What's new

Pakistan need to purge the likes of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mickey Arthur

I don't believe any country in the world selects the squad of 15-16 purely based on domestic stats alone, surely the selectors will also use their assessment of an individuals potential as a selection criteria as well. If you select the entire squad of 11 and 15 purely based on domestic stats then why have a selection committee in the first place?

And the PCB has selected domestic toppers like Asad Ali, Tanvir Ahmed and co and they embarrassed Pakistan on the international stage with their harmless 120 km/hr stuff. For Sadaf Hussain the complaint is that he is a green top bowler who operates at 125-127 km/hr who will be exposed internationally along with having poor fitness.

asad ali didn't even get a proper run in the side... imagine if they discarded mohammad asif with the same reasoning of "harmless 120km/hr stuff"

same with tanvir ahmed, he only played 5 test matches and did fairly decent in the test matches he played in.

how the hell can you say their bowling is harmless when they haven't even been given proper chances? what the hell is wrong with you?

Based on M Wasim's video:

Batsmanship in Tests is no joke. You need to be able to bat for long sessions. Playing loads of games in FC improves your batting temperament, concentration and technique. Shan Masood is the best example.

When will Inzamam understand this? He really expects that guys who only have 2/3 centuries in FC to score 150's in tests? Not happening. That focus or temperament is not there. Simply not used to batting that long.

These guys will score a flashy 30 or 40 but will always succumb to superior bowlers. Our batsmen were extremely loose on the outside off stump line. Is this our new standard?

Tanvir Ahmed retired in 2013 from Cricket, the same year he showed the entire world his long run up and loud grunts bowling at 120 km/hr. Extremely embarrassing stuff.

yes when he was past his best... he was selected out of nowhere in 2013.

lol @ embarrassing stuff, as if you've always had quality 150 pacers.

Tanvir was in his 14th year in the cricket circuit. Kuwait-born debut in 1999 and took 500+ wickets in first class had superb pace in early 2000s. Unlucky chap was selected when he was well past his prime. He was selected after being ignored for 12 years, when Akhtar and Sami had been given many chances and one had retired alongwith their injuries. Solid reason is Inzamam was captain from 2004-2007, and wedid'nt see another keeper other than Akmal or no opener other than Hafeez averaging 18 at that time.

yup, like i said he was more than decent bowler and wasn't a 120 km bowler who embarrassed Savak.

because god forbid somebody take wickets @ 120km/hr

the only quality phaast bowlers we've had are akhtar who was injured half the time, waqar who later lost his pace, and wasim.

sami wasn't good enough, the less said about wahab the better

With these 3 guys in charge pakistan may eventually reach 9th place in the test rankings

Sarfaraz will be instrumental for his team in the World Cup.

Tanvir blamed the team management for his lack of pace, he claims they placed him on a special diet which resulted in massive body fat loss which sapped his energy. He was asked this question when he was lambasting our current pacers for their lack of pace in SA and the anchor smartly quipped in, who are you to talk, what did you yourself do in SA in 2013.

Tanvie was ignored at time when he was at his peak.

Imam, Fakhar, Shadab, Faheem, Shan, Babar, Amir, Junaid, Shaheen, Imad, Haris, Usman, Hasan, Shinwari and Hamza have all been given either a chance, a comeback or continued support by Inzamam ul Haq. He has done an amazing job and all of our teams are basically free of TTFs.

Sarfaraz Ahmed has won us the Champions Trophy and is leading the T20 team very well. Furthermore, the PCB as an institution has become far better than what it was in the past.

What Pakistan needs to purge itself of, is wrist-slitting aunties and keyboard revolutionaries that want wholesale changes after a young, transitional team has lost two series against arguably, the two best test teams in the world.

amazing how simple you make it look. Like losing(getting thrashed) to this SA arguably weakest side in last 25 years and being blown away by a rookie pacer should not be a big deal? Losing series against this NZ side whose test batting especially for UAE pitches is as bad as it can get for any non-asian sides and who had a rookie spinner not even a known big player who destroyed our batting line up. You really live in quite a fictional world where everything is good and rosy.

you are correct!!

according to this guy Sarfraz can lead the team without having to do ANYTHING with the bat. He thinks keeper's job is not to be good with the bat. amazing how he can say this in 2019.

Asia Cup was poor and changes were made.

South Africa are a very strong team. They were at full-strength against us and are in no way, shape or form, weak. I think we did compete well and were unlucky at a couple of crucial junctures and although it was disappointing, it is no reason to cry or whine about burning everything down and starting anew. Give it time, most of these guys are very new players and will take time to build up their confidence.

The three individuals under the scanner are Azhar, Shafiq and Sarfaraz and if they do not improve, then they should definitely be replaced. However, that should be the extent of the changes, everyone else has done enough to deserve a long rope. Also, New Zealand have the world's best batsman and world's best pace bowler in their ranks. Let's not pretend like Pakistan losing to them is completely unexpected.

People like you have been spoiled by the legends that were Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq, who made the UAE pretty much a guaranteed victory for Pakistan from 2010-2017. That is not the case and teams do lose at home, especially when in transition with a lot of new players coming in and some veterans going through decline. Ask India and South Africa.

"very new" players, that excuse has been in use since 2007.

they are not a "very strong" team, their bowling is strong but their batting isn't as good as it once was.. if they were "very strong" they wouldn't have lost 5-1 to India at home.

how much more time do you want to give them? azhar ali is retainable but the less said about the other 2 the better.... sure, but it's spin bowling that has the most effect in UAE not pace bowlers... they have a role of their own but spin is the key in uae...

Philander,Mahraj,Faf,and Ngidi all missed at least 1 game.

How is that South Africa at full strength? :)))

Maharaj was available, but not selected.

Ngidi was replaced by Olivier, who ripped us apart with his skill-set.

Still could have selected him but they didn’t.

Yes I know he was injured, he’s better than Oliver as well . So imagine had he been fit.

South Africa didn’t have a full strength team in any of the games.

Amir being dropped, for starters. That was a big call.

Well, no. The Pakistan team was not in transition from 2011-2017. It currently is and will need time before the performances will pick up. I suggest you take a break if you're incapable of being patient about it.

Your logic is all over the place. Yes, their batting is undoubtedly weaker than before but that does not mean that it is not strong at present. I don't see what an ODI series has anything to do with their test team. Something more relevant than that would be their home test record over the last two years. How many other teams were beaten, apart from Pakistan?

And Faf was suspended due to his own doing. I don't see how anyone can say that South Africa were not at full-strength. They even had Steyn back and bowling fast.

In fact, Pakistan got the short end in terms of injuries because Haris and even Shadab would have made them stronger.

South Africa not selecting their most ineffective bowler and not dropping their best, on the basis of conjecture, is them not playing a full-strength team in any of the games?

Hopefully, you were not in your senses when you typed this out.

so a bowler who wanted rest for the longest time was rested and that's your definition of "changes were made".

when you have afridi, misbah, azhar ali, sarfraz captain within those 6 years then it certainly was a transition.. been patient since 2007, this team will always be average with the ability to surprise you here and there.

this is one of the weakest south african teams in memory... not saying pakistan had to defeat them but they definitely should have lasted more than 3 days.

of course faf not being there made them weaker

Obviously they didn't pick him due to the conditions but in a full strength line when a spinner is required,Mahraj would play.

I know you want to defend us because your precious Inzi got the squad wrong. But sometimes you just need to admit your wrong and not always defend your favourties.
