ICC has finally announced the fixtures for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With Pakistan being one of the host and only host team to be playing the tournament also, would be under immense pressure to do good. So will all the recent glories translate into the successful title defense by the team green or the recent bad luck charm will continue for the hosts in this event too?

27 Feb – Pakistan v Bangladesh, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi

So need to win 2/3 to qualify for semis basically, right?

Perfectly spread out schedule for the host team which is going to start one of the favorites after back to back convincing ODI series wins in Australia and South Africa with a young team growing in confidence and a superstar emerging in Saim Ayub and maybe even Kamran Gulab.

Vibes of Bharat in ICC Knock out, 2000 when Yuvraj, Zaheer emerged from nowhere to take us to the finals.

Good luck Team Pakistan. Looking forward to great performances from this young and exciting team.

19 Feb – Pakistan v New Zealand (Most probably Pakistan will win)

23 Feb – Pakistan v India (India might edge out here)

27 Feb – Pakistan v Bangladesh ( Pakistan)

Cannot say for sure which teams are gonna qualify for the semis but if it is Australia then Pakistan might be out.

We should be going till semis for sure...

Good feeling about this. The batting is pretty much immune to collapse and the bowlers are all in form. Plus, the guys are confident and seem to be having fun.

Just need the second opener and the #7 to pull their weight and I don't see how they lose a single game. Toss in Dubai will be critical.

Pak tournament can be over within 4 days of starting the event as they can lose to NZ and Ind. and then a total loss of interest in pak for the CT. A very high probability of this.

Younis Khan optimistic on Pakistan's chances in CT 2025

"I believe the team can make it to the victory stand in the Champions Trophy and lift the national flag,"

So what's ct 2025 going to look like?

1) Saim
2) Fakhar/Abdullah
3) Babar
4) Rizwan
5) Kamran Ghulam
6) Agha
7) Niazi/Tayyab
8) Shaheen
9) Naseem
10) Rauf
11) Abrar/Sufiyan

^^ what a joke 11.

Basically saim or bust or saim+fakhar or bust.

Will be hilarious if Abdullah is selected again 🤣🤣

This is certainly the best Pakistan's ODI team has looked in a long while. A key difference is having a captain who is proactive and doesn't let the game drift away, and a couple of young spinners that are miles ahead of two certain fake all-rounders that sunk us at the World Cup.

Ultimately, it will come down to those pressure moments in knockout games. In 2021 aswell everyone expected us to lift the T20 World Cup. But somehow there is always a dropped catch, missed opportunity or collective meltdown that kills us in one fell swoop.

Quietly confident of our chances but let's temper our expectations.

Their are ways to fix our ct team and have an actual chance of winning but rubbish needs to be discarded for it

1) Abdullah discarded for Fakhar

2) discard Irfan Khan Niazi for Saud Shakeel.

3) Discard Sufiyan for Sajid Khan who's a better spinner and better batsmen.

4) Also probably discard Husnain and take your chance with the young blood Ali raza. Take a gamble as Aus took one with sam Konstas.

After that shuffle the order. Make one final decision between Kamran ghulam and Babar. Both can't be in the same lineup.

Before the 2023 World cup ,same thing's had spoken by Pakistan fans .

Let's see how they will perform in champion trophy Even at home.
Doesn't matter what Pak fans said before, the ground reality was very different. The team was untested against quality sides. They beat NZ B, Australia B, West Indies, and Afghanistan and lost to full-strength NZ.

I think the first match against New Zealand is a must-win for Pakistan. If they lose this one, it won't be an ideal situation for them to play against India in UAE in their next match.

Rashid Latif speaking during an interview:

“These are exciting times for a cricket-crazy nation. The world’s top teams will be participating in this mega event.”

“I commend the efforts of the Pakistan government and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their relentless lobbying with the International Cricket Council (ICC), ensuring that Pakistan gets the opportunity to host this tournament. India will play their matches in the UAE, and that is their business; Pakistan should focus solely on playing attacking cricket.”

“I am confident that our players will seize the opportunity to play in home conditions.”

“We have quality spinners like mystery bowler Abrar Ahmed, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Faisal Akram. Additionally, Salman Ali Agha is a valuable asset.”

“I am worried about Saim Ayub’s injury, and with Abdullah Shafique also out of form, we are left in a bit of a dilemma.”

“While all of these players are talented, finding the right combination could be a challenge.”

“I am unsure what the selectors are thinking, but perhaps they will opt for Fakhar and Shan Masood as the opening pair. We’ll have to wait and see.”

“India is a strong team, but I believe these four teams could pose a greater challenge.”

3 players on radar for selection in CT,
Shan Masood
Shadab Khan
Sajid Khan

Not sure if they are on merit or sentiment it's latter than its 12 players on merit out of which 11 should play, so road to final got bumpy

Shan and Sajid selection would be on merit, not sure about Shadab though.

India and Afghanistan are the hurdles between Pakistan and the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan should be looking to beat New Zealand and Bangladesh first. they don't have to worry about India to reach semis.

Should have picked Usman Tariq and Sajid Khan as spinners instead of Abrar otherwise it’s a decent squad , missing Imam too as he is too good ODI player to miss out in home conditions , could have easily played instead of Tayyab or Khushdil. Don’t wanna talk about Rana sb at all.

Yep 2 are enough

Not if india ,pakistan and NZ can win 2 match each which is real possibility.

NRR comes to picture in this case.
:kp

There is a chance we can qualify with just one win..

But for that either NZ or India need to win all three games and Bangladesh will have to beat the other team.

Difficult but not impossible…

NZ rarely gets knocked out in the first round. Who is going to be the victim India or Pakistan.

I suspect on Feb 28, Pakistan team is going to get an email titled “fork in the road”… People in the US in the tech industry and the govt will definitely understand 😊

Abrar is good in odis and t20s.
He is not a conventional spinner , once teams start picking him up , it will be very very tough for him.

Pakistan has not invested in proper spinners long time . Developing 4 - 5 quality conventional spinners will benefit Pakistan in all the formats.

He bowls wicket to wicket so it will still be hard to smash him.

Pak needs to prepare bowling friendly pitches if they wants to win because on batting friendly tracks our team doesn’t have fire power to consistently score 350+ and our bowlers are crap on batting surfaces, best bet would be to play on champions cup style wickets with pace and bounce and some turn as well.

We will beat India - it is not a World Cup and we have dominated them in Champions Trophy. Conditions and form are in our favour - we just won vs SA and Aus in their den. India are struggling against England at home as we speak. NZ are our bunny, they could not even defend 400 in 2023.

Realistic scenario for Pakistan to qualify

Win v NZ and Ban to make the SF

Aus gets K.o in 1st Rd, and Pak gets SA in SF

Eng k.o Ind in other SF

Pak v Eng , F

Fakhar plays a blinder to set up mammoth score , Eng succumb in Spring waves while chasing.

Very unlikely though as Pak has double burden on it , Defending Champions and Host Nation

If Saim (who was more than 50% of Pakistan batting production in the ODI's in Aus, Zim & SA) was not hurt I would say Pakistan would make the semi final 100%. With him being out I am not so sure but hoping Fakhar can come good and replicate what Saim was doing for the team the past 6 months. If Fakhar produces I guarantee a semi final appearance for Pakistan.

Champion’s cup wickets were 380+ tracks for SENA sides.

When you divide crap into 5 teams, naturally you will make it look as if the wickets are balanced.

Did you even watch even a single game? There was pace and bounce and turn and so many people were shocked that in Pakistan we can prepare such wickets , i repeat this victory today is just a fluke and 4/5 games against any decent side out batting will not score anything above 275 either batting first or chasing. So it’s better if we prepare bowling tracks and constrict the opposing team.

They still need to find a way to stop leaking runs and make their fielding better. Apart from Salman, all the other guys are careless so far. Saud did a good job at backward point but really need to work on these 2 factors.

Pakistan is not gonna chase 350 everyday so they need to stop run. That is the only problem right now

Pakistan need to beat India or NZ to make semi final. Not an easy task.

But can be done , if they plan properly and field well , I think they can do.

Babar needs to try and bat deep , bat 30 - 35 overs.

Bowlers have to maintain line and length , instead of looking for wickets every ball.

Hosts out to defend Champions Trophy title - Pakistan team preview

The host nation - and defending champions - will undoubtedly be one of the most fascinating stories of the tournament.

A powerhouse of international cricket, Pakistan is looking to overcome considerable adversity.

Not only must they deal with the added stress of being tournament hosts, but Pakistan is weathering recent coaching instability, with Aqib Javed in charge in an interim capacity until after the Champions Trophy.

Can captain Mohammad Rizwan and his side overcome the intense scrutiny that will follow their campaign?

Pakistan squad: Mohammad Rizwan (c), Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakeel, Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Usman Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi

Group Stage Fixtures:

19 February - Pakistan vs New Zealand, Karachi

23 February - Pakistan vs India, Dubai

27 February - Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Rawalpindi

Player to watch: Babar Azam

Superstar Babar Azam is the ICC’s top-ranked Men's ODI batter (795 rating points), sitting firmly above Indian duo Shubman Gill (2nd) and Rohit Sharma (3rd).

The 30-year-old scored back-to-back fifties in South Africa to finish off 2024 and he’ll need to keep that form rolling if Pakistan are to make a dent in their home tournament.

This is the team’s first 50-over ICC tournament since Babar stepped down from the captaincy at the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023. He’ll be locked in from the first ball to make sure he leads with his actions at the crease.

پاکستان might beat NZ and Lose to India and Bangladesh , yes its a possibility

After seeing Pakistan's defeat in 2 back to back games against Kiwis, I fear that they might end up losing the third clash as well and there could be a group exit waiting.

It will be interesting if we run into a situation where NZ losing to pakistan, India beating pakistan and India losing to NZ and all of them beating BD. It is totally possible. So RRR will come into picture. Ofcourse Bangladesh is no pushover to utilize them for run rate. They can beat you also.

Allah Hafiz, team Pakistan you missed a golden opportunity to win an ICC tourney at home , with a weakened Aussie outfit this was Pakistan's chance to win. But an abject surrender it was.
The surgery might happen as per media reports, a complete rebuild is being considered. Team may look like

Saim
Shan c
Saud
TT
Agha
Khusdil
Usman+
WasimJr
Naseem
Abrar
Akif

Khushil and Usman.

One can't bowl and is no way good enough to be picked as a batsman. The other should have gone to UAE.

No deserving opener like Haseebullah, Farhan will ever get a look in. No second spinner, like Sufyan
