Pakistan need to move on from Asad Shafiq mostly in pressure situations he failed averaging in 40 in FC and 39 in Tests after failing in 9 or 10 innings he smashed a Hundred who saved his place first we wasted talent like fawad alam for him now we are wasting saad ali when we give justice to domestic top performers ?

For the timebeing Azhar should open with Shan or Fakhar and Imam needs to be benched.

Saud should replace Haris Sohail in the playing eleven and one from Fakhar & Shan need to be benched for Faheem Ashraf.

Saad deserves a go first but he is not dynamic enough to unsettle SA pacers. More of a grinder.

Move Azhar to open and Azam to 5.

Saad at 6 and Salahudin at 3.

No more time wasting on this 32 yr old dud.

I agree

But for next series Asad should be booted out

Saud has problem with the short ball.

Also you are harsh on Saad. He scored on very tough tracks at a s/r of 70 the whole of the last FC season.

Saud & Saad are the future for me. (Both)

Saud picks up the length early and he pulls aswell as hooks. He is not compulsive. He shifts his weight very well on the back foot. I do not see any weakness in his batting against Short ball. Players do get out on short ball but if they fear the short ball and if this is there main mode of dismissal against short ball than this is a concern for sure. Have you seen any evidence of this in Saud's batting ?

Yes I am fully aware of Saad's SR in last and current FC season. This is why He is in my Picture. Saad had a fantastic last FC season and good Pakistan A exposure aswell where he performed well. He should be in the mix.

But Saud is technically more sound than Saad, he has more time to play pacers than Saad since he picks the length early compared to Saad and he has more allround shots in his book compared to Saad especially against pacers hence for SA tour I would prefer Saud over Saad. Saud is more dynamic. These surfaces are tough and bowlers are great so you need batsmen who can offset quality pacers like the way Babar did today. For that you need to have shots all round the wicket in your armoury.

I have in mind top FC performers aswell as top Pakistan A performers of last Season and collectively in my view only

Shan Masood, Fakhar Zaman, Saad Ali, Saud Shakeel, Umar Akmal, Umar Amin are the ones with acceptable domestic and List A Strike Rates in Last 2 seasons.

Abid Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Usman Salahuddin and Fawad Alam have scored lots of runs but there SR is not acceptable. It takes 5 to 10 points dip in Int Cricket.

A little late now for this discussion.

Most were busy wasting time on Sarfraz captaincy while ignoring Inzamam's hanky panky. He announced the team in a rush before the 5th day of the NZ test started.
If these discussions were held before SA tour started it might've had some difference. I doubt Arthur or Sarfraz will remain there by the next test series. Asad Shafiq will be made captain on this performance.

PCB or its cricket committee headed by biased Mohsin Khan still to question or even relieve cheif selector for what he has done to Pakistan's batting in ODI and tests for 2 years now. Apart from selecting his non-performing nephew.

Too much attention on Asad Shafiq. Azhar Ali's stats are even worse since the retirement of Misbah and Younis. Pakistan might consider moving both of them on

Azhar made 81 in the 2nd test match against NZ, 134 in the 3rd and a 100 in the practice match. How can You drop him?

Shafiq has his centuries too. I believe since the retirement of Misbah and Younis, his stats are better than Azhar Ali but both are poor overall for senior batsmen in the side.

If Shafiq doesn't do anything this series he needs to be given the axe, I think it may be good for him as we all know he has the ability to play good innings but he's just too inconsistent, if he was to be dropped it would be a kick up the back side, letting him know that he is not irreplacable

Preaching to the choir re Saud and Saad. We are in agreement both are the future.

Re Saud and the short ball/hook shot his coach mentioned it. IIRC Saud also mentioned it in an interview.
