What's new

Pakistan A beat Sri Lanka A by 8 wickets in the 2nd unofficial Test

Almost everyone here, including me, was talking smack about Jahid initially but he's proved to be consistent and solid in the few opportunities he's got.

After Babar Saud is a big talent. A true stroke maker.

Credit to Inzi for selecting these kids. Haroon Rasheed would have kept selecting Fawad, Khurram
manzoor etc

I said when the A squad was announced that Jahid Ali had an impressive record vs departmental attacks in the QEA for his age. Good knock today.

Saud Shakeel playing very nicely, 71* off 122 balls with 10 fours.

Gotta give credit to Inzi, he selected two boys Jahid and Saud who had something about them but did not have the right numbers or sufficient experience to come in the limelight, yet he still kept faith in them and it is paying off..

People might disagree but I firmly believe that Saud is the biggest batting talent to come out of this generation in Pakistan. We all hear about Babar Azam, Harris Sohail etc etc however for me at least Saud makes all his contemporaries pale in comparison whenever he's out there in the middle.

And to imagine Faisal Iqbal was about to ruin this lad's career making him bat at #6 :livid:

yes hope I do not jinx but yes for me he is a bit better then Babar. Babar can go far if he can sort out his consistency issues even in FC he has a lot of single figure scores for my liking showing he is a shaky starter.

Basit is also ruining him it seems. Didn't play the best talent at all in the first 2 games.

What a loser. Something to do with khi mafia against Saud ?

Imagine Haroon, Sallu,Mohsin, Nawaz as selectors and Miandad as chief selector we would never select so many players for A team. They will keep recycling old players in the name of experience. Feel sorry for Asghar for missing out tour matches and Yamin to be left out completely.

Jahid's selection has been the braver move imo. Saud has been talked about multiple times on Pakpassion as well as on some talk shows but Jahid was selected when nobody knew him. We lack a gritty opener, someone like Murali Vijay, but Jahid could provide some relief in the future.

Such a shame that Saud wasn't selected for the Pakistan Cup.

Could've finally watched him bat for the first time since 2014.

Saud I believe himself is from Khi so KCCI mafia being against him doesn't seem logical, or so does it seem. The only problem here I think is that his regional team (khi), was when he was playing recent domestics under Faisal Iqbal so I guess that's where the problem arises.

He's also ignoring Asghar and Yamin for some reason...

Good to see Saud batting at 3. Hopefully he'll replace Hafeez as soon as he retires.

Is it just me or Babar has a knack of relying on boundaries to score his runs. I'm only following this match on cricindo but every over Babar is getting a boundary then dots after that.

This might be a reason why he gets starts but then gives it away. He needs some temperament coaching. Don't want him to go the same way as his cousin.

Really pleased with Saud, but somewhat disappointed at how Babar keeps getting out after decent starts.

Saud struggling a little with scoring since lunch, just 7 runs so far for him in the session, in almost an hour. This is a crucial phase for him, just needs to fight it out and not throw his wicket away.

This is why A tours are important. You are tested in conditions you are not use too.

56.5 Gamage to Saud Shakeel, FOUR

Good man. :inti

Was a good decision not to select Babar azam in the test squad , still not ready.

Good first outing by said shakil.

Jahids selection is more important as he is an opener and Pakistan will do anything to find a good opener. Indeed a strong decision this.

Nawaz has played well in this tour. Case can be made for him to play as allrounder in test and odi. Hafeez is not an opener and cannot bowl. Nawaz is better bowler and can play well down the order, you get good fifth bowler option (left arm spinners are better for right handers)... Playing extra bowler without compromising batting can be handy...10 tests are long one, either Nawaz or Hassan Ali needs to be fold into the team before next tour...

Hassan is same or better as right arm bowlers we have take, but he can bat a bit and has more potential, along side Amir and Rahat he can develop better, there was no point at taking Sohail, he is too old with below average skill...This was a bad strategy by Misbah...Hafeez and Misbah makes average batting really weak, one is going to crush the top, other will make sure middle is not stable... They both cannot play pace and swing... :(

Also, keep in mind, lot of runs are scored by batsmen down the order in ENG/SA/AUS, 40/50 by number 6/7 can be very handy... In UAE he can be even more handy, he can replace Zulfi (who is way pass his time) and we can play seamer/batsmen as situation demands...

Pakistan has an excellent opportunity, not many teams are filled with stable middle order and two world class bowlers, lot can be build on that...My major complain with Misbah is/was he is not a forward looking guy, cannot be a CEO of high growth company, more like steering the ship, its time we look towards future, growing and expand our products!!!

If Sri Lanka take 20s runs lead and score over 130 and Sharjeel as walking wicket it will be an uphill task for our batsmen to overcome.

Pak A 222/5, if it was any other team you would think still 5 wickets left and 400 on cards but with Pak you allways think that it's all over when 5 wickets are down.

Let's hope they can get past 300 here..

30 overs left in the day.

If they play at a RR of 3.5 then can easily add another 100 odd to the score (which will translate into a lead of 100 since scores are roughly level atm)

Declare first thing tomorrow morning, and then send the Lankans packing..

The more I hear of Babar Azam this tour, the more I am convinced he is a year away from debut. The similarities with his cousins are uncanny: decent innings followed by brain freeze. If you consider that his 'good starts' are high scoring 50's, then it means he is playing at his peak right now. A dip in form will mean he will be producing the output of his talented cousin: 30's and out.

Nawaz is proving me wrong in this series. Good to see we have a bunch of back up for our seniors. Thanks Inzi
Have high hope on Mir Hamza (Test), Hasan Ali (ODI), Azizullah (?), Asghar (ODI), Mohammad Hasan (ODI), Saud (Test/ODI), Jasad (Test), Sadab (Test), Nawaz (ODI), Yamin (ODI & T20)

I still think Umar Akmal is better than Babar. Babar Azam is very limited in shot selection just like Shehzad.

Current partnership has produced 64 runs in 15.5 overs @ RR: 4.04 (lead by 37 runs with 5 wickets).

This is excellent going.

really pleased to see Saud and Shadab doing well get high hopes from shadab who i think can become a solid All rounder for us in future.

Good partnership between Nawaz and Hasan and now between Shadab and Hasan.. Crucial runs

I feel their real test will be against england A. We are gonna play them , right?

It's a pleasant to see consistent runs from Hassan on this tour.

Another 50 for him.

Some people write Hasan and others write it as Hassan..

I always thought the double ss was when the name was Has-saan..

In any case, I was predicting a lead of 100 odd when the scores were level by the end of the day. The boys have outdone me and established a lead of 120. Commendable :14:

Need to come out tomorrow and blast a few to stretch it to 150-170..

It's always bad to lose a wicket in last over of the day - Even worst to lose a set batsman.

I should post like this more often.

Still Hasan is on the crease and Hasan Ali to come, so I hope we may cross 150 lead tomorrow.

you also have to give him credit for not selecting ehsan adil

Difference between the Pak test side and Pak A side is from 222/5 Pak test team would barely get 320. However the Pak A side has managed, what is seems to be, over 400.

I feel there'll be a huge onus on batting as long as our tail starts at 7. I won't mind if a few Pak A bowlers get into the test side not only for their bowling, but their batting.

A great sight to see though, 370/7 from 222/5.

The Pakistan A side has Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Hasan, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali in the bottom half of the batting line-up all of which are arguably good enough to bat at number 7-8 in the test arena.. Compare that with the test side (or even ODI side) and the quality drops sharply after number 6.
