Amir is history. So is Wahab I think. But, it’s what it is.

Looking ahead, who are the bowlers available. There’s not much time left either to groom one.

Realistically to choose from:
F Ashraf (as a 4th pacer in SENA)
H Ali
M Abbas
R Ali
S Afridi

Both retiring together and Hasan Ali’s form has made it really difficult for Pak. Lack of wicket taking spinner is haunting as well

In 2 years or so Naseem shah and hasnain could be options once they get some experience with FC cricket. For now Abbas and Afridi are musts, and 3rd pacers should be condition based. If it's England get a swing bowler like Mir Hamza. If it's Aus we need a "hit the deck hard" type bowler. Not sure who we have. Hopefully Wahab Riaz can stay at least for Aus tour, might be last use of him.

depends on which series and where, but for SENA:
F Ashraf - 4th pacer but hasn't done anything with bat, hope with the time off he has done some work on it? alternate Aamer Yamin - not sure how his bowling/batting form is.

M Abbas - new ball bowler 1
S Afridi - new ball bowler 2
??? - Express Pace /Enforcer/Reverse Swing pacer
Shadab/Yasir - spin for now. no better confirmed alternatives ready yet.

its the 3rd pacer that is biggest question mark. if Wahab confirmed out, then we will need to throw in a newbie, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Hasnain, etc. I would much rather go with one of them than Hasan Ali, he could be backup in squad though.

I really hope we try out a new spinners vs SL do that we can have a new spinners for sena instead of Yasir.

any suggestions? Other than Zafar - who to be honest I am not sure how his recent form, A series performance, first class performance in last year has been, I am not sure we have any other viable options. lets not talk about Umer Khan, we are talking test match and not t20.

Muhammad Asghar is also a good option. Young and has had good A team performances recently.

Abbas, Shaheen and two spinners is the way to go in Asian conditions. Add Mir Hamza for foreign tours.

After this first class season in September bring Haris Rauf as the third pacer, the way I see it he has pace, bounce, reverse swing. He could be our Bumrah.

Currently - Mir Hamza, Shaheen and Abbas as our 3 seam options rotate between them 2 play every game

Haris Rauf as the 3rd pacer

Shadab/Yasir rotate based on pitch (Yasir in subcontinent, Shadab overseas where there little spin)

Zafar Gohar as the off spinner

Haris rauf hasnt even played a single first class match so we dont really know he is even fit enough to be playing longest format of the game. Hamza has looked ordinary when given a chance but in domestic cricket he is like wasim akram , may be he can be given another chance after his stint in county cricket.

For now i think paksitan will keep shaheen , hasan , abbas and junaid and see how it goes for there.

i seriosuly hope ithis R Ali isnt Rahat ali ... also Hassan Ali? really?

I have little knowledge of what is happening in Pakistan FC cricket. Who are the best wicket takers,? Should they be bled into the side at this stage? I don't think afridi should play so regularly at this age, on so many dead UAE and Asian pitches.

Abbas is obviously a must but Hasan Ali is so out of form. Has he played any domestic cricket?

A spinner to supplement Shah or shadab would really help. Khan and gohar I know of, but anyone else beyond the psl group?

Junaid isn’t going to get selected again after #SachKarwaHotaHai-saga.

Exactly, it's galling seeing these names bandied around of bowlers who haven't even played one FC match being hyped for the Test side.

Performances in pyjama leagues don't put you in contention for Test cricket.

We are in serious trouble i don't think there is any depth in our test bowling. We need to give a proper run to young fast bowler who have experienced of first class cricket .
My list for uae test
Hasan ali
Abbas
Mir hamza
With backup of shaheen and any youngster from haris,Sameen gul etc

Could Sameen Gul be an option? Hit the deck bowler, bowls at decent pace and gets the ball to move around. Going to need to take a gamble with somebody, and tbh I would rather try somebody new than go with Hasan Ali, he was terrible in South Africa.

Rauf is out of the equation.

Hasan Ali did bowl decently in UAE so maybe he should be retained for tests in UAE.

Cupboard is looking bare, time to make a green pitch and unleash Sadaf Hussain :)

What's the fuss about? Amir & Wahab weren't playing test cricket anyways.

Yeah, I was thinking of him as well. Liked seeing him bowl for Zalmi.

In UAE

Abbas
Hassan/ Shaheen/ Mir Hamza
Yasir
Zafar

In Australia/ SA tests (There is bounce so height and pace can be helpful)

Abbas/ Hassan/ Hamza
Shaheen
Hasnaian

In Eng/ NZ (Ball does seam and swing)

Abbas
Mir Hamza
Shaheen/ Hassan/ Zia Ul Haq/ Ehsan Adil/ Sameen Gul
(Couple of tear away fast bowlers can ben in the squad for variety on flat surfaces)

Naseem Shah, Musa, Arshad Iqbal, Haris Rauf can come in future but should be rotated across the formats as dont want to burden any one particular bowler.

There are some other pretty decent pacers available as well so its not an issue but they need to be managed well and proper captain and strategies will need to be given to maximize their potential.

Forgot to add the spinner so primary spinner should be Zafar in Sena conditions as he can bat decently and can provide the needed control, Yasir can be in the squad but I wont go with him in the starting XI. Shadab can come into picture if he improves his consistency by playing 4 day cricket.

Wahab's retirement is all but confirmed right now.

Will be very interesting to see the composition of the pace attack for the Australia tour.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Husnain will definitely be in the mix.

We might see Musa and Naseem Shah making a strong case as well if they have an excellent domestic season.

Looking at the squads, here are the options (have ignored TTFs):

Balochistan:
Amad Butt
Taj Wali
Atif Jabbar
Akhtar Shah

Central Punjab:
Hasan Ali
Nasim Shah
Ahmed Bashir
Ehsan Adil
Waqas Maqsood

KP:
Sameen Gul
Mohammad Ilyas
Arshad Iqbal
Usman Khan Shinwari
Irfanullah Shah

Northern:
Waqas Ahmed
Haris Rauf
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Musa Khan
Syed Tauseeq Shah
Sadaf Hussain

Sindh:
Mohammad Hasnain
Mir Hamza
Ghulam Muddasar
Tabish Khan

Southern Punjab:
Mohammad Abbas
Rahat Ali
Mohammad Irfan Jr

limited list of options... hope we can groom Musa Khan, Naseem Shah, M. Hussnain and Harris Rauf for the test with SSA and Abbas

Pakistan's pace attack is in pretty safe hands, some upcoming youngsters need a bit of experience under their belt to consistently start creating impact. With Waqar Younus as bowling coach and the available talent in the next 2-3 years we will see a pretty solid pace bowling attack which will be able to do the job even in overseas conditions in my opinion.

Currently in the squad:

Abbas
SSA
Hasan

Waqar needs to get these guys in a camp ASAP:

Ahmed Bashir
Waqas Ahmed

Rauf
Arshad Iqbal
Mohammad Irfan Jr
Naseem
Hasanain
Musa
Sameen Gul
Mohammad Ilyas

Imagine Rahat Ali and Mir Hamza will be in the mix too.

Hasan ali will be an asset in dry, flat Asian conditions. Did well in the UAE Tests last year.

haris rauf. he is the man to watch for. he is going to be a great bowler along with SSA. why are you guys worried vs aus.
SSA, rauf will wreak havoc.

Haris Rauf hasn't played a single FC game as of yet, so I don't think we can claim he will wreak havoc. That being said though I do expect him to be on the plane to Australia. I expect him to do decently in the QeA trophy, and since he has some hype behind him, I think he'll be one of the new additions.

Who'll be our Red Ball bowlers for the Australian tour?

Pakistan Cricket Team will tour Australia next month to play 3 T20I's and 2 Test matches.
The 2 test match series will be Pakistan's first World Test Championship series, and a total of 120 points will be up for grabs.
However, after the retirement of M.Amir and Wahab Riaz's indefinite leave from the longer format means that Pakistan will have to bring in other fast bowlers to strengthen their bowling attack.
Even though Wahab Hasn't Played Test cricket for past 2 years but he was our best bowler in the last Australian tour.
M.Abbas is most likely to open the bowling attack, but in Aussie conditions we need someone who can bowl quick and reverse the ball as well.
Here are some pacers who I think can be included in the squad :
Shaheen Afridi
Usman Shinwari
Hassan Ali
Mir Hamza
Faheem Ashraf
M.Irfan
Haris Rauf
Naseem Shah

This group of bowlers are doing well on that pindi pitch. Shaheen, Naseem, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali are bowling tight lines.
