Pakistan fans.. Are you happy with squad selection for T20 World Cup?

I am an Indian fan.. And i guess our team will be more or less on expected lines.

But, I am very surprised with the Team Selection of Pakistan cricket.

Azam Khan and Asif in the main squad of 15 and Fakhar Zaman in reserves ? Really ?
What is happening.

I am finding it hard not to punch a wall right now. This is the worst selection in Pakistan's history. I guess my only solace is that even our proper strength team would never have won the T20 WC either.

This team isn’t worthy of my support. This will be the first WT20 that I won’t be looking forward to.

Bring on WT20 2022 - hopefully without Misbah as coach, Wasim as selector and Babar as a dummy captain.

It's funny to see people fume over these names.

Ignoring the fact, it's the best we have. And it's really really bad quality.

There are no better alternatives out there. The domestic stocks are completely dried up. Not a single emerging batsman out there who can inspire some confidence.

This bad squad is because of a much larger and grave problem. We aren't going anywhere in world cricket if we're unable to produce good quality young cricketers.

Khushdil was hyped to the moon on this forum as upcoming young superstar. I always said he's low quality.

Each and every young batter who gets hyped turns out to be useless at the international level.

The only capable player for T20s was Sharjeel Khan who missed out. He's also having form plus fitness issues.

Fakhar is a spent force. Clicks in 1 out of 20 matches. Wouldn't have done any wonders.

Even if both Fakhar and Sharjeel were included, the squad still would have been third class quality.

With no hopes of winning the cup.

It's because we don't have any cricketing talent whatsoever coming up from the domestic pipeline.

However, I am delighted to see Sharjeel getting kicked out. No one is less deserving of playing for Pakistan.

I don't see how any sensible and rational Pakistan cricket fan wouldn't be utterly infuriated by this squad.

The best thing this selection committee has done is that announce a squad for T20 well ahead of time which would mean everyone in the team would know they are guaranteed a WC spot and now have to focus on their respective roles and responsibilities in the team.

Now on the selection itself, the exclusion of Sharjeel is much welcomed. After a long time Pakistan has a settled opening duo and with Sharjeel in mix we would have gone at some point chopping and changing what is already working for us to include this guy in XI. So I'm happy he is not part of the squad.

Similarly I'm happy with the selection of Muhammad Wasim Jr over Faheem Ashraf. Wasim Jr brings more spite and pace with his bowling and in batting hoping he can deliver more big hits than Faheem. If we are dependent on no. 7/8 batting in T20 then we are doomed anyway so its good to select the better of 2 options.

The last thing I'm happy about is the variety of our spinners although they are bits and pieces. We have leggie, offie and SLA. Now with Shadab already going to be part of XI it does not help to have another legspinner in the mix i.e. Qadir or Mehmood. Shadab in T20 with his fielding is much more value add than the other two.

On the brainfade moment the exclusion of Fakhar stands out. The guy is a genuine matchwinner and had a very good recent tour of SAF. Whilst I agree his PSL form has been scratchy he could have been more than useful and certainly a matchwinner on his day. Fingers crossed this selection decision does not backbite us.

Overall, a decent squad combo from Wasim (selector). Some good calls in there as well. Hopefully we can spend some time on the fielding training of these squad members as that would be critical in the tournament. The XI I would like to see from this squad would be as follows:

1. Babar (C)
2. Rizwan (wk)
3. Maqsood
4. Hafeez
5. Khushdil / Asif (might pick Khushdil due to his bowling attributes and depending on how many SLA opposition team has)
6. Imad / Nawaz (very difficult pick - both can use new ball well and Nawaz has a great record on UAE pitches)
7. Shadab
8. Wasim Jr
9. Hasan Ali
10. Shaheen
11. Hasnain (this guy should be given license to bowl fast and this guy shouldn't bowl in death)

Oh come on! That is such a loser excuse and mentality. It is like saying “I would fail my chemistry exam so why bother studying”.
You gotta try your best I matter what. Similarly Pakistan can pick a better squad. There is always room for improvement. A foundation has to be laid for them to succeed. Even if they don’t win, that’s fine, but they should try their best on the field, and also in selection. I think any genuine Pakistan cricket fan, who loves his/her nation and team would want that.
