No authentic reports so far but updates will follow as soon as any information becomes available.
I love warm up games before every ICC tournament. Normally it is restricted to few venues even if the main tournament itself is hosted in multiple countries. It will be interesting to see how they organize it this time.

Maybe every team, apart from India, will need a warm up match each in Pak and UAE to get acclimatize with the pitches.

India is at benefit here since they will play all their matches in same ground including warm ups.

This sort of measure to stop spectators from jumping over is madness and could result in Injuries. PCB should put a Railing on the spectator's side to avoid any mishap.

There will be a railing on both sides. The one on the spectator side isn't placed yet because they need trucks and other heavy machinery to have access to stadiums. This is the design of that railing

I love warm up games before every ICC tournament.
I suspect any warm up matches will be there.almost all the countries are playing odi matches in second week of February. Ind vs eng, pak , nz and sa tri series, aus vs srl are happening rt before ct.only candidates at loss are afg and bng.

There is no way this will be completed. Saw a video today, nothing's been done. Seats haven't even been 10% installed. The main boxes/media center/entire stadium entrance doesn't even have walls built in yet never mind windows. Roof is a fantasy at this point.

In order to hurry it all they have made a cocked up dangerous ground which wouldn't pass any safety checks in any sane country.

The speed of work is such that things will be done but they'll lack finish & won't be safety tested. I have been following the progress for some time now so I have seen all the PCB tricks here. First they mentioned it will be ready before Jan, then Jan 25, & now the date is postponed to 30 & some key things that were supposed to be completed have been removed.

The roof is not going to be installed. This is the summary as things stand 18-19 Jan (Gaddafi stadium)

1. Flood lights: New floodlights from Holland. Installation & wiring complete on 3 poles. Installation on 3 almost 90% but wiring not done. No testing done so far.
2. Spectator trench: The trench is completed but paint work is still missing at places. Rain drains being installed as well as cable railings. Fence on the side of the ground complete but coloring is being done. Spectator side fence is yet to be complete but design is finalized.
3. Spectator screens: Two SMD screens are in place. They have been imported & are in the stadium. The installation is probably going to be complete around 20 or 21st Jan by the latest. No testing so far. The Daktronics team that is installing the screen said they'll be done by 18 but that was a usual Pakistani lie.
4. PCB office building: This building has parking as well as 4 floors. They are not finishing the top 2 floors now.
5. The pavilion: The pavilion is complete in structure. Electrical works, doors, sanitary, paint, & glass work is underway. The pavilion has 4 floors, dressing room, hospitality boxes, & VIP floors. Two escalators are also supposed to be placed but they haven't been put so far.
6. VIP outside sitting arena: This is being built right next to the dressing rooms on the outside. I don't know why they didn't use pylons & pre prepared platforms over here but it's about 70% done & may take another week to finish.
7. Outside stadium work: The outside stadium work includes, an underground water storage facility, drainage, sewerage, re wiring of electricity, road building, parking building, gate building, green belt building, carpeted roads to and from as well as around the stadium, & safety walls on different places as well as beautification project. The hard work is complete, now finesse is remaining which will not take a long time.
8. Seats & spectator gates + amenities: This includes pavilion partitions, entrance and exit gates, bathrooms, small shops for food purchase, & chairs & this is the focus of stadium work right now. The issue with chairs is that they haven't arrived & they also are a bit confused about the seat patterns.
9. There may be other things but this is from the top of my mind.

For National Bank Stadium Karachi now they are talking about installing new LED lights. If they have decided to do so, it shouldn't take a lot of time as it's not more than 1 week work unless disaster strikes. They have also rebuilt the fence around the stadium, & building some hospitality boxes & renovating the pavilion building. There's also an external PCB office building that is being built which is similar to the one in Lahore & the work there is slow.

For Rawalpindi, they are installing a new screen, adding chairs that have been removed from Lahore, & building about 8 or 9 hospitality boxes. There's no light upgrade here & most of the work is minor touch ups except the hospitality boxes which may require some time.

Lahore will be ok from what I have seen but it won't be tested & a lot of the work will be patchy. If you are not putting in false ceilings in a building, it'll look hideous so I hope they don't cut corners and leave such things in the open. The speed of work is okay according to Pak standards but anywhere else in the world, if this was happening resignations would be flying left, right, & center.

This is the approved design of PCB office, apparently they are serious about plants and trees so there will be plants everywhere & the buzz word for the entire project is sustainability. Our babus are one hell of a joke by the way, so much talk about green practices & all but they haven't included solarization in the project. A few months down the line there will be massive amount of money spent in making the building greener & using less electricity by saying PCB is going all solar so hand us over another 2 Million USD

This is a still from one video of the stadium before the entire renovation gathered speed. It wasn't modern but it had a serene calm rustic look & feel to it. Something out of a Bronte or Kafka novel, green, rusted, & smelling like a lover who left you years ago but you still remember them every time it rains. This character of trees, greenery, & serenity will be hard to develop in years let alone days.

Wow thank you for the detailed updates !!

Pakistan is ready, these grounds will never be 100% tip top let alone in days. It will years to make these stadiums look beautiful. Not the target of PCB atm. They just want to complete basic things and host the event and that is what they are gonna do.

The work on these stadiums is going so slow . It doesn't look these will get completed in time.

The stadium looks nice in the latest pictures. Once the finishing work is done it’s going to be a spectacle. Hope to see it at full capacity during Pakistan matches in CT. Exciting times ahead for cricket fans.

Pakistan to deploy 12,664 officers as security for Champions Trophy 2025

The Punjab police (Pakistan) have started extensive security measures for the Champions Trophy 2025 starting February next month.

According to the Pakistan publication Geo News, a total of 12,664 officers have been deployed for the tournament. 7,618 of them have been allocated in Lahore while 4535 police personnel will handle security at Rawalpindi. In addition to this 411 officers will improve operations from Special Branch.

“Aerial monitoring will be conducted with support from the Pakistan Army and Rangers to strengthen surveillance. Routes to the venues will be monitored via Safe City cameras, providing real-time surveillance to prevent any incidents,” the publication quoted.

Neutral Venue

After much delay, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced that India’s matches at next year’s Champions Trophy would be held at a neutral venue instead of Pakistan, the designated host for the tournament. As part of the solution, Pakistan will also not visit India for any ICC tournament until 2028, with its matches scheduled on neutral turf instead.

While the Champions Trophy is set to be held between February 19 and March 9, the schedule has not been announced due to the impasse over this issue. The PCB had categorically opposed the hybrid model but eventually agreed to it on reciprocal grounds.

This is the first major decision since former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took over as ICC chair. This hybrid model, for all events until 2028, is expected to prevent any logjam ahead of major events over the next few years.

“This will apply to the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan), set to be played in February and March 2025, as well as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (hosted by India and Sri Lanka),” the world body said in a release.

“It was also announced that the Pakistan Cricket Board has been awarded hosting rights of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, where neutral venue arrangements will also apply,” it said.

"I fully support the cricketing decisions of him [Mohsin Naqvi], and the management decisions are progressing well. Infrastructure is improving, and the initiatives that were once discussed are now being implemented. Building infrastructure is a challenging task, especially within such a short time frame."

"The efforts have been ours. We've invested money, faced criticism, and utilized our resources. Our energy has gone into this. I hope that Gaddafi Stadium will be ready in 10-15 days, able to handle the crowd pressure and security concerns. It needs to be fully prepared and secure for the Champions Trophy."

"Amid all this chaos, the Emirates Cricket Board has benefited the most. While the hosting rights are ours, the real advantage has gone to them. Unfortunately, and fortunately, good for them. The efforts, resources, money, and energy have been ours, but the Emirates Cricket Board took advantage of the ready infrastructure. Now, the India-Pakistan match is set to take place there."

As per reports:

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a rare exception to its usual "exclusivity period" — typically spanning three weeks before the start of a tournament — by permitting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to use the designated venues for tri-series matches.

It is understood that the support period for the tournament begins on February 12, but the ICC will assume full control of the venues only after the tri-series concludes. Additionally, the Dubai venue, set to host all of India's matches, including potential knockout games, will be exclusively available from February 10.

Minister promises foolproof security for tri-nation cricket series, Champions Trophy

Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order (SCCLO) and Punjab Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has assured that foolproof security measures will be in place for the upcoming tri-nation cricket series and the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Presiding over the 21st meeting of Punjab Cabinet Standing Committee on Law and Order (SCCLO) at the Home Department on Thursday, he said that the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the top priority of the state. Secretary Punjab Home Department Noor-ul-Amin Mengal briefed the meeting on the province’s latest law and order situation, after which the committee reviewed security arrangements for both cricket events.

The committee directed authorities to implement strict security measures as per the joint security audit report of Gaddafi Stadium and approved the deployment of Army and Rangers for the matches. It also instructed the Safe City Authority to ensure that all security cameras around the stadium are operational before the games.

Provincial Minister for Finance Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman and Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain attended the meeting alongside Special Secretary Home Fazlur Rehman, officials from the CTD, Special Branch, and PCB. Commissioners, RPOs, deputy commissioners, and DPOs from across Punjab joined the meeting via video link.

During the session, Khawaja Salman Rafique also addressed the issue of LPG adulteration and theft, which has caused fatal accidents. He stated that cases will now be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act against those responsible for LPG tanker accidents. He directed the district administration to take strict action against the LPG theft and adulteration mafia, emphasizing that such crimes endanger lives and will not be tolerated.

The Punjab government is committed to ensuring public safety and successfully hosting international cricket events in Pakistan with the highest security standards.

Only positive change I see is better viewing for the crowd in Lahore. Rest remains the same or worse even. Karachi and Rawalpindi stadiums are virtually the same. If anything, Lahore now has no shed.

In February sheds won’t be required in Lahore due to better weather conditions. Besides they have already been completed, so I don’t think it will affect the preparation.

At that time I voted that Pak isn't ready to host the CT.

We are still not ready but things are looking better. Once Karachi is done, the same team will move to Rawalpindi for SMD screens. It's still unclear about the lights but there's a big chance that we'll have them before CT.

We cut it really tight, but we are almost there.

Army troops to be deployed for Champions Trophy security

The government has decided to deploy the army and rangers’ troops for security during the ICC Champions Trophy, being started from February 19 in Pakistan, sources said.

The federal cabinet has approved a summary of the interior ministry, sources at the ministry said.

Army troops will be deployed for security under Article 245, interior ministry sources said.

The deployment of the military troops as well as the Rangers personnel will begin in next few days, sources said.

The Ministry of Interior likely to issue a notification for the deployment of troops today.

The approval of the military security has been approved on the request of the PCB and the governments of Punjab and Sindh seeking deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers in assistance to the civil administration.

According to sources, the interior ministry has issued directives to concerned home departments for extending foolproof security for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Ministry sources said that there will be three-layered security, for the ICC Champions Trophy including the police, rangers and the Pakistan Army troops.

The Ministry of Interior also approved deployment of the Pakistan Army troops and Rangers earlier in Lahore for ongoing tri-nation series.

Rs 561 Crore And Counting: PCB Overspends On Champions Trophy 2025 Venues, Claims Report

As Pakistan gears up to welcome international teams for next week's Champions Trophy, the country's cricket board is also reportedly making contingency plans to manage its finances after the cost of reconstruction and upgradation of its stadiums shot up by over five billion rupees (approx USD 20.4 million). The original estimated budget for the renovation of PCB venues in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi was 12.3 billion Pakistani rupees (approx. Rs 383 crore), which has now gone up to 18 billion rupees (approx. Rs 561 crore). The tournament begins february 19 with India playing all their matches in Dubai from February 20.

The PCB's Board of Governors (BOG) has approved the additional cost. The board's chief financial officer has also been given approval for an overdraft of 3 to 6 billion rupees (if required) for the current fiscal year budget.

According to a report in the 'Dawn' newspaper, the CFO told the BOG at a meeting in December that considering the anticipated overall future cash flow requirements, there is a strong possibility that the PCB will require external cash flow support for the foreseeable future.

The report, quoting documents from the BOG meeting, said the management has agreed, in principle, to secure external cash overdraft facilities in the amount of three billion to six billion to support any unexpected additional funding requirements.

The documents also reveal that in the last fiscal year, the board had reserves of approximately 26 billion rupees.

But the board had to sell out the broadcast rights and others for the next three years (2024-26) for 1.70 billion rupees, which was less than its reserve price of around billion plus initially quoted by the PCB.

The PCB will also generate revenues after this year's Pakistan Super League by adding two more teams to the league while its 10-year contracts with the existing franchises also ends this year and can be renegotiated.

Since its creation the PCB has been a self-supporting sports body in Pakistan not dependent on any funding from government and has never complained of any serious financial crunch.

Pakistan hopes hosting major cricket tournament will erase worries of instability

Pakistan is hoping that hosting its first major multi-country cricket tournament in nearly 30 years will help erase worries of instability in the country and restore confidence in it as a tourism and investment destination.

The Champions Trophy, which kicks off next week, comes to Pakistan as the country battles two insurgencies and a political crisis that has sent its former prime minister and greatest cricket hero, Imran Khan, to jail.

But the government and Pakistan's cricket board believe the elite tournament of one-day games featuring the top eight teams in the world presents one of the most potent image-building opportunities in decades.

Cricket is a national passion in the countries of South Asia and a major money-spinner in neighbouring India.

"The return of global cricket is not just about hosting matches," said cricket board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who doubles as Pakistan's interior minister and security chief.

"It is about restoring pride, igniting national passion and giving back to the millions who have stood by Pakistan cricket."

Pakistan's security environment has been clouded since the U.S. war in neighbouring Afghanistan began in 2001. The country was struggling to convince sports teams to visit when gunmen attacked a bus carrying touring Sri Lanka cricket players in the city of Lahore in 2009. At least six players were injured, and visits by international teams came to an abrupt halt.

Security has improved dramatically since then in major urban centres, and cricket teams from overseas have been touring since 2018.

The Champions Trophy will be the first major tournament to be held in Pakistan since 1996 and will feature the home side and teams from New Zealand, England, Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa, Bangladesh and India.

All have agreed to play in Pakistan except India, which will play its matches in Dubai, including its encounter with Pakistan, the latest in a storied rivalry.

India accuses Pakistan of supporting militant groups - charges Islamabad denies - and its government advised against sending the team across the border.

Despite the relatively improved security situation, Pakistan is still struggling to contain insurgencies in the north by Islamist militants and in the southwest by ethnic Baloch separatists. But officials say violence is limited to fringe areas.

The country is also navigating a challenging economic recovery path, buttressed by a $7 billion facility from the International Monetary Fund.

Naqvi said staging the tournament was a "monumental task" that involved vast logistical improvements from roads and hotels to security.

But he said the visiting teams were happy with the arrangements and the International Cricket Council had received the board's security plan with "unanimous approval".

'ENHANCED SECURITY'

"Players are treated as state dignitaries for enhanced security," said Shahzada Sultan, the deputy police chief for Punjab province where two of the three venues within Pakistan are located.

For the Champions Trophy, police in Lahore, Karachi and the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have deployed over 20,000 troops, including snipers on rooftops along key routes. Hotels where players will stay, stadiums and airports will be heavily guarded as will the roads connecting these locations.

"Their movement warrants the best box security we can ever provide, with their routes under close surveillance," Sultan said.

Fans from the participating countries are also expected to fly to Pakistan in large numbers, but authorities have not disclosed details on the number of visas issued.

Police have said they will provide "iron clad" security to both players and supporters.

Punjab police said they have updated surveillance systems and installed around 10,000 AI-powered facial recognition cameras and additional CCTV cameras across the two cities.

Karachi police said they have set up an additional SWAT unit to respond to emergencies and conducted preventive intelligence operations to identify potential threats.

"The law and order situation is relatively better," Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said.

TRIUMPH TO DISASTER

Pakistan hosted cricket's one-day international World Cup as defending champions in 1996 during a period of optimism about sports in the country.

The national team had triumphed in the previous edition under the leadership of Khan, who is now behind bars on corruption charges after falling out with the powerful military.

His party and supporters say the charges are politically motivated. They have taken to the streets to protest and clashed with security forces, adding to instability in the country.

A spokesman for Khan's party described the political climate as "suffocating" but welcomed the return of international cricket and wished Pakistan's national team luck.

While the tournament promises to stabilise Pakistan's shaky image, the partial absence of arch-rivals India means it's not a full diplomatic success.

The countries have fought three wars since their bloody partition following independence from Britain in 1947.

Their intense rivalry has meant cricket matches between the two are among the most watched sporting contests in the world but they only play each other at multi-nation events.

Pakistan's cricket board did not comment on questions about India but former chairman Najam Sethi said hosting India would be the ultimate prize.

"This is a culmination of a long six-year trend of everyone coming to Pakistan... but the big thing will be when India and Pakistan play each other in Pakistan," he said.

"I think that will be the big breakthrough."

Looking great

@GoUgandaCranes what's the update on Pindi Stadium branding began there too ?

SMD screen installation in process.
Hospitality boxes complete. Furniture being placed. Outside seats for hospitality box (in front of them) are also done.
Chairs installed in all enclosures.
Outside paintjob is ongoing.
VVIP special enclosures complete.

The only thing that is unclear at this moment is the status of the floodlights. Although they are at the stadium, not sure if they'll install them or they are compatible with the current light frame.

There's also Islamabad stadium that has been finalized so they may just let Pindi stadium be like this and not make any trench or more stuff.

Also, my Lahore reports were 100% accurate & reliable because I found people who were working on it & had first hand updates. I don't know anyone who is working on Pindi stadium so it's just random youtube videos & they are not very good.

Punjab cabinet body reviews security for Champions Trophy

The Standing Committee of Cabinet on Law and Order on Friday reviewed security measures for the Champions Trophy cricket series and approved deployment of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers personnel for security of the event.

The committee’s 22nd meeting presided over by Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique decided to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the sports event in line with the joint security audit report.

The committee also ordered foolproof security arrangements for the annual religious gathering in Raiwind.

Mr Rafique told the meeting that Pakistan’s economy depended on a peaceful environment in the country. He said it was the state’s responsibility to protect the lives and property of people and provide them with an enabling environment. He said the masses were also enjoying Horse and Cattle Show in a peaceful environment.

Earlier, Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal briefed the meeting about the law and order situation across the province.

Special secretary (home) Fazalur Rehman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sumair Syed, Lahore commissioner and deputy commissioner and other line departments’ officers attended the meeting.

Personally, I am really excited for the start of the CT. It's the first ICC tournament on Pakistani soil in 29 years. And as a fan, who has had to live through 2009-18, there was a time when the idea of something like this seemed impossible. Despite some matches taking place in UAE, I think this is a big moment for us as a cricketing nation that we should take the time to appreciate. We have come a long way from the horrific events of 2009 and I really hope that fans flock to the stadiums to watch these matches, even if Pakistan is not playing. Will will be watching two matches live at the stadium: Pak v Bangladesh and (hopefully) the semi-final involving Pakistan.

Good luck @RedwoodOriginal and good luck to the PCB for conducting the CT well and making it a successful event. Looking forward to watching at least a few matches.
