Guyana Amazon Warriors - Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir

Jamaica Tallawahs - Imad Wasim

St. Lucia Stars - Mohammad Sami

Barbados Tridents - Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan

Originally, Shahid Afridi, Shadab Khan, Junaid Khan, Hussain Talat, Rumman Raees and others were also scheduled to take part but pulled out for various reasons.

Shadab Khan and co only pulled out because of this silly policy from the PCB to only allow the players to play in 2 T20 tournmants per year including the PSL, they cant participate in all tournaments.....whoever thought of this idea should be slapped across the face.

They obviously can’t think for themselves can they?

The likes of Hasan, Juanid, Shadab, Amir and Raees were playing in any league that sent them an offer last summer/winter.

They were left depleted and injured to compete in full force against NZ and we were whitewashed 5-0.

This is a policy to prevent that from happening again as Mickey himself stated that some players choosing to play non-stop T20 leagues severely hindered their performances.

Shadab is waiting on the BBL because he was a great overseas pick taking six wickets last time for the Brisbane Heat. He had a quiet PSL but responded with 3 for 20 odd in the Final.

Shadab has been released by Brisbane Heat for the coming season.Pakistan will have SA tour around that time.

The 2 leagues rule does not apply to PSL,T10 or County cricket.I.e players can play these tournaments and the 2 leagues. That’s good enough.

Down to 6 now.

Each contracted player should be allowed to play 2 foreign leagues imho.

Apart from CPL, BPL is another league where Pakistanis actually get picked and are in good demand.

BCB also allows its players to play 2 leagues tops. Which is only a worry for Shakib really.

Apart from Malik and Imad(even Imad is there because he hasn't played a game for about a year, good to get some practice before Aisa Cup)no current player in there. Very good from PCB.

PCB should allow contracted players only to County cricket and BBL. If relations improve add IPL.

Two league in addition with PSL is plenty tbh. Seriously how much more cricket do they want to play? Even this amount of cricket is too much to maintain optimum fitness.

Poor set of players in terms of Pakistani ones that are involved.

The Akmal brothers nowhere to be seen.

Even these league's have given up now.

He's beating Munro for pace. Still got it lol.

Mohammad Sami had a horrible day with the ball going for 51 runs in 4 overs.

Good to see Malik still can't play pace. :(

The guy is going to cost us a shot at the World Cup.

Better quality.

Can you clarify if its PSL plus two leagues or Two leagues including PSL?

Here is what Najam Sethi said in an interview with PakPassion

To be clear, we are not including the PSL in the restriction. So, they are free to play 2 other T20 leagues but these are subject to certain national considerations. For example, if you are not required for national duties and if Mickey Arthur says so, we will give this permission, or he may refuse it saying that a player is slightly injured, or he may aggravate his injury by playing another league. So, we will take all these national considerations into account.

So contracted players can play in 3 T20 leagues including PSL.County Cricket and T10 is not included in the restriction.

Sami scored a half century in 1st match............. with the bowl

Shoaib Malik played captain role brilliantly in 2nd match and Tanvir made Aussies cry like baby (although he should be banned for that, but it was good to see Aussies whining and crying on twitter)

Mohammad Sami had a horrible day with the ball going for 51 runs in 4 overs.

That's not a horrible day for him, that is just another day at the office.. but pace is pace yaar :ma

This is the problem with Imad's bowling. Other than novelty he offers no threat at all. Which means after a couple of overs you are able to milk him and hit the bad ball away for a boundary.

His style of bowling (darting) is effective in T20s but playing him in anything longer is a waste of time.

darting can work in T20s and even in the modern ODI .. not everyone needs to be a wicket taker, going around 5 RPO can be a big asset

my problem with Imad is that he needs to improve as a batsmen. he can't just play as a defensive bowler, he needs to bring something with the bat

Why shadab Has opted out of CPL? Asia cup is plenty of days away, he could have easily won T and T match here

Sohail Tanvir fined after making obscene gesture

Sohail Tanvir of the Guyana Amazon Warriors has been fined 15% of his match fee after making an obscene gesture during the match against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on 9 August 2018 at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

The incident occurred in the 17th over of the Patriots innings when Ben Cutting was dismissed by Tanvir.

The player has accepted the sanction that was handed down to him by match referee, Denavon Hayles.

How is this ali Khan he is taking the new ball with Gabriel and outbwing him.He is USA international but born in Pakistan

Shoaib Malik and Sohail Tanvir(Guyana Amazon Warriors) will play tonight against Mohammad Sami(St Lucia Stars)

No Pakistani players in the second match.

David Warner made Sohail Tanvir look like Wasim Akram.

Couldn't get bat on ball.

Pakistan's bowling is at its best when it is attacking. Imad offers nothing after the first two overs- no drift, no variation, no turn, no dip. Nothing.

Agree re his batting.

No matter what happens in the CPL this year, the best moment will forever be Sohail Tanvir flipping the bird.

Somehow, someway, Cookry actually makes the cricketing world laugh and not hue and cry about a lack of sportsmanship.

Does Ali Khan qualify for this thread? :genius

Has been brilliant this CPL. Ian Bishop is very impressed by him.

Sohail Tanvir took 1 wicket in his 4 overs and went for 40
Shoaib Malik scored 38 runs off 30 balls
Mohammad Irfan took no wickets in his 4 overs and went for 24 runs
Wahab Riaz took 1 wicket in his 4 overs and went for 29 runs

Wahab Riaz bowled well actually how ever their was some wides and bad balls but still did pretty good. Irfan bowled well too and had a drop catch of his bowling as well.

Mohammad Sami and Imad Wasim in action for St Lucia Stars and Jamaica Tallawahs respectively later on!

Getting spanked at the moment (as predicted).

Went for 11 in his first over. Seems to be giving it more air.

4 overs for 24. :ajmal

His first two overs went for 19. Captain took him off and brought him back when there were two new batsmen at the crease.

Zampa was getting decent turn, Imad was getting nothing. I will say this though, he was trying to vary his pace which is good to see.

The two batsman were Pollard and Sammy. Pollard wasn't new at the crease, and Sammy had just hit a six against Zampa the over before. Apparently Imad took a sick diving catch too.

Imad Wasim will be in action again later, against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots!

I watched the match. The game situation was that they had a mini collapse as Zampa had taken two wickets in the previous over. Only then was Imad brought back on.

For two reasons: (i) the collapse meant the batsmen were not looking to take undue risks and were more interested in rotating the strike and (ii) neither of the two batsmen are great players of spin. Russell recognised this and brought back Imad.

Like I said, I liked the fact Imad was varying his pace but the fact of the matter is it was a mediocre performance. Zampa by contrast finished with 3/27 and was man of the match.

p.s. Sammy was injured.

Jamaica Tallawahs 178/4 (R Taylor 51*, Lewis 49, Phillips 41, Lamichhane 2/21) beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots 131/9 (Gayle 24, Santokie 2/13, Imad Wasim 2/21, Zampa 2/38) by 47 runs

Early pacesetters Jamaica Tallawahs made it three wins from three in the 2018 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a 47-run victory over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on a night when run-scoring appeared at times almost impossible while at others six after six rained down on the Sabina Park stands.

What would prove to be the pivotal moment came relatively early in the game, approaching the midway point of the Tallawahs innings. Having been inserted by the Patriots, Jamaica were 77/2 when Ross Taylor, having made just 6 from 10 balls, skewed an attempted drive to long-off off part-time off-spinner Anton Devcich.

Devcich, though, had overstepped and the no-ball would prove costly; Taylor went on to blast an unbeaten 51 from 35 balls and take the game well beyond the Patriots.

Taylor and Glenn Phillips (41) both accelerated dramatically from slow starts to help power the Tallawahs to 178/4 from their 20 overs despite more brilliance from Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane (2/21) and some quality death bowling from Ben Cutting.

And this trend continued in the Patriots innings during a bizarre Power Play which saw the Patriots deal almost exclusively in sixes. When the score reached 29/2 after five overs, 24 of those runs had come from just four strikes, while Evin Lewis – who now has 47 runs in his last eight T20 innings – and Tom Cooper had departed to high-class fast bowling from Oshane Thomas (1/26) and Krishmar Santokie (2/13).

Chris Gayle – who spent most of the Tallawahs innings off the field with an injured hand - was remarkably watchful against that pair, collecting just a single run from the first 15 balls he faced but then struck three sixes and a four from his next eight before slicing off spinner Steven Jacobs to short third-man to leave the Patriots three down inside the first six overs and with too much work to do.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals – the first six to six different bowlers – as the likes of Devon Thomas, Devcich and Cutting all tried and failed to breathe life into the Patriots innings.

Adam Zampa snuffed out any hopes of a Patriots recovery when he ended a promising partnership between Carlos Brathwaite and Mahmudullah (22) with a googly that foxed the Bangladesh star and knocked back the off stump before the impressive Imad Wasim (2/21) truly ended the contest when he had Brathwaite smartly caught in the deep by Rovman Powell.

With the game gone, Sheldon Cottrell enjoyed himself with a couple of huge sixes late in the innings before being cleaned up by the returning Santokie.

The Tallawahs made a fine start with the bat, Kennar Lewis grabbing his opportunity at the top of the order after injury ruled out Johnson Charles.

Having been the support act for Andre Russell’s match-winning performance against Trinbago Knight Riders back in game three, Lewis was the early star here as he dominated a Power Play that brought the Tallawahs 58 runs without loss before he fell just short of a half-century on 49 from 25 balls.

After a tidy opening over from Cottrell, Lewis took charge. He drilled Jeremiah Louis’ first two deliveries straight back down the ground for six and four, and the big man showed there was more to his game than brute force with a delicate cut shot for four more.

A mixed bag of an over from Devcich saw some short, wide deliveries go unpunished but also another six down the ground, while Lamichhane was dispatched over midwicket.

Lamichhane took centre-stage and his revenge in his next over. After a fourth six of the night for Lewis, he perished looking for number five as Tom Cooper held a smart catch at long-off. Andre McCarthy was trapped lbw propping half-forward to a googly very next ball.

That left this Caribbean clash with a distinctly New Zealand flavour as Taylor joined Phillips in the middle with Devcich bowling.

And Devcich looked to have struck when he had Taylor caught at mid-off only for TV replays to confirm the foot fauly.

Phillips duly deposited the resulting free hit over the ropes at midwicket, and it instantly felt like a key moment. As well as letting Taylor off the hook, which would prove so costly later, it also gave Phillips momentum as Jamaica suddenly jumped from an apparent 77/3 to 84/2.

That significance was confirmed in the very next over when Phillips launched Cutting for another pair of sixes. Both were hit straight – the first brutally back over the bowler, the second somewhat fortuitously over the keeper. But the momentum shift was clear. From 15 off 21 before that free-hit, Phillips suddenly had 38 from 29 and the Tallawahs were beyond 100 with nine overs still to go.

Things would shift again, though. With the innings slipping away from them, the Patriots turned again to their champion leg-spinner Lamichhane to change things. He may not have got the breakthrough himself, but he certainly did his job in an over that brought the Tallawahs only a single. Phillips duly aimed a huge slog at the first ball of Cutting’s follow-up over and was dismissed lbw, although replays suggested the ball would have gone on to miss leg stump.

Lamichhane ended with figures of 2/21, just four runs coming from his final two overs at a time when the Tallawahs were looking to kick on. From 102/1 after 11 overs, Jamaica only made it to 113/3 from 15.

Something had to give, and it was Taylor who made his move. Cottrell’s return to the attack was greeted with successive sixes, the first uppercut over backward point and the second smeared over square-leg.

Like Phillips before him, Taylor had gone straight from first gear to fifth as a third six in four balls disappeared over deep midwicket when Brathwaite returned to the attack. It was all action now as Powell launched Brathwaite for successive sixes before falling to a catch in the deep looking for a third consecutive Hero Maximum.

Cutting kept things impressively tight at the death, but Taylor was able to get through to his half-century in the final over and really make the Patriots pay for the let-off he was given when he had just 6 to his name

The 2018 edition of the CPL starts tomorrow and there will be six Pakistani players taking part, as long as there aren't any more squad changes.

Guyana Amazon Warriors - Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir

Jamaica Tallawahs - Imad Wasim

St. Lucia Stars - Mohammad Sami

Barbados Tridents - Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan

Originally, Shahid Afridi, Shadab Khan, Junaid Khan, Hussain Talat, Rumman Raees and others were also scheduled to take part but pulled out for various reasons.

Sami, Tanvir, Riaz. Hard to think of a collection of Pakistani players to whom I am more indifferent. Wasim's form is perhaps incidental interest, with the Asia Cup ahead, but he's not good enough to get back into the ODI team. And Malik, well, he may well be useful in the Asia Cup, but I would love for him to retire before the WC.

Mohammad Sami in ST Lucia team but very unlikely he will play after phaintey he has received in opening games

Some Pakistan bowlers will be in action later, as Barbados Tridents (Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Irfan) take on St Lucia Stars (Mohammad Sami).

Pollard leads from front as Stars end two-year wait for victory

2018 HERO CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCH REPORT 10

St Lucia Stars 226/6 (Pollard 104, Fletcher 80, Cornwall 30, Wahab Riaz 3/35, Reifer 2/67) beat Barbados Tridents 188/6 (D Smith 58, McCoy 3/28, Qais Ahmad 2/29) by 38 runs

A maiden T20 hundred from skipper Kieron Pollard at last propelled St Lucia Stars to a first Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) victory in 15 matches as the disappointment of 24 hours earlier was washed away in a dominant 38-run victory over Barbados Tridents.

The Stars had appeared certain to end their losing streak a day earlier against Trinbago Knight Riders, but failed to defend 85 in the last five overs to slide to a demoralizing five-wicket loss.

The schedule, though, presented the Stars with the chance to put things right immediately, and it was their captain who led by example, blasting his way to a six-laden 53-ball century – remarkably his first in T20s in his 384th innings – and sharing a sparkling 148-run partnership with Andre Fletcher (80 from 52) in a Hero CPL record score of 226/6.

And, despite 58 off 45 from Tridents opener Dwayne Smith, there was to be no repeat of the previous night’s heartbreak as Barbados’ run-chase stalled in the middle overs and came up well short on 188/6.

The Stars needed a good start with the ball to stop the old doubts resurfacing, and Mitchell McClenaghan provided it. The experienced New Zealander gave up just 20 runs in three Power Play overs with the new ball and picked up the key wicket of his international team-mate Martin Guptill.

Leg-spinner Qais Ahmad, who didn’t bowl a single ball in defeat to the Knight Riders, then stopped the run-chase in its tracks conceding just 29 from four overs bowled off the reel in the middle of the innings and picking up the big wickets of Dwayne Smith and Hashim Amla.

The required rate was up to 17 – the point it reached with five overs to against the Knight Riders, but this time with eight overs remaining.

It was too much. Nicholas Pooran smashed a couple over the ropes but was deceived by an Obed McCoy slower ball attempting a third and sliced the ball to deep extra-cover where David Warner held a steepling catch.

Steve Smith slapped three fours in the 16th over from namesake Odean Smith, but by now the required rate was well into the 20s.

Understandably perhaps, the Stars were visibly nervous as they looked to close out the game after such a long winless streak. McClenaghan’s final over cost 24 runs with Shai Hope hitting two sixes and Smith another. It would ultimately prove telling that those three sixes doubled the Tridents’ tally for the innings on a pitch that had seen more than 50 Hero Maximums in the previous three innings.

The relief around the Daren Sammy Stadium was palpable when Steve Smith perished in the next over, carving McCoy to deep point to depart for 28 from 16 balls. Finally, with the Tridents’ target reaching 58 from 12, the players and supporters in St Lucia could relax.

The Stars had made it clear right from the start of their innings that their response to the previous day’s disappointment was going to be an aggressive one.

Fletcher, the one batsman to miss out for the Stars against the Knight Riders, went after Mohammad Irfan from the off with the second and third balls of the innings disappearing into the stands. The next two both went for four and the Stars had 20 on the board after the first over.

Warner, perhaps caught up in the excitement of Fletcher’s early fireworks, flashed at the second ball of Jason Holder’s opening over to be caught behind.

Rahkeem Cornwall continued his pinch-hitting role at number three and he too took the fight straight to the Tridents attack. It was shot-a-ball stuff from the big all-rounder who hit two fours and three big Hero Maximums to reach 30 in just 10 balls before skying Wahab Riaz to mid-off.

Wahab had been held back until the second half of the innings in the Tridents’ opening victory in Guyana, but Holder had little option but to turn to him early here such was the extent of the carnage as the Stars raced to 56/1 from the first four overs. It paid off, with Lendl Simmons adjudged lbw to the very next ball after Cornwall’s departure.

It was clear, though, that the Stars were not in the mood to take the foot off the pedal here. The return of Irfan saw Fletcher carving a six over point and four more inside-out over extra cover as a breathless Power Play ended with 67/3 on the board.

Kieron Pollard, on the back of that 18-ball 50 against the Knight Riders, was soon also clearing the boundaries against his former team as the Stars raced to three-figures before the halfway stage of the innings.

Two boundaries for the Stars skipper took him into the 40s as 11 runs from Irfan’s final over saw the left-armer bring up his own unwanted half-century.

Fletcher and Pollard both reached half-centuries, in 34 and 33 balls respectively, but the Tridents were able to keep a lid on the scoring with only 41 runs coming from five overs between the 12thand 16th of the innings.

Ashley Nurse, Holder and Wahab were all giving the Tridents some control, but Barbados’ problems were Irfan and Reifer.

The return of Reifer for over 17 got the Stars back into top gear as Fletcher swatted a high no-ball for six and then dispatched the resultant free-hit for another Hero Maximum and then drilling the last ball of the over downtown for six more.

Holder couldn’t stem the flow this time as Pollard pulverised a short ball over midwicket onto the grass bank before going even bigger next ball as he sent a full delivery screaming high over the pavilion.

Another Pollard six brought up the 200 at the start of the 19th over; it was the 50th six in three innings at the Daren Sammy Stadium.

And the man himself was at the crease moments later when Fletcher fell for 80 from 52 as an attempted ramp found only short fine-leg.

A four through midwicket took Pollard into the 90s and with it his highest T20 score. A pair of scampered twos took Pollard to 98 and kept him on strike to launch another six down the ground and register that elusive first T20 hundred. He fell to the next ball, with Sammy following to his first, but it mattered not. This time, at last, the Stars had enough.

Upcoming Fixtures: Saturday 18 August – Jamaica Tallawahs v Guyana Amazon Warriors (8pm), Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida, Sunday 19 August – Jamaica Tallawahs v Trinbago Knight Riders (6pm), Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida.

yet another good performance by wahab. He should be selected in upcoming Asia cup squad. He is much better than trundler junaid khan.

Adopted Pakistanis Walton and Ronchi (IU teammates) opening the batting for Guyana. :yk2

Imad getting spanked by Hetmyer.

But...but Imad offers control :)) :)).
