Pakistan announce squad for 2019 World Cup - Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Asif Ali selected

Thankfully Fakhar Zaman managed to get a 100 or my gut feeling is Inzy might have brought back Azhar Ali as opener to add ‘experience’ at the top of the order.

No back up openers selected Imam shall play all matches no pressure while Abid is shown the door after one game.

It doesn't matter which fast bowlers they select on these pitches it looks a struggle for all unless pitches become better.

Hafeez is the backup opener. Babar also opens in T20s and in ODIs, he's often at the crease when Fakhar departs early.

Based on current form, Imam should definitely play all the matches. Who cares whom he is related to?? If anything, Fakhar's inconsistent form is a worry!

If Abid can brought in on just one performance, he can also be booted based on one.

Apart from Husnain which hasnt done anything noteworthy yet, every other selection is okay. Wahab the scattergun can be our wildcard out there. He can bowl better variations than rest

Would have preferred Haris Rauf or Faheem over Husnain.

All the best for team. Lets win this!

He has an impressive WC record but he is so erratic. He has problems with no balls also that must be considered.

Just here to highlight that after the first game against india in the CT, if i recall we learnt our lesson well adn did not play wahab in the rest of the tournament.

Justify Wahab Riaz's selection. Let's see the best you come up with.

Ideally should have been there instead of Hasnain and Junaid should have made way for Usman Shinwari.

Hasnain is absolute crap and I'd much rather have the experience of Wahab at the World Cup then someone who was only selected based on T20 performances and the ability to bowl one ball at 90mph every match. For every Asia Cup 2012, 3rd ODI 444, Champions Trophy 2017 etc you bring up I'll just bring up his World Cup performances which came in consecutive World Cups. If our players could catch the ball we'd most likely have either won the QF or gotten it very close than it already was.

Wahab should have been selected for the Australian series to see how he'd fare but the selection committee lacks brain cells so we didn't try him.

I do agree he is raw but then so is Shaheen in spite of having played with us for over a year now. Hasnain's extra pace, and when he does bowl over 140 KPH will help us beat the likes of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Let's not forget, we have been attributed to losing to these teams.

What pace yaar, he's bowling at the same pace as Faheem Ashraf.

Create a separate thread so we can discuss there .i will count how many run up during bowling he will miss again by your favourite "super Phast bowler"

He can go for 100 runs or more every single match but I would much rather have him than Mohd. Hasnain.

Wahab should do well . He is in very good form. Hasnain or Hasan Ali should have been dropped

Imam has been mostly part of the losing streak it is what it is let's hope he does well don't expect greatness Fakhar is the only real match winner in the top order let's hope he fires more often than not!

Umar Khan, Shinwari and a dead horse should have replace, Fahim, Junaid and Malik respectively...

This was the time to bring in a spinner, not Wahab Riaz.

Also, Amir's selection in the England ODI squad was to see if he could perform and work his way into the WC squad...he did not play a single match. A man who is already struggling with fitness, form and confidence must not recover from chicken pox and play in the biggest tournament of his life.

This is what we, in English call, "playing to the gallery".

As much as I dislike Mickey Arthur, he seemed to have a clear plan in mind for building Pakistan as a side - keep up high levels of fitness, improve fielding and invest in a core group of players. All of that has been thrown away by selection Riaz.

Good squad.

You need bowlers who can be threating and take wickets.

Junaid is there to hit and cant bat or field.

Shinwari showed promise but sprays it and isnt the best with a newish ball.

Abid Ali should never have landed in England.

I think we have a good chance of making semis and if we do, we will be very dangerous.

Decent changes. Wahab can go either way. He is not a thinking bowler. All brawn. Even though Amir should have never been in the reserve. He should have been in the original squad. But if he had played in this series he could have ended up with poor figures as well. Wahab would have gone the distance as well. This is called luck lol. Being not part of a run fest series.

Junaid Khan should have been there instead of Shaheen. The rest is the best available at the moment but I still feel we are lacking a few quality batsmen despite having scored well recently.

The inclusion of Wahab is just outrageous. Your best bowler for the past year in this format has been Usman Shinwari he's won us two games one against SA and one against SL. So unfair to completely drop him, and that too for a guy who will barely play and if he does it he'll get carted around worse than Junaid.

You gotta b kidding 😂. You want to leave your best bowler out for this trundler? Shaheen had been our most successful bowler in past one and half year. He will do wonders in this WC. Mark my words.

I have marked your words for later! Hasan is our best bowler not Shaheen as you say. Shaheen did nothing in the recent matches versus England other then giving hundreds of runs.

he did picked wickets which other bowlers didn't .
hassan is not picking wickets from last year or so.

Im torn between junaid and shinwari being in the wc squad instead of shaheen and hasnain. I have a feeling that none of them will play much, as the bowlers picked will be amir, wahab, hasan, imad and shadab, with hafees as an alrounder.
Also, if haris plays instead of malik, then our batting will be good , except for a world class finisher, which we dont have.

I thing we will start with Amir hassan and shaheen. If one from shaheen and Amir failed only then we will resort to Wahab. Wahab is not gonna make playing XI straight away.

In last year or so hassan has regressed a lot. Shaheen has picked more wickets. Shaheen has got the flick of wrist which is so rare in these days. He is gonna superpass Starc very soon IA.

Shinwari ignored Rauf unlucky, Wahab very lucky, Hasnain is the wrong horse to back. He will fail to perform and shows no potential of being a top class performer. Rauf is the player the PCB need to cultivate a real streetwise bowler with skills to match who can set up a batsmen and get him out. Hopefully Amir and Shadab are fully restored to good health. They are the key performing bowlers that Paks destiny relies upon.

Overall Hasan is the much better wicket taker an a match winner on his day. He can bat well too when required.

Shaheen does not take any wickets. Take the overall record in to account instead of just the past year.

You may be right but do not forget seniority culture in pak cricket.

Haris rauf is the closest bowler to a young waqar younis i have seen . I am devastated that he is not in the wc squad. But bear in mind, a young amir was the closest bowler to wasim akram, i had seen and we all know how poorly that turned out. On hasnain, i think he has huge potential but hes not ready yet for a wc. He should be selected after the wc and amir and wahab should be dropped from int pak team, so that hasnain, shaheen, rauf, musa and naseem shah can be developed for the next wc.

I want to have the opinion of Sir Mamoon and Saj on this final squad.

Considering our options, this is arguably the best possible 15 barring 1-2 players. It is clearly a better squad than 2015, but its current ranking and W/L ratio against the top sides in the last two years is a true reflection of its potential and capability - it is a mediocre team, and it will require a lot of luck and players punching above their weight (and opposition players punching below their weight) to go all the way.

However, the time for analysis is over - now it is time to get behind the team who will either prove us right or wrong.

If Shaheen doesn't play we could have an eleven which bats till 11!

Not that I would drop young Shaheen for a TTF like Wahab, but it's a possibility.

Yes, bring up his WC games where he was a match-winner. Oh wait... :wahab2
