Asif Ghafoor, the director-general of Inter-Services Public Relations, is often in news for the wrong reasons. Not just in India but in Pakistan too. DG-ISPR Ghafoor has now defended an item song in a film that has bombed at the box office. His tweet defending the item number has gone viral as Pakistanis criticised him and the Army establishment for wasting public money on films and concerts. All in the name of Kashmir and defence of Pakistan.

The latest controversy is about the film Kaaf Kangana. The film, an ISPR project, received a very cold response from cinema-goers. Many criticised actor Neelam Muneer for agreeing to an item number in the film. The lyrics of the song are a poor attempt to malign India. She is shown dancing surrounded by salivating men with alcohol splashing all around. The lyrics of the song enraged several sections of Twitter and Neelum ended up being trolled.

She defended herself by saying she wouldn't take up a bit role like that but then she did it because it was an ISPR project. Basically, she said she did it for the country.

"Perhaps this is the first and last item song of my life. But you all know that whatever I do, I own it and I do it with pride. Pakistan key liye meri jaan hamesha hazir hey."

ISPR convincing Neelum Muneer to do an item song for their project.

Then DG-ISPR Asif Ghafoor defended the song and Neelum Muneer's portrayal in that song by delivering a double whammy. He said she was dancing among men as she was playing the role of an Indian girl, not a Pakistani girl.

Yes, you read that right. This is the level of defence. Several Pakistanis who were objecting to the original offence objected to his defence too.

Khwabon Main is the title of the item song that features Neelum Muneer and has been composed by Sahir Ali Bagga while Aima Baig provided vocals.

"Khwabon main jab main Pakistan gayi re, India main bole saadi jaan gayi re," an excerpt from the song's lyrics reads. Sharing a screenshot of Neelum's defence of the song, Asif Ghafoor explained that "the item song is by an Indian girl in the movie as per her role." Basically asking Pakistanis to not object to the cheap shots because she wasn't playing the role of a Pakistani.

Ghafoor also advised netizens to watch the movie to understand the context.

In the same tweet, DG-ISPR Asif Ghafoor also defended the Humaira Arshad concert at ISPR GHQ in the name of Kashmir. On a day to show solidarity with Kashmiris in India, ISPR had organised a song-and-dance concert. He claimed it was not an ISPR event and not organised at ISPR headquarters.

The internet is not convinced with his response that has been deemed by certain sections as damage control. "Pathetic reasoning," a user said while several others added in the comments section on the same lines.

so neelum muneer is playing a role of indian women so it's okay to show her as a characterless women ..

Directed by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, Kaaf Kangana is a project of the Inter-Services Public Relations, and features Sami Khan, Eshal Fayyaz and Ayesha Omer.

Thoroughly pleased to see this movie flop, and the wannabe celebrity Asif Ghafoor’s justification couldn’t be more pathetic and shameless.

You have to wonder how much money Pakistan army has to produce films. Does any other army in the world make films?

This is their latest project after they developed a game for iOS and Android recently.

Asif Ghafoor has a fetish for staying in the limelight, and he cannot achieve it without obsessing with India.

Lol @ Army producing movies :)))

Seems like the entire economy belongs to Fauj Foundation.

The business empire of Pakistan army has now expanded to the film industry. Do they really need to spend money on this stuff?

We were told that the public has to suffer in the short-term and bear with the expenses and price hikes, but it appears that the military is above all of this and has no qualms over wasting crores of rupees on item numbers.

Propaganda movies are not an issue as such, but how is an item number relevant and why is someone of stature defending that?

Also why was Shaan Shahid not given this?

Just watched the song. The lecherous men in the song consists of men from all over India. I see Punjabi, Marathi and UP men. Vicky Naseem reminded me of Siddhu.

The actress dancing is below average. Should have put Saima Khan.

This is where Imran should call them all in for a meeting and tell them to slow down on useless twitter overuse.

The context is a problem, I watch Pakistani movies not all but recommended ones and if Maula Jatt gets a netflix release (possibly) I’ll watch that.

Are you saying you are ok with Army spending money on Item songs feat Pakistani women?
The soft power of Pakistan is Islamic nuclear power and music-art you think it was worth the money?

That Pakistani documentary deserved an emmy and there are many such movies , the thing here is about Army sponsoring it, thats like having more say in sphere where they don’t really belong but again different perspective..

what?

Pakistan is a moderate country but not to the extent of western kind of moderate. It is another thing that moderate now a days would support backward thinkiing Mulana or other corrupt politician vs Imran Khan just because they want to protect their illegal money they have earned in past 30 years.

The reason Turkey Pak Malaysia are looked upon is because people are trying to form an alternate to Arab “power” , this is a very reason why Imran also invokes this on multiple speeches, the value of a Muslim country having nuclear missile is a signature of sorts.

Also the reason why they are launching a channel as well, irrespective of Maulanas its a brand image thing great for PR, moderates or not..

I think you’re mixing things here.

Alternate Arab power does not mean that any of them are banning music or movies.

PR helps.

but isn't music haram in islam?

I am not a scholar.

So I can't answer that question.

But remember, there isn't a single nation on this world that practice Islam according to the teaching of Islam.

I know but to have to have an upperhand surely showing Item numbers isn't the way to go..

If anything it exposes the corruption of same..

jeez its a silly song, but neelum munir could be in an ad for office equipment insurance and id watch it till the end.... :/
