pakistan today. They should be happy with series win.

Incredible stuff from Babar and Imam. Great series win for Pakistan and hopefully this will start erasing away some of the Australian demons going forward.

Ramiz looks absolutely devastated...and understandably so. He's lead PCB with so much passion and sincerity, only to see his stint cut short.

Very sad

The 20 year streak finally over. Pakistan beat Australia in an ODI series !

Some saying we would be 6 or 7 down chasing this...we did it with the loss of just one wicket without breaking a sweat....

Congratulations, Pakistan.

First ODI series win over Australia since 2002.

Well played.

Imam should have gone for the 100

I’m a huge Babar fan but I think he told imam he wanted the hundred and selfishly kept the strike during that period when they had similar scores. You could tell imaam had slowed down.
I think a true leader would let his team members get the hundred before themselves. Selfish

Congratulations to Pakistan. What a performance by King Babar.

Can't see ppers who said this would one of many series losses at home for Pakistan. Get well soon.

I think there was deal, you take jeep I take century :D

Remarkable turnaround after the heavy loss in the 1st game, Aus must be shocked to lose this series..

Two emphatic wins, 1 by 6 wickets and next one by 9 wickets and 12 overs to spare...

Great series win

Is it confirmed or just a rumor at this point?

Many Congratulations to Pakistan team. Honestly after the last test defeat and the 1st ODI, I thought this team is good for nothing, but boy they have comeback just like how Pakistan comes back. Down in the dumps one day, right up at the top the next day.

Finally some reprieve for Pakistan a dominant performance after a long time ⌛ Babar aced it like any world class player Michael Jordan LeBron James Shaquil O'Neil

It looks like a flawed league Ireland, Bangladesh, Srilanka have played 18 games each and only Bangladesh have 12 wins.. Ireland and Srilanka have lost more games than SA,NZL and PAK..

NZL who never lost a game is at 8th position, which genius made this table...I think the table should have win/loss ratio percentage to decide who leads the table

POTM should have been a bowler. Not anything away from Baber but it was an wasy target, without any pressure.

Brilliant series win. Have to say that we are now kinda getting used to dominating batting performances. Only this time its Imam instead of Rizwan partnering with Babar.

Babar Azam, Man of the Match and Man of the Series: We will take the car for a round or two (smiles). You need confidence after losing the first game. The credit goes to the players as they took responsibility and showed good efforts with the ball and the bat. When you get early wickets, there is pressure on the opposition. Almost every bowler of ours executed their plans. There is pressure but you should your game. I try to take most of the pressure and back my boys.

Aaron Finch: When you three down, you can't do much. We tried to different thing but two guys showed their class. We wanted to keep attacking. We wanted to get 260 or 270 but took too many risks. Travis and Ben played well throughout. Adam Zampa was excellent all throughout. It has been amazing here to play in Pakistan in front of some great fans.

Imam-ul-Haq: The way boys came back from the first match comes down to the self-belief and trust we have in each other. I'm a mature player now. Working hard from last one and a half year. Thanks to Babar - he's my best friend and we help each other. Fakhar got out early and we knew we are in good form - me and Babar. Wasn't a big target. Just wanted to stay calm and punish the loose balls. I respect everyone. The thing which I have changed myself is I only look to control what I control (response to critics?).

“My whole focus was on Pakistan winning the series, not on my century"

“It is satisfying that Pakistan won a [bilateral ODI] series against Australia after a long time"

“There is nothing new. I played in my own style. Thankfully, I have got my form back and am maintaining it"

“I don’t want to give any answer to the critics. They all are my brothers and Pakistanis"

“Babar and I are good friends and this friendship helps a lot in the field as we have a firm belief in each other and in our abilities"

==

Babar Azam:

"We all enjoy taking on the pressure but I do try and keep myself as calm as possible during such times; I know that my team relies on me and I do try and make sure that I take as much pressure on myself to ease things for the team; I always back them completely and the results that we get because of that are in front of everyone and its a matter of great satisfaction for me"

Aaron Finch:

"Its been amazing to play here in Pakistan in front of some great fans, they have been very supportive of some great cricket regardless of whether Australia or Pakistan are playing well, so we are very thankful to them"

Flawless performance today.

Cricket at home is unmatchable and as have mentioned multiple times people used to underestimate the impact of no cricket at home for Pakistan for around a decade.

With cricket back, you are gonna see more stars develop as performing at home against other teams is where you get that extra confidence, improvement in stats and overall that feeling of belonging at the level. Thats how it has been for every star we have seen of any team in throughout the history.

Great series win. Just feels great finally seeing them beat the Aussies inna series after 20 years. Thought I would never see it again at this rate.

Babar Azam (105*) and Imam-ul-Haq (89*) helped Pakistan beat Australia by nine wickets in Lahore to take the series 2-1, after a brilliant bowling performance helped them bowl out the visitors for 210.

The victory meant Pakistan jumped to eighth in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League table, leapfrogging New Zealand, with 60 points. Australia remain on fourth of the 13-team table, with 70 points after twelve matches.

RANKINGS UPDATE

With the win, Pakistan gained two rating points, maintaining their sixth position on the table with 97 points. Australia, managed to hold on to their third position, but are now only two ahead of the fourth-placed India with 112 rating points.

MATCH SUMMARY

Toss: Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first

Put into bat, Australia were rocked early, being 0/2 at one stage. Pakistan picked up wickets at regular intervals before Alex Carey's solid half-century steadied the ship for Australia. His wicket though would lead to a mini-collapse for the visitors, before Sean Abbott's brilliant 49 helped them to a score of 210. For the hosts, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim collected three wickets each.

Despite losing Fakhar Zaman relatively early, Pakistan then cruised home in the chase courtesy of a mammoth 190-run partnership between skipper Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq. Babar scored the 16th ton of his ODI career while Imam notched up a serene fifty, as Pakistan emerged as 2-1 series victors.

Player of the Match: Babar Azam

NEXT UP

The two sides will now compete in a one-off T20I in Lahore on April 5. The match will be a massive opportunity for both sides as preparations heat up for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.
