Saud better play this time

On a side note does this mean that Talat is likely to feature in the T20 series vs Australia? Abdullah719

Lots of bad names in that squad. Well at least Saud is there.

Which Irfan? Please tell me it's the legspinner.

Mohammad Saad is #72 on the list of top-scorers in the Quaid-e-Azam Cup.

I can only assume there is something very impressive about his batting which hasn't translated into numbers.

Oh, and his List A strike-rate is 66.

You must be kidding me bro. Mohammad saad is a very talented batsman. Well deserved selection. Right hand batsman with an immaculate technique.Gritty player similar to George Bailey.

Yes. Mohammad said has a better technique. He will prove himself. Very good batsman.

Many PP darlings have been selected in this squad. You would expect these guys to be happy but then again, these are Pakistan cricket fans.

There is a lot of trash in this squad.

Are you saying this based on the names or have you been following domestic cricket? I say this because Shan, Rahat and Iftiqar have apparently done very well recently.

I follow domestic cricket closely (as my posts indicate!) But that's not the only measure of selection, you still have to filter. Otherwise, you wouldn't need a CS. Equally, if we are only going off stats there are names that have been missed. So either way, there are some questionable selections. And I am saying this as someone who has a lot of respect for Inzi.

Kamran Ghulam should have been there instead of Agha Salman. Also Waqas Ahmed and Sameen Gul instead of Ahmed Jamal and Rahat Ali. Maybe Saif Badar in place of Iftikhar.

1. Abid Ali
2. Shan Masood
3. Iftikhar Ahmed
4. Saud Shakeel
5. Agha Salman
6. Rizwan
7. Amir Yamin
8. Kashif Bhatti
9. Irfan Jnr.
10. Waqad Maqsood
11. Ahmed Jamal

Apart from Saud and Abid not an impressive squad.

At the start of his appointment Inzi selected a better A team squad.

Poor lad Zafar Gohar from the verge of getting test cap to not even finding a place in any A squads.

Pretty pathetic squad. Inzi seems to be squandering up this opportunity for A side matches by selecting undeserving players.

What are M Saad, Iftikhar Ahmed, Rahat and M Irfan Junior (fast bowler) doing in this squad? Players like Khushdil Shah and Kamran Ghulam must be gutted.

Rahat is a tried and tested failure. Iftikhar’s best format is probably tests and for that too I have a doubt based on his performances for intl and A sides. M Saad has atrocious domestic stats, surely seems like a nepotistic selection. And not sure on what basis M Irfan Junior has been selected.

With Amir, Junaid, Hassan, Shaheen, Shinwair and Rauman too 6 choices for limited overs at this point, it makes sense to give young pacers a chance in A side matches, not the likes of Rahat, M Irfan Junior and Waqas Maqsood. Really really poor selections and short sightedness.

After a good squad for the T20s, this is a shocker. Apart from Saud Shakeel and maybe Agha Salman, none of these players should even remotely be in the reckoning for the Pakistan ODI team

this is one of the worse A squad i have ever saw.my few selection

Zeeshan malik

he is modern day opener and have 2 hundred in his five list A matches with excellent strike rate of 103

Kamran ghulam
have excellent 4 day and list A tournament he should have been prefer left arm spinner ahead of kashif bhatti who should be in 4 day squad

naseem shah

he should have been tested for pakistan A to see who much he is ready for international

m.irfan/ibethsam sheikh/maaz khan/raja farzan

a leg spinner is must for odis and we have none in the A squad that too against non asian team nz which is terrible any one of above would have been more than handy

saif badar

he have played some very good inning in on going list A matches with strike rate well above 120 which is very good and deserve him a place in A squad

5 matches
3 inning
runs
166
highest
86
average
166.00
strike rate
128.68

Erm what happened to T20 captain Umar Amin? Surely he deserves a go than many names in that squad. Always wrong people are selected for wrong squads.

At least, Ul Haq picked few new & deserving names; but overall I don't like the squad.

There are few names who shouldn't be there at all - not sure what Shaan, Iftekhar, Rahat & Yamin is doing here; these are seasoned players who have been picked for PAK national team (s), in last 2-3 years, don't think they have anything to prove or achieve from A team, any more. Rizwan already is a back-up for National team, therefore his spot should have gone to a new face - he shouldn't need any more WKeeping audition. HE IS NEVER GOING TO LEAD PAK, therefore it's absolute wastage of opportunity to make him Captain, ironically another WK. Kashif & Asghar are both SLAO spinner, therefore one Offie should have been picked while I believe the Irfan guy is the leggi, not the right-arm version of Tanvir one. Also, Ul Haq has picked 5 players over 30 (considering Ifti is still not 30), and more disturbingly 4 are bowlers - Rahat, Kashif, Jamal & Waqas - from Captaincy & bowling picks, I can say that enough lessons haven't been learn yet.

I would have picked mostly new & younger faces

1. Abid Ali - OK, probably back-up WK as well
2. Shan Masood - Zeeshan Malik, batting exceptionally well in List A. Shaan has nothing to prove for A side
3. Muhammad Saad - No idea, stats are poor (I guess this guy http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/player/387886.html) - if so, at almost 29 I won't have picked him - Saad Ali, who should get some game after last season - Ul Haq is handing him a Royal flash, only to be tricked by 4 of a kind.
4. Iftikhar Ahmed - Saif Badar
5. Saud Shakeel - should be Captain, and bat at 3 - here, if he gets a game, they'll bat him at 5-6
6. Agha Salman - OK
7. Amir Yamin - He (& Hammad) has lost his battle with Fahim, no need to invest further; I would have gone for an younger all-rounder, may be Ammad Butt
8. Muhammad Rizwan (C) - One new WK, may be Masood or Siddique
9. Kashif Bhatti - OK, his domestic season deserved a call, though 4-5 years to late. Guy, has been a domestic beast for last few years. Gohar could have been another name, but Kashif has number behind him
10. Muhammad Asghar - redundant selection; never going to play behind Kashif for his batting (blowing is similar, if not behind Kashif) - Kamran Ghulam for me, as batting all-rounder and lower order hitter
11. Rahat Ali - FGS no, Sameen Gul
12. Waqas Maqsood - not sure. Too old to invest, but contemporary form deserved a call, bowled well in T20 as well. May be Ehsan Adil was better pick, as they might be looking for options for SAF. I don't mind, but would have picked a genuine young Offie, at least 7-8 years younger than Bilal
13. Muhammad Irfan Jr - if it's the leggi, OK. If not, then a genuine Leggi was must.
14. Ahmed Jamal - again too old now, but may be deserved a call, he is listed as 6'4" as well - I won't keep him though, I would have picked one of the 2 U19 pacers (Arshad/Nasim) for a look.

Disclaimer: This is a poor PAK-A squad for me, but at least we can see couple of deserving faces, so not ZERO, but not much either - it doesn't serve the purpose of A team. Now, PAK A might blank NZ A side in the series - in that case, hope few moths later some troll won't refer this post to put me in some place.

With might strike rate of 66 in pak domestics..INZI Syed1?

Atleast the previous selection committee of haroon rashid selected the best availaible players in A squad

I don't think players should be selected purely on stats, but that'd probably be a better approach than selecting complete non-performers :danish

Some of these selectors seem to be stuck in a timewarp - the same tried and tested names who seem to make their way into every squad.

This.

Some used to be here and there, but usually domestic top performed were included as Haroon never watched a game only reviewed some spreadsheets.

Inzi started well but now he is picking guys out of the blue. Especially when he said he would not pick players above 28 for the A squad.

Mohammad Saad is a weird selection. I believe he is from the same crew as Salman Butt, Kamran, Wahab etc. With Butt and Akmal deemed as persons non grata in the national team, Saad's there to make up the quota from this influential band.

The one guy that is really deserving of being tried right now is Kamran Ghulam. Kamran Ghulam ahead of Asif Ali could provide some serious balance to the ODI team.

Saj, what's your opinion of Ghulam? Are Mickey Arthur & Sarfraz aware of him?

Horan co selected best A team when we beat england lion team by 2-1

A random pp'er will select a better team than clueless Inzi. Even Haroon was better chief selector.

Awful selections. Looks like inzi doesn't even follow the sorecard. Kamran ghulam, zeeshan malik, at least should have been selected. Don't know why Irfan , rahat and Ahmed Jamal are selected all awful bowlers.

What's the job of Mani? Chasing money from India and begging for matches.

What is the difference in administration between Sethi and him?

Not a great squad. Hope that doesn't demoralize people who are doing well in domestics such as Kamran Ghulam.

Again pathetic selection.
Should have selected Saad Ali, Zeeshan Malik, Zafar Gowhar, Arshid Iqbal, Rohail Nazir, Amad Butt.
