DUBAI: Former Pakistan all-rounder Mudassar Nazar insists his nation will as soon as once more be the kings of Asian cricket regardless of India’s rise as world beaters on the again of the riches of the IPL.

Pakistan have been kings of the sub-continent from the mid-Eighties to Nineties with their on-field brilliance below Imran Khan, who led them to the 1992 World Cup, earlier than India turned the tables.

“I don’t think Pakistan has changed. It is India who have changed,” Nazar informed AFP forward of the eagerly-awaited India-Pakistan conflict on the Twenty20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday.

“With the advent of the IPL they have used the money really, really well. If you look at the domestic competition in India, look at all the associations, how well they are organising their cricket.

He added: “Everybody has received their very own stadium, their very own academies, faculty cricket, state cricket. Cricket is prospering in India.

“But the people who have been consistently doing well have been England and Australia…India is in the forefront and among the three best sides in the world.”

Starting in 2008, a yr after the inaugural T20 World Cup, the IPL ushered in a brand new period of white-ball cricket that witnessed the sport break new floor in viewership and fan base.

The IPL emerged because the world’s richest T20 league with its model worth estimated at $6.7 billion in 2019 by the Duff and Phelps monetary consultancy.

At the identical time, Pakistan was turning into a no-go zone for worldwide cricket following the 2009 terror assault on the visiting Sri Lanka staff.

“The BCCI have been very intelligent in how they used the IPL cash. Indian cricket was highly effective earlier than that however since then it has seen numerous consistency,” mentioned Nazar.

“They have got all the areas covered. You talk about fast bowling, you talk about spinners, fielding, the physical side, it’s a powerhouse. They seem to be getting top class batsmen every season. At the moment they are looking very formidable.”

But Nazar stays hopeful that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) – the nation’s premier T20 match – and new administration will revive the sport.

“It is also a matter of cycles. One decade we could be better than the rest of the world and then somebody else catches up,” mentioned Nazar, who performed 76 Tests between 1976 and 1989 with a batting common of over 38.

He additionally sees a vivid future below new PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.

“Things have started to improve with the PSL, but it will take time. It took time for India to revive.”

“There is no club cricket and there is hardly any state cricket, so that’s a stumbling block.

“But now with the brand new administration coming in, Ramiz is a former cricketer and I believe he’ll form issues higher, put us on the correct path and within the subsequent couple of years most likely we might be as robust as we was once.”

Pakistan once had a far better head-to-head record against India who played catch up with their arch-rivals from 2000 onwards.

Nazar, who had been part of that strong Pakistan set-up, said the national team will someday turn a corner and notch up their first win against India in a World Cup.

"When we were playing we always had the edge and towards the end of my career we won more games against India than we lost," said the 65-year-old Nazar.

"It needs somebody to come up with some brilliance. Somebody has a damn good game. Somebody scores a decent century and bowls a decent spell and all of a sudden the tables will turn."

2021-2030 Decade may be belongs to strong pakistan. Babar capatancy may give chance to many talented youngesters in the country. Also PSL can produce many such talents.

If you look at the article, he has mostly praised Indian cricket, but people will as always just look at the heading and start the discussion from there.

Manchester United owner showing interest to buy a IPL team show how big is IPL brand .

We just need to keep winning and that's how you win people, Khabib had the whole UFC and MacGregor propaganda machine out against him until he flipped the script on him in Oct 2018.

I am surprised that the article didn't have mention of any conspiracy by BCCI to push Pak cricket back or holding them down.

Seems like Pakistan Board have finally people in power who are not looking to play victims but working on getting their house in order so that they can become a force once again. Yes it sucks to not have players be in IPL or teams not regularly tour Pakistan. While you can't do much about IPL, they are working hard to make ECB, NZC commit to touring again and are showing more spine than any of the previous PCB executives did.

Just hope these guys are allowed a fair go before criticism takes them down. Change is always gradual and results take time to reflect.
