That's what they said. Once Misbah is gone, Pakistan will become a top side.

During the Mickey Arthur era, team Pakistan went down to its lowest. In particular in the premier Test format, we started losing even at home. We achieved one of the longest ODI losing streaks.

Some of that was thankfully reversed by Misbah. We started winning Tests. Then ODIs. Series against SA was particularly good.

But, of course, we saw us lose matches too. Nothing new, it's a norm for us since early 2000s.

But, the haters said, anything lost is due to Misbah. Anything we won, they forgot to credit him.

And this mantra got repeated:

Lose Misbah, and we'll start winning.
We'll become a top cricketing side.

Unfortunately the problem is much deeper. There's a severe dearth of talent.

But, let's see what happens with the next coach.
All the wishes to them, but clearly he's in for a wild ride.

Imagine A Razzaq as your coach...dread!

Besides being a pathetic individual who holds deeply misogynistic views about women, he has barely any experience as a head-coach and was sitting on the Quetta Gladiators benches not too long ago because nobody would give him a job.

And coaching a domestic team like KPK is not the same as coaching Pakistan.

What Pakistan need is a foreign coach. And chances are that's what they will get.

You can bring any coach in the world, this team will stay mediocre . . talent is ONLY 1 aspect . . mindset, strategy, planning, out cricket are others that are in the team setups control which they have completeld flunked at . .

So with that out of the way . .
Let's talk about Misbah for a second . .

First Misbah staged a coup by being part of the committee that removed Mickey and saying he won't run . . then stepping down from the committee . . applying for the coach position . . getting the coach position when other more qualified applicants applied and they didn't stand a chance because of the brilliantly carved "strategy" . . He got the job with 0 experience coaching . . he didn't just get the coach's job, he got other jobs too before he realized he is not qualified yet . . if he were so interested, go coach some young ones . . go coach domestic teams . . go coach PSL teams . . once you've got enough experience, sure throw your name in the hat for the national team coach . . unfortunately, thats where the strategy ended for Misbah . .

Then for 2 years, we have had absolutely no idea where this team is going especially T20 . . Pak has tried more players than most if not all other nations . . up until the WI tour, the decision making was appalling to say the least . . Babar and Rizwan open . . then we go like . nope . . lets try fakhar . . then we go nope . . because Rizwan and Babar are useless down the order . . lets drop fakhar to 5 . . oops . . he's useless down the order . . lets try sharjeel up the order . . drop babar down again. . oops . . forgot babar was useless down the order . .
Asif Ali, Khushdil, Azam, hussain talat, and many more been tried but none has been given a long enough stint . .
Usman Qadir debuts . . but then isn't given enough games either . . is dropped on the stroke of the world cup . .

There has been complete and utter chaos in regards to planning, strategy and vision in this team . . which is part of the reason why we have been left with this ridiculous squad on the verge of the tournament when we don't know who to select . . this should have been locked a while ago . . so while Mohammad Wasim surely deserves the blame . . the team management being all at sea didn't help matters . .

and to top it off! Misbah knew he was in trouble . .
abandoning the team on the verge of a world cup when you've been the coach for the last 2 years surely takes the cake . . because now when the team inevitably fails in the WC, Misbah/Waqar won't be around to take the blame for the horror . . so again, well played!

Incredibly selfish from Misbah! What a fall from grace . . .

Let me repeat . . you can bring whatever coach . . no one will have a magic wand . . mediocre team will remain mediocre . . but the least you can hope for is some method to do the madness and someone who is adept with the modern game and requirements that come with it . . can't help talent! but can help all other aspects!

I am pretty sure having multiple stars & superstars is what would take this team to new heights than a simple coaching change...

Lol. I feel bad for Misbah fans ( there are only a few tbh) it feels like as if the world has come crushing on down on them. These same fans who are lecturing us would go crazy and we Would win and will be singing their hero’s songs but when lose it was Babar fault and now they are blaming Asif Ali who was his favourite anyway.

Like?

Who have we produced since early 2000s?

And, that was never said before. The solution was to just replace Misbah.

What does Misbah-ul-Haq's departure mean for the Pakistan Test side?

Over the past decade Misbah has pretty much always been part of the Pakistan Test setup, be it coach or captain. His tactics and selection have played a large role in how Pakistan have approached Tests.

Results wise, do you think this will greatly change Pakistan's test team, which seems to be going on an upward trend (minus the openers)?

We generally have been good in Asia but poor outside of it. Compared to that, in the 2000s, we were inconsistent in Asia but were able to win Tests outside Asia.

I feel like with Misbah gone, we might drop a few tests in Asia but we could possibly win outside Asia, kind of like tbe 2000s.

Nothing.

He’s an overrated coach who has only got the home victories to brag about

Isn't that the actual problem though? Not enough stars being developed and hence, not being good enough to truly compete against top teams.

Not sure Misbah was the main problem. The fact is that this team is 5th/6th place even if Imran Khan comes back from politics and gives the role his all.

Until a experience and professional coach is brought in, only then we can see this side get somewhere but some of the players need to be chucked out as well.

Imran achieved results with even ordinary players during his captaincy

I was his critic. But with Misbah we were arguing mostly on-field tactics etc. With Rameez we might start now arguing about most basic and obvious things like Fakhar is greater impact player than any other middle order bat right now in Pakistan

Us fans should call spade a spade

Misbah failed enormously as a head coach ; be it test matches as well where we could not even be winning even a single session against Australia, and NZ..

ODI and T20 : the less we say the better it is

Can Pakistan become a top side under the new management?

So now that Misbah and Waqar are gone, can Pakistan become a top team?

Under this duo, Pakistan were good in home tests but poor elsewhere. Pakistan suffered one embarrassment after another.

Misbah was accused of picking up his favourites and blamed for mishandling of youngsters like Haider Ali & Abdullah Shafique. Mohammad Amir also accused the current management for his mistreatment.

No.

We continue to remove the problem and replace it with another problem.

Pakistan will never become a top team when the CS is picking obese players like Azam Khan who have never performed in domestic and hacks like Asif Ali who is currently being trolled all over SM for his performances in the CPL.

If Azam Khan was Indian, he’d be forced to lose 100lbs and play around 100 T20 in domestic before being considered for selection in India.

In Pakistan, we have ex cricketers who basically run PCB. There’s no way players like Azam Khan, Imam ul Haq, Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique would be picked if they hadn’t had connections.

What we need is a foreign chairman, a foreign coach, a foreign chief selector and a foreign selection committee, because that’s the only way to keep out parchi’s and those who have no performances to back up their selections.
