Pakistan announce squad for upcoming T20Is against England

For the seven-match T20I series against England, the selectors have named all the players who will travel for the World Cup except Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi. In their places, the selectors have named Northern’s all-rounder Aamir Jamal and Sindh’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in line with their strategy to reward high-performing cricketers.

Muhammad Wasim: “Along with Shan Masood, I want to congratulate Aamir Jamal and Abrar Ahmed on earning their maiden call-ups. Both Aamir and Abrar have been selected as we believe they have the skills, talent and potential to represent Pakistan at the highest level and I am hopeful if they get opportunities, they will perform strongly.

“Fakhar Zaman has also been rested from the England T20Is so that he can recover from the knee injury he sustained when he landed awkwardly while fielding in the final.”

Economy of 7.29 and not many have been able to hit him around which shows that he has bowled with reasonable control. While KPL is not a domestic event organized by PCB, Abrar bowled really well in that as well with economy of just 5.65 and was the third highest wicket taker. Was good in last QAE as well and was the 4th highest wicket taker in last Pakistan Cup too l with good economy of 4.54.

He's been performing really well across all formats domestically. Often bowling in the powerplay & death and getting wickets & keeping economy low.

Pakistan are clearly lacking a spin specialist too. Shadab & Nawaz have been good and a good bet to be rested so they can give young players like Abrar an opportunity instead of scrubs like Zahid. Would not surprise me if he performs well and gets into the ODI & potentially Test squad. Potential is clearly there. Pakistan also very clearly need more spin options for upcoming WC in India.

As for Tahir, he is not international caliber IMO. Saim Ayub is superb and will get his chance but he is still very green and needs more time in domestic.

Delighted to see both Abrar & Jamal get selected. Outside of Saim Ayub, I think they have been standouts & finds of the National T20 cup. Jamal seems very intriguing as an allrounder who can hit big & bowl medium pace. I think he's better with the bat than ball right now but still pretty young to improve his bowling.

Na I’m pretty sure this team will start holing out.

They are already under immense pressure to up their game from the top and the press conference today was extremely hostile when the squad was announced. Trust me we will see performances like the ones against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka (plus India game 1) more often than not now.

Shadab looked like he pulled a hammy in the dead rubber vs SL and then looked like he got concussed in the final, when he collided with Asif Ali. I take your point, but it’s unnecessary to take risks, especially as the spin options outside of Shaddy are not exceptional.

Regarding the aggressive intent, it’s really more about mindset than slogging (I.e. positivity rather than desperation). I’m less confident about Rizzy going up another gear, because he struggles playing length balls outside his off stump. Babar though absolutely can go up another gear. If Steven Smith, Kane Williamson and even Rooty can adapt to T20, so can Babar. However he needs to play with the handbrakes off to propel his side, not because the press is on his back. Easy for me to say, but I hope he goes out and lives by the courage of his convictions.
