We have been playing without a reserve WK for the last two year, and I think it might hurt us in the WC. Imagine if sarfaraz gets injured for 2-3 games in the WC, but you don't have a reserve WK in the original squad, so you will probably need to withdraw sarfaraz from WC to get somebody like rizwan in the squad

Wouldn't it be better if we were to select somebody in the squad who is a keeper and plays as a pure batter? Rizwan maybe?

I think that is the weakest spot in our lineup, the back-up keeper.

That along with second opener, because choices right now are Hafeez and Imam who are minnow level.

Barring the GOAT, is there anyone in our domestic cricket who keeps wickets and is a decent opener?

No harm in trying Umair Masood then.Doesn't matter if he's young.

Edit : He may not be the finished product but he could flourish under Mickey.

Don't think they will try him, though he is a great prospect. Should have played in the PSL this year

Barring a major surprise, the only real options are Umar Akmal and Mohamamd Rizwan, the latter on of the best keepers in the country. Needs to be in the squad

Bismillah Khan was best keeper batsman in Pakistan Cup this year and he bats as opener, was amongst top run-scorers and scored 2 centuries in 4 or 5 games

No he didn't.

Like the look of Mohammad Hasan, not the most talented guy but certainly has a fighter mentality. A very neat wicket keeper probably not as clean as Saifullah Bangash, but his counter attacking approach and stubborn defense stands out among other keepers we have. He's probably better in that regard than Rizwan who has a higher ceiling but lacks the grit and will to succeed.

Rizwan is the reserve keeper. He kept wickets when Sarfraz did not play Australian ODI series.

Trust me, RIZWAN IS NOT THE ANSWER!!!!! The less said about the GOATs the better.

Yes only one century,

His scores in Pakistan Cup
239 runs at avg of 59.75 and strike rate of 120.70
and 3 catches

Kamran Akmal and Rizwan ahead of him but I think they have got enough opportunities.

Nothing wrong in trying him or having him as reserve WK, his overall stats are poor but he has improved in last 12 months.

Rizwan is obvious choice .he was brillaint behind the stump against aus in aus .his batting is just decent not a bad option for the back up .

Been saying this for some time.

Sarfraz is probably insecure about having a backup wicketkeeper as he knows that he is the weak spot in our side.

Either Rizwan or Bismillah must be given an extended opportunity to prove themselves. There are also other options like Mohd. Hasan and Saifullah Bangash. I was interested in Anop Santosh too when I saw him a while back, looked a very neat and organised keeper but has vanished.

Doubt its about being insecure. There is no keeper good enough for international cricket right now in Pakistan. Sarfraz and Mickey might infact be worried about this aspect. Rizwan is terrible, while the others are struggling in domestic cricket

Sarfraz playing all 5 games in this series was a waste of time. We have no back up and we aren't even trying to develop 1. Could have played 1 of the younger keepers in this series.

Not desperate we have Fakhar who is a capable substitute keeper & I would rathar have Rashid Latif in then that choata Akmal 🤦🏽*♂️

I agree with this - it's ridiculous there is no backup keeper picked in the LOIs and Tests. Pakistan is the only side that picks a side with just one keeper.

Also with Sarfraz's decline as a batsman, it is vital that Pakistan starts planning after the 2019 WC because I don't see him keeping his spot in all (or perhaps any) of the 3 sides 2-3 years time. For this reason Pakistan should be trying out their backup wk against the weaker sides in LOIs at the very least.

Disagree. He may have filled in for a few overs against Zimbabwe but that doesn't mean anything. Keeping for 50 overs is not easy at all, and you need a specialist.
