It's not just lack of ability, it's also a stat padding culture which causes it.

Farhan knows you need to score 50s to keep your place, a 30 at high strike rate means he will be dropped for a stat padder.

Meanwhile abhishek knows he can score all the 30s he wants and still keep his place in the team.

Pakistan batsman irrespective of conditions can't play attacking cricket like the India, South Africa, England, New Zealand & Australia.

For that to happen, they need 6/7 out & out hard hitters which Pakistan are incapable of producing with third class domestic structure & damads/parchis in the team.

Heard some comments that Farhan's overall SENAI stats are bad because we don't talk about recent stats and just about whole career. Wonder what they will say now?

As a comparison, a top team like India is still chopping and changing players to find their best strike rate + average combination. In the last 3 years (exact same dates as the previous filter I used), here are India’s numbers against the SENAP countries:

Points to note:
1. Gill has a higher strike rate than the top Pakistani batters but he only averages 22 and has been dropped.

2. They forced Rohit Sharma with 43 average and 176 strike rate to retire because they assumed he would not be able to keep his form until the following World Cup - supposedly they were planning for the future (personally I don’t know if at the time it was right or wrong).

3. The focus is on BOTH average and strike rate, not just one factor. A 2 ball 4 or a 9 ball 18 with a 200 strike rate for a top order batter is not good enough. Similarly, a 35 average with a 120 strike rate is not good enough either.

4. SKY should gracefully retire with his low average of 26 (which ironically is higher than almost every Pakistani batter but in the Indian setup it’s a burden). The graph has been going down steadily too.

You've added 20 runs and provided a decent enough platform for others to build. A 35 at that slow strike rate is essentially a loss.

You've added 20 runs and provided a decent enough platform for others to build. A 35 at that slow strike rate is essentially a loss.

Relatively speaking, probably, but not for a top order batter if this is done consistently. You need greater output in runs. Especially in a team like India where there is way too much competition for every position.

Whereas scoring 35 in a strike rate of 120 essentially means that atleast 10-12 overs of play (including those of the batting partners is consumed) . Which keeps more pressure on them to hit out.

It's still alright for babar to coast along at the strike rate he's at 120-130. But none of the other batsmen really seem capable of scoring quicker runs around him.

Even if babar gets a good over at the end and increases his strike rate considerably , the deliveries wasted in his other overs don't magically disappear. The score will still be under par.

He is the first proper t20 batter for India. He should not drag forever and should retire gracefully. Earlier we saw gambhir and agarkar mercilessly taken out gill before wc . I dont expect sky can continue beyond this year, even if he is not willing to retire.

I’m not defending 35 average with 120 strike rate. I called it unacceptable in my post. But for the other stat too - 20 runs off 10 balls consistently - you need a better output in runs at that strike rate. Otherwise you end up with a Hasan Nawaz in your team, or probably just better than him. Less runs with a wicket down regularly early adds pressure. Remember, not everyone hits at 200 in the remaining batters.
