England has vaulted into second place on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Team Rankings following the annual update*, which was carried out on 1 May to ensure the table continues to reflect the recent form of sides.

England has benefitted significantly as it has risen three places after gaining seven points to now sit on 121 points. Eoin Morgan’s side is four points behind table-topper New Zealand, which is on 125 points after dropping two points.

India, the ICC World Twenty20 2007 champion, has also lost ground following the annual update after dropping six points to slip to fourth position. It is now on 118 points, three points behind ICC World Twenty20 2009 winner Pakistan, which has joined England on 121 points after gaining five points but is ranked behind the ICC World Twenty20 2010 winner by a fraction of a point.

South Africa has slipped two places to fifth ranking after conceding six points, but is one point ahead of Australia.

Australia has swapped places with reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions, the West Indies, which is 14 points ahead of 2014 winner and eighth-ranked Sri Lanka (95 points, down by four). Bangladesh is ranked 10th on 78 points after gaining four points, while Zimbabwe has retained its 12th rank after gaining three points.

But while Afghanistan has strenghthened its ninth position, the Netherlands has dropped nine points to slip one place to 14th rank.

Even though nobody takes T20 rankings seriously. Its funny to see New Zealand and England without the domestic IPL style tournament claiming the top 2 spots in the rankings.

I didn't know they had a ranking system for T20's too. Just let all the nations to participate in the World T20 event.

Doesn't mean anything. We are still a poor T20I side and the results in the last two World T20s prove so. We have earned a lot of points because of playing a mediocre West Indian side about 20 times in the last 6 months. India is well ahead of us.

Dont know how they'll fare without sharjeel and latif but they have absolutely demolished england and westindies the two finalists of the last wt20 in the recent past .
Pakistan should always be in the top 2 t20 sides in the world if the pick the right people .

Next T20 series is against Sri Lanka, which we will win easily and Hence, will go to 2nd in the rankings.

WI are poor in bilaterals and they weren't full-strength either. Unless we win a considerable number of matches against the quality teams, our ranking has little value.
I fully agree about our poor LOI line-up and it definitely needs improvement big time. But to dismiss rankings completely is wrong. It's not Pakistan's fault if WI were poor against them. We should enjoy these rare moments rather than complaining about irrelevant things.

I agree with Mamoon . Nothing to read here or celebrate.

Been playing WI for years.

Every achievement is cause for celebration. You cannot pick and chose.

Well done Team Pakistan

:salute

Yes we can enjoy it, but it shouldn't change the fact that we are still a very poor team in the shorter formats.

Pakistan is a much improved T20 team and probably has the best bowling attack in that format.

WI are 2 times T20 champions and the same WI beat India recently. They are no minnows in T20s.
