I think this is a good move, keep it professional ad keep the focus on the game, Harris Sohail has special dispensation, anyone know why?

Good. This will have them focus on cricket only warna Biwian tang karti rahengi.

Heard only Harris got an exception and is allowed family on the tour. They should make an exception for Asif as well given his circumstances.

I think it’s a bit harsh though. Sometimes family support is needed to get out of a rut. No amount of practice and time spent on field certain mental issues, I feel.

Wrong decision. Obviously at a World Cup players will be thinking 24/7 about cricket.

You need time to switch off from the game which is where the family comes in, so cricket doesn't overwhelm you. They spend enough time away from their families as it is.

Great decision. Pakistani wives would make Cersei and Daenerys look co-operative, should be good for team spirit.

PCB should've said to players: Win 4 of the first 5 matches and families and join you.. Maybe that will motivate the players to perform better..

Great idea, and other teams have done exactly the same in the past.

First do the hard work without distractions, get to the knock out stages, then invite the families.

Well doesn’t seem to have worked given the dismal batting display against Afghanistan today in the warm up game

PCB should appoint you as a strategic consultant. This is how it should have been done. :)

I wonder why Harry Sohail got special leeway. Unfair on other cricketers imo.

It's a long tournament and this long without the family is harsh. The families cost could have easily been paid by the players who wanted to take the family with them.

I think the players have the option of bringing their wives and kids on the tour but the PCB has said if they wish to do that then they will have to pay out of their own pocket, the PCB wont be accomodating them. But then again to make an exception for Haris Sohail could bring bitterness in the squad unless the PCB wants to make the reason public so that everyone can understand why an exception was made

OK & I agree.

Post sensibly in this thread. We are talking about players families etc.

This is a bad decision. Pakistanis love to police and cotnrol other peoples lives, these are grown men and professional athletes, they should be able to bring along whoever they want. I don't see this rule in the NBA or NFL.

Excellent move by PCB, too much jiggly jiggly under the covers makes guys weak because their levels of testosterone decrease.

This is why England football teams band WAGS from attending the players hotel rooms and also why boxers abstain for sex days (or sometimes weeks) before the fight.

If players want to enjoy the nightlife, I have no issues with that as long as they’re in their senses when they wake up first thing and there are no after parties. But during a WC, I would rather stick to fishing.

Or PCB said to their families. They'll be back on the plane from England before the tea gets cold. No need to fly out all this way to watch a clueless captain and 11 players get annihilated.
Plus the kit-kit and the camera men focusing on the families also takes the interest out the game.

They can bring whoever they want but the PCB will pay for it

I remember when Cricket Australia also banned Wives and WAGS from accompanying the team on foreign tours, Mathew Hayden made a plea that such a policy will only increase marital discord between the players and their spouses and could potentially lead to break ups, divorces and negatively impacting the players mentally and in the long run.

Now obviously things work differently in Pakistan but it is still a concern nevertheless.

There is no ban on family members if anyone wanna join they need to spend their own money for accomodation and other stuff...

Knowing how unprofessional these guys are, I think it's a good move.

If they could separate their personal lives from their professional lives, no harm in allowing families to stay with them. PCB probably understands their typical desi mentality and knows that cutting out distractions forcefully is the only way to get them to focus on the job.

The PCB should pay for it, that's the right way to treat your employees as any organization would. This should be considered among their perks of being employed by the PCB. WAGs and familiy members have always gotten privileges, Pakistani cricket isn't unique.

Is there any correlation between banning families and winning? For all it is worth, this is quite a stupid move by the PCB and will only affect the team negatively. Expecting Malik, Hafeez and co to start throwing tantrums around this.

World Cup 2019: Pakistan players can stay with wives but only after India match

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has eased its stance on Pakistan players staying with their wives in the United Kingdom during World Cup 2019.

Days after banning wives and family members of the national team to travel with the Pakistan players, PCB has now allowed the players to stay with their close ones after the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash on June 16 in Southampton, according to Dawn.

Pakistan will be opening their World Cup campaign on May 31 against the West Indies and will play 3 more matches England (June 3), Sri Lanka (June 7), Australia (June 12) before they take on their arch-rivals.

Nonetheless, two Pakistan cricketers in Asif Ali and Harris Sohail have been allowed to stay with their immediate families from the start of the tournament. While Ali had lost his 2-year-old daughter to cancer days ahead of the World Cup, Sohail has been granted permission due to personal reasons.

PCB's move to change their decision came after noticing the trend followed by other teams in the 10-team World Cup, starting May 30 in the United Kingdom.

When it comes to India cricketers, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier announced that players' wives and immediate families will be allowed to travel with the team for just 15 days.

The BCCI also decided that the wives and relatives can join the India stars only after the first 20 days of World Cup 2019.

Notably, Pakistan Cricket Board had allowed wives and relatives to stay with the players during their ODI series loss in England earlier this month.

Would be a good topic of some study / research assignment to compare players performance before and after their families allowed to stay with them. Positive or negative effect.

What is the full truth. I thought it was just a funding issue first and players were allowed to keep their families with them if they paid for it.
So that wasn't the case then?
Are the PCB gonna pay post india game now then?

And why was this not all sorted and told to players about 2 months ago

I agree with you, but they just spent plenty of time with their family's during the England series. So perhaps for this bunch it will be better in the short-term, I can talk from the POV of a boxer during camp, it can help big time not having the distractions around you for 10-12 gruelling weeks, also keeps your intensity and energy up. But everyone is different and it looks like management have slightly altered this rule which is good news I suppose.

Placing way too much importance to the India match.

As long as our players and our administration keeps placing high importance to India, we will not win very often against them.

It doesn’t matter what the fans or the media think, these guys are professionals and should treat each match the same.

I heard it was only after the Australia game.

Its the world cup not a free holiday.

With modern technology they can video call their family whenever they please(outuside of game). Players need to concentrate on training, matches and rest.

Former captain Muhammad Yousuf is furious with the Pakistan Cricket Board for allowing families of the players to stay with them ahead of the much-awaited match against India in the World Cup.

Wives and children of the Pakistani players have joined them in Manchester ahead of the clash against India on Sunday.

“I was part of the 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Cups but the board never allowed players to have their families with them during the tournament,” Yousuf said.

“In 1999 we had such a big team with so many big names that if we had pressurized the board to give permission to have our wives and children stay with us in team hotel they would have done so.

“But we didn’t because the World Cup is high-pressure event and players need to just be focussed on cricket and reaching the final. That is what happened in 99’ in England,” Yousuf said.

Yousuf, who played 90 Tests and 288 one-day internationals, recalled that the board didn’t even give permission to players in one-day series or tournaments to have their families stay with them in those days.

“I remember we were allowed to have our wives and children with us only during Test matches as it made sense as we stayed in one city for at least a week,” Yousuf said.

The former Pakistan batsman said he couldn’t understand the logic behind PCB’s decision to allow the wives and children to join players before the all-important match against India.

“If it was necessary to appease the players they could have been allowed to have their wives and children at the start of the tournament, not at the business end of the World Cup.” Yousuf said with their families around it was a big distraction for the players and with important matches coming up he was worried about the results.

The PCB initially had refused to give permission to the players to have their families with them in the World Cup but it later changed its mind and said families could stay in the team hotel after the match against Australia which Pakistan lost.

As we will most likely be eliminated from the competition after the India match the PCB has allowed our players to be with their wives then.

Good shopping & enjoyment time at the cost of country's tax collection. Enjoyment at it's peak.

Its fair enough Players arent robots Theyve been in england since early may so you cant accept them not to see their families for over 2months

Yousuf is just someone who moans for the sake of it Just very bitter all the time for some reason

Master strategy by PCB.
If they loose, the wives will nag them 24 x 7 , so to avoid it they put in extra effort to win.:60:

Wonder if this rule was followed as far as Shoaib Malik's family is concerned?
Sycamore brought up this point.

How do you even enforce such a thing? There’s nothing to stop any WAGs making their own arrangements to fly over and then meeting their partners/booming in to a nearby hotel when in the UK. The players don’t own their partners so can’t really stop them doing this.

Yes the wives can do that if they wish.
Pcb is refering to the fact that they won't PAY for the players wives and families to join the players, until after the india match!
Pakistanis are always after freebies!

It's all down to the players. Even if Wives/WAGs turn up, it is down to the respective players on weather he will go out for dinner before a match etc.

This is got nothing to do with owning, but everything to do with responsibility.
