I have watched nearly every innings of his since summer of 2010, and I can say with confidence that he is the biggest match-loser in Test cricket. In 8 years, he has directly influenced only one win, i.e. Sharjah 2014.
If you want to beat Pakistan, keep him at the crease for as long as possible. It doesn’t matter how many runs he scores, they will all be dead runs.
He also won us a test in his debut series in England against Australia. Agreed, he is not an impact player but someone who the other batsmen can play around but his problems get compounded when he has completely inept batsmen playing with him. He is in the team for a reason, a role that is given to him by the management that he needs to occupy the crease and hold one end so that others can bat around him but lately he seems to have lost it completely. May be age catching up on him, he never was a match winner and never will be but he is someone who could set it up for other batsmen by taking the shine off the new ball. His partnership with Shafiq was really impressive today and they should have and would have sealed the deal for us but Shafeeq had a lapse in concentration and he threw his wicket away on a nothing delivery and then Babar's run out set the cat among the pigeon and it was all down hill from there. we also made a cardinal error of batting Bilal ahead of Yasir after having seen them bat in the first innings. Not Yasir is some breadman with the bat but could have partnered Azhar slightly better had he batted before Bilal, only perhaps though.
