Revealing details of actions taken against Army officials following the May 9 riots on Monday, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj-Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry said that three officials including a Lt-Gen have been fired, whereas disciplinary proceedings against other officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers, have been completed.

The spokesperson said that the events of May 9 were "undoubtedly" a conspiracy against Pakistan and one which was being planned for months.

The military spokesperson stated that the purpose of addressing the media today was to provide "facts" regarding the events of May 9. Riots broke out after the arrest of the PTI chief, with rioters targetting military facilities and monuments dedicated to the martyrs.

During the press conference, Maj Gen Sharif also played a video montage with testimonies from family members of the martyrs.

"The incident of May 9 is extremely disappointing, condemnable and a black chapter in the history of our country," said the spokesperson and added that what the enemies of the country could not achieve in 76 years, some "miscreants and their facilitators did".

He also said that the incident was “undoubtedly a conspiracy against Pakistan”. "The events of May 9 will neither be forgotten nor will planners and facilitators of it be forgiven."

"The investigation carried out till now has proven that May 9 was being planned for the past several months," elaborated the major-general and added that "under this planning, first a conducive environment was created and people were instigated and provoked against the army".

He further said a "narrative based on lies and exaggeration was spread on social media inside and outside the country" and authorities have obtained evidence for the same.

DG ISPR further said that the events of May 9 created a huge amount of grief and anger among the heirs of the martyrs and veterans of the armed forces. He maintained that the armed forces were laying martyrs to rest every day while operations continue against terrorists.

“While the Pakistan Army is giving these sacrifices, on the other hand, unfortunately, filthy propaganda was done on the basis of a false narrative for nefarious political objectives.”

'Deliberate accountability process'

"The decisions taken by the Pakistan Army reflect unity and clarity. After May 9, the press release issued on May 15 regarding the Special Core Commanders Conference, the message given on Martyrs Day on May 25 and the press release issued on June 7 of the 81st Formation Commanders’ Conference stand as evidence that the military leadership and the Pakistan Army are both aware of those involved in May 9 riots."

"All those responsible and associated with May 9 incidents will be punished under the Constitution of Pakistan and under the law regardless of their affiliation with any institution, political party, or any individual," he added.

Revealing details regarding punishments meted out to military officers who failed in their duties on May 9, Maj-Gen Sharif said one three-star officer - a lieutenant general - has been terminated from service.

"From punishments handed out, you may believe that the military does not discriminate when holding accountable its own." He added that inquiry commissions, headed by major-general rank officers, were carried out following the events of May 9.

"Following a deliberate accountability process, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against those who failed to maintain the security and honour of military garrisons, installations, Jinnah House and General Headquarters."

"Three officers, including a lieutenant-general, have been fired and disciplinary proceedings against other officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers, have been completed."

Referring to trials in military courts, Sharif said those being tried will have the right of appeal in the apex court. "As of now, cases under the Army Act are under military court, which were already in existence. At least 102 persons are under trial and this process is currently ongoing."

"There are 17 standing courts currently operational in the country. Military courts have been operational under the Army Act since before May 9. Based on evidence and the law, civil courts referred these 102 cases to military courts. All of these accused have complete rights under the law, including appointing civil lawyers and the right to appeal before the high courts and the Supreme Court. The Army Act has been a part of the Constitution of Pakistan and the law for several decades. Several cases have been resolved under this Act under the law," stated the military spokesperson.

Sharif further said that the International Court of Justice has also validated the due process carried out by military courts after a thorough probe.

"Anyone may build a false narrative [against military courts] but they cannot deny these facts."

"This information should assure you that the self-accountability within the Pakistan Army is carried out without discrimination. The higher the rank, the higher the responsibility is expected. Let me inform you that when it comes to accountability by the army, there is no distinction held based on rank or position in society."

He reiterated that everyone who was involved in the events of May 9 will be held accountable. "A granddaughter of a retired four-star general and the son-in-law of another four-star general are also in military custody," said DG ISPR.

Answering a question if the military was somehow involved in the events of May 9 itself, the spokesperson said "CCTV footage, audio recordings and statements given by suspected involved persons make apparent that army installations were targeted and attacked on May 9 under a devised plan".

"I ask you, did the Pakistan Army build this narrative against itself? Within hours of being arrested, over 200 military installations were attacked across the country."

The respect and integrity of the Pakistan Army have been attacked under a disgusting plan but despite this, security forces carried out major and minor intelligence-based operations against 13,619 terrorists and their facilitators this year. As many as 1,132 terrorists were sent on their way to hell or arrested during these operations, said Maj Gen Sharif.

I suspect there was a coup attempt?

From the presser, it is confirmed that Khan will languish in jail and will probably die in jail. This presser was scary and the military reaffirmed its resolve to punish all those involved.

On a side note, former boss current army chief Asim, COAS Jahangir Karamat, who resides in the US and telephoned Munir and asked him to be lenient towards Khatija Shah as she was the niece of a former COAS Janjua. However, Munir told J Karamat bluntly and rudely that he will punish all those involved in May 9 riots and the call ended on a very bitter note.

This shows that the military will not spare anyone; including their own. Bad sign for Khan.

The voldemorts have a habit of creating alibis, pre-events and then take actions based on it to satisfy their hypocritical agenda.

Unprecedented. Goes to show how far Imran crossed the line in army's view.

It absolutely doesn’t matter if IK has support on ground, the entire Pakistani awam has been silenced easily by the Establishment.

Some of you think you can come on PP and write what you like.

Don't test our patience.

Sad but true… partly. The swan is not entirely silenced. Just because they are quiet does not mean they have accepted the intended military establishment programming.

There is a lot of simmering frustration and anger right now. It will boil over sooner or later.

It should this is a joke, they are making sure IK cannot stand in the election.
I don’t see him winning even if he stands due to Establishment interference.

How true is this story about Khadija Shah?

She is an American citizen. So i guess Americans will get involved as well.

doesnt matter, she violated the law and needs to be punished. Im glad that people like her were not allowed a free hand.

Anyways, ISPR has already said that there will be two appeals for these guys. 1 in high court and 1 in supreme court.

If any one is going to try American citizens in a military court, there will be issues.

naaaa, As long as she has Pakistani nationality and violated Pakistani law she will be dealt with military court.

We had a killer whow as dual national with American nationality but he was dealt with civilian court.

Military court isn't something illegals, it exists worldwide, its just the application of it that is issue for some. However, ISPR already said that everyone will have 2 rights to appeal. One in high court and one in supreme court. Thus, proper system is being adopted

Embarrassing for the armed forces. Not clear what the charges were?

Zardari played an evil and filthy role in getting Raymond Davis, a US citizen who killed two locals, out of Pakistan. Read ‘ The Contracter’ by Raymond Davis to find out the ugly face of Zardari.

Zardari played a poodle to the US in getting a convicted killer released. Sick man!

I hope all US citizen were treated equally.

The US cares less about dual nationals. We have seem this in the early 2010s when the whole of US government machinery swing into action to get Raymond Davis out of Pakistan. RD was a proper US citizen.

I think there is a much much bigger point here that seems to have gone amiss with almost all. It does not matter if you are an Imran Khan supporter, or PTI worker or someone who favors the pro establishment conglomerate of parties (PDM), the way this was handled it has become very very clear to everyone that the military mafia is absolutely ruthless and uncompromising when it comes to running the country. they will flout all regulations and acceptable norms and standards and nothing is holy to them. not people, not liberties, not courts, consitutions, you name it. I know the PML-N supporters are rejoicing but i know quite a few are worried deep inside that if SS cannot pull us out of the bad economic situation (saving from default would not mean we are out of the woods) the military mafia or MM are going to turn on PML-N and this time it will be pretty bad, so bad that the sharif dynasty might be over. They will probably install Billo as the PM and put PPP in charge with the help of other lotas and new parties and factions they will help create.

Their treachery and manipulation is now becoming very very clear to Pakistanis. They used to have immense respect, support and were the untouchables of Pakistan and now their rep is in tatters. People have an all time low opinion of them and because they never had to deal with this before, they dont know what to do. Their ISPR department keeps making cartoonish statements and press conferences, its become a butt of jokes.

So the MM can make them stay quiet through force but the people are actually seeing their true face for the first time with clarity and these people include supporters of all parties across the spectrum.

so far there is zero evidence to suggest they have differing standards for dual or naturalized nationals. They always jump in and protect their people.

I think you might have confused US with UK and that ISIS bride affair where they basically told a british born person she was not british and told her to eff off to Bangladesh. LOL.

umm i have read the contractor, it was the ISI that got him out not Zardari. He kept mentioning them in the book.

This pti supporter is not an American contractor for gods sake.

Have you read the part where RD says that President Zardari told the embassy to backdate certain documents and change RD’s status to a diplomat or some other govt functionary so that he gets immunity?

The comparison is valid because RD killed two guys while this PTI supporter did not. Yet, RD was served burgers in prison and DG ISI went out of his way to ensure his wellbeing.

Army officers to take charge of Pims, Polyclinic hospitals in Islamabad
• Senior Pims official terms move ‘unfortunate’, says it will force doctors to quit
• Ministry official says decision will address administrative issues faced by hospitals

ISLAMABAD: Amid reservations expressed by doctors who termed the move ‘unfortunate’, the caretaker government has decided to appoint serving officers of the Pakistan Army Medical Corps as the heads of the two largest state-run hospitals in Islamabad – the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and Polyclinic – on deputation for three years.

However, the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) Sajid Shah said the decision was taken in the “best interest of the patients and health sector”, which would “streamline and address all the issues of the hospitals”.

A letter from the health ministry sent to the defence ministry said that the posts of the executive director in Pims and Polyclinic were vacant due to the non-availability of eligible officers from the feeding cadre for promotion to the ED. It stated that because of the “importance it cannot be left out to function without qualified heads of the institutions”.

“In order to ensure effective health care service delivery for the public at large in ICT, it has been desired to fill the posts on secondment basis from Pakistan Army Medical Corps as an interim arrangement,” it added.

“...It is, therefore, requested to convey the availability / spareability of qualified and capable hospital managers of equivalent grade i.e. BS-21 from Pakistan Army Medical Corps for posting as ED Pims and FGPC (BS-21) on deputation basis for a period of three years and until further orders under standard terms and conditions,” it stated.

A senior officer of the health ministry, on the condition of anonymity, said that the appointment of serving army officers would address most of the issues of the hospital.

“Unfortunately almost 80pc of the senior doctors do not come to the hospital on time and the same is the situation regarding the junior doctors and paramedics. We receive tens of complaints, on a daily basis, about the attitude and absence of the staff of both hospitals,” the official said, adding that “only an army officer will be able to enforce discipline and best possible treatment” at these hospitals.

He alleged that doctors at both hospitals were running “labs, MRI and other radiological test machines and force patients to get them tested from outside the hospital at testing facilities owned by them”.

A Pims senior doctor, however, expressed frustration with the decision and termed it “unfortunate”. He claimed that army officers were being appointed in most institutions across the country under the pretext of corruption.

“I don’t want to comment about how the institutions, headed by the officers of armed forces, are being run. just want to say that there are competent people in the health sector who can be appointed as EDs.”

And i bet you still believe that it isn't a coup. BTW I see the PPP have **** the bed and started to apologise for their part in regime change and its imposed horrors on PK. As I explained to you,the PPP and Billo took the money but destroyed their politics. And now have nowhere to turn.
