KARACHI/LAHORE: The FIFA/AFC mission concluded its meeting with Pakistan’s football officials on Wednesday in what is largely expected to be the first step towards resolving the long-running dispute in the game in the country.
“A FIFA/AFC fact-finding mission was in Lahore, Pakistan yesterday and today to discuss with all parties and assess the situation as per the mandate of the FIFA Member Associations Committee,” a FIFA spokesperson told Dawn on Wednesday. “The mission is expected to submit concrete proposals for the way forward to the relevant FIFA body in due course.”
Pakistan football was involved in a legal dispute over its control for the last three years which came to an end following an election ordered by the Supreme Court in which Ashfaq Hussain Shah was elected as the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) chief. However, Ashfaq isn’t recognised by global football body FIFA which accepts Faisal Saleh Hayat as the legitimate head of the PFF.
On the second day of their meetings, the FIFA mission held a meeting with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) officials including its president retired Lt Gen Arif Hasan and secretary Khalid Mahmood while also meeting both Ashfaq and Hayat for the first time. It came after the mission had met representatives from both Ashfaq and Hayat’s groups on the first day.
Ashfaq’s meeting came as a surprise after the PFF had announced that none of its officials would meet the mission following the mission’s refusal to meet its vice-president Sardar Naveed Haider Khan, who the Hayat faction had claimed was suspended from his post as the Punjab Football Association (PFA) president.
On Monday, they had sent their legal representatives Taha Alizai and Chaudhry Zulfiqar to meet the mission.
“I received a phone call from the FIFA-AFC mission desiring for the meeting so with the consent of the Congress members I went to meet them and it was a very productive meeting,” Ashfaq told Dawn.
Hayat was accompanied by officials including Sindh Football Association (SFA) president Syed Khadim Ali Shah, Rubina Irfan, Dr. Fazal-ur-Rahman and Mian Abdul Bari, The secretary of the Hayat faction, retired Col Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi was also present, meeting the mission for a second time in two days.
The POA did not offer any comment over its meeting with the mission.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s men’s football team may finally get some international matches as the governing body of the game has started discussions about the option with multiple Asian countries to organise friendlies in Islamabad next month.
According to a source, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is eyeing to organise these matches during the FIFA window available between September 19-27.
Pakistan’s men’s national team last played an international game in June 2019 against Cambodia and since then troubles at PFF corridors and FIFA suspension has kept Pakistani players deprived of international action.
But the wait may now end very soon.
PFF's normalisation committee, according to a source, has established contacts with Laos, Afghanistan, and the Maldives to organise international friendlies in Islamabad in September.
The source added that once the tour is confirmed, the PFF-NC will work to re-organise the national team by holding trials to test players' skills and fitness levels.
Earlier, the PFF had resumed activities for women footballers by entering them into the SAFF championship, which is set to be played in Nepal next month.

We might get to see Pakistan's men's national football team play for the first time since 2019 next month. I hope Pakistan can get Etzaz Hussain and Adil Nabi on the team they would be a massive boost.

KARACHI: Taking a lesson from the success of the Philippines, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has decided to include dual-national or Pakistani origin players based in other countries in the national setup to strengthen the women's football team.
Reliable sources have confirmed that PFF has contacted over a dozen female footballers based in UK, Greece, America and UAE to know their willingness for representing Pakistan in international football.
FIFA rules allow dual nationals to pick either the country of origin or country of residence to represent in international football.
The sources have confirmed that two players have confirmed their availability to play for Pakistan.
Among them, one is UAE-based Maria Khan, who had previously played National Women Football Championship in Pakistan as well.
Maria was called up for Pakistan camp and she’s all set to represent the country in next month’s SAFF Football Championship.
UK-based Nadia Khan, who plays for Doncaster Rovers, has also expressed her willingness to play for Pakistan. However, it is unclear if she’ll be able to make it to the SAFF championship or not.
"A lot of players who have Pakistani roots, will have to complete some documentation before becoming eligible to play for Pakistan but this will be sorted out soon,” the source said.
“If not SAFF then Olympic Qualifiers — but PFF is aiming to have some oversea based skilled players in Pakistani national squad by next year,” it added.
The source highlighted how the Philippines was helped by a group of oversea players to qualify for FIFA World Cup for the first time in history.
The Philippines squad that created history by earning the berth in the FIFA Women's world cup included 12 USA-based players, three UK-based players and two Japan-based players. Only six in their squad were local players.
“If they can do it, why can’t we? We have some very good Pakistani girls playing top-level football in UK and USA who can help the country win some glory at the top level,” the source expressed.
A UK-based player, Maryam Mahmood — who plays for West Brom women — was contacted by the footballer and she can be in Pakistan colours by next year.
Other players who were approached by the federation include Samaira Khan of Actonians, Shakeela Hussain of Stevenage and Layla Banaras of Birmingham City.
Based in Greece, Aqsa Mushtaq — who plays for Aventes Chalkida — was also approached by the football federation.
Two USA-based players Aaliya Scott and Kayla Siddiqi could be on PFF’s radar as well but they’ve not been approached yet.

I can only hope some of these so called "sports journalists" on Twitter don't start ranting about overseas Pakistanis playing in Pakistan's national football team. These guy's are way better than the players we have domestically so getting these guy's on the national team is a no brainer.

Pakistan is looking to host teams in September for a few friendlies and Palestine seems to be free during that period. We might also be able to host Afghanistan and Syria in September as well.
People shouldn't expect Pakistan's football team to win against Palestine. They are ranked over 100 places ahead of us in the FIFA ranking. Playing a strong team should be good practice for us tho.

Pakistan women, men's football teams' to receive equal pay
KARACHI: Pakistan has joined a unique group in the international football community that will provide equal wages to its women's and men's football teams.
Haroon Malik, the head of PFF’s normalisation committee, confirmed to Geo News that women footballers in Pakistan will be paid as much as the men’s team.
He confirmed that both — men’s and women’s team members — will get an allowance of $150 on international match days and $75 on non-match days.
In addition, players will also be paid up to Rs400,000 for attending national camps.
“All initial participants, likely around 35, will get Rs100,000 and those who are shortlisted participants will be paid an additional Rs300,000 for the month-long camp which will make it Rs400,000 for most of the participants,” he said.
Haroon said that it is very important that players who represent Pakistan deserve to be paid well, regardless of their gender.
“When you represent your country then there’s no reason not to pay equally regardless of gender. There should be no difference,” said PFF's normalisation committee head.
Haroon added that women's sports should be encouraged, adding that athletes deserve to be well looked after as they sacrifice their life and everything for their country and they deserve to be respected and compensated appropriately.
He confirmed that players in the ongoing national women's camp are being paid the same amount and they’ll earn according to the new policy during next month’s South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship.

Pakistan is no name in football sadly. Considering the football craze here, it is quite strange that Pakistan is still a non existent team in football world. Football is easily the second most followed and played sport in Pakistan. We should definitely be doing better.

All in all, this was an impressive performance by team Pakistan. This was the first match Pakistan's women's team has played in over 8 years with only a month to prepare and despite all that, they competed really well against India. Keep in mind that India has one of the best women's football teams in Asia, they're ranked 12th in Asia and they're ranked 58th overall in FIFA's official rankings.
Pakistan needs to import some overseas players to improve our mid-field. Our mid-field didn't create enough chances for our strikers who were great this game. We could've easily squeezed in a goal or two in the first half had luck gone our way. I just wish they'd avoid making some simple mistakes like conceding an own goal, and weak passes but since they only had a month to prepare I'll cut them some slack.
Looking forward to their next match which is against Bangladesh on 10 Sep!

Pakistan women’s football team registered their biggest ever win on Tuesday when they defeated Maldives 7-0 in their last match of the SAFF Women’s Cup to finish the tournament on a winning note.
Nadia Khan scored four goals for the greens and became the first ever Pakistani to score four goals in an international match for women’s football.
Pakistan got the lead in the 39th minute with young Rameen Fareed opening the team’s account by scoring from 25m. Pakistan’s lead was doubled by Khadija Kazmi in the 48th minute when she successfully converted a penalty shoot into a goal.
Then it was Nadia’s time to display her skills.
The UK-based Pakistani player clearly outshone everyone with her brilliant control and super skills to score four consecutive goals.
She scored in the 53rd, 78th and 84th minute to complete her hat-trick and then again netted the ball in the 89th minute to score her 4th goal.
She became the first ever Pakistani to score four goals in the match and with this one single performance, she has joined Hajra Khan and Malika e Noor in the list of most international career goals by a Pakistani female player.
Anmol Heera scored another goal for Pakistan in injury time to complete the scoresheet of 7-0.
With this Pakistan’s campaign in SAFF Women Cup, 2022, ended on a winning note.

Nadia is in a different league compared to the rest of Pakistan's team which makes sense because a lot of Pakistan's domestic players haven't had the opportunity to play high-level football for over 8 years. Nadia plays for a club in England. PFF can get a few more foreign players like her if they reach out and make the required arrangements. Right now they're trying to get some top-class foreign players on the men's team.
Get this team regular matches and they'll start becoming competitive internationally.

Pakistan to Play 4-Nation Women’s Football Tournament in Saudi Arabia
Pakistan women’s national football team is set to take part in a four-nation tournament in Saudi Arabia next month. According to details, Saudi Arabia has invited Pakistan along with Mauritius and Comoros to take part in the tournament in the country in January.
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) also confirmed the invitation to the competition. The tournament is scheduled to be played from 11-19 January as all the countries look to provide opportunities for their women’s teams to play regular football.

Pakistan women’s national football team is set to take part in a four-nation tournament in Saudi Arabia next month. According to details, Saudi Arabia has invited Pakistan along with Mauritius and Comoros to take part in the tournament in the country in January.
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) also confirmed the invitation to the competition. The tournament is scheduled to be played from 11-19 January as all the countries look to provide opportunities for their women’s teams to play regular football.

Forward Sports, a multinational sports equipment company in the northeastern city of Sialkot, has been working with Adidas AG (ADSGn.DE) for almost 20 years. It is one two manufacturers of Adidas' Al Rihla, the official World Cup ball.
Forward Sports Director Hassan Masood Khawaja said his company had made 5.5 million Al Rihla balls, including 60,000 high-quality replicas of the balls used in matches, only without the real-time technology helping referees with offside and line calls.
They are used by the teams as they train in Qatar, and sold as a premium product to football enthusiasts across the globe, with the rest sold as lower-priced leisure and souvenir balls.
The match balls are made in China. Adidas declined to identify the manufacturer.
For the company, the contract is a source of pride.
"More than business, it is a matter of prestige and honour for us to make the World Cup ball," Khawaja said.
"How do we do it? It's the skill of the people ... and our love for the sport," he said.
While soccer is popular among fans, the national side is ranked 194 out of 211 countries by FIFA. Cricket reigns supreme.
Sialkot has a rich history of making soccer balls and other sporting equipment dating back to colonial times.
Pakistan remains one of the world's biggest manufacturers of soccer balls, along with China and India.
The local chamber of commerce said more than 43 million balls valued at $191 million were made in Sialkot in the 2021/22 financial year.
About 8% of Sialkot's population of around 1 million people work in the industry, but many say they have little time to actually see their product in action.
"We work all day," said Forward Sports quality control inspector Amna, when asked if she watched soccer.
"At night, when we go home, we need to rest."

Pretty good performance all things considered. Pakistan's women's team was missing 4-5 of their main players due to injuries and visa issues(PFF's fault). 2nd place is a good enough result considering the circumstances. All they need right now is game time. PFF must arrange more friendlies.
