Pakistan players turning instant millionaires after Champions Trophy win

Am I the only one who feels uncomfortable with the gift coming from a random car dealer. One can understand if it given by some big band as they want to promote their brands and products through this but this is just a local car dealer. Hopefully I am just being paranoid but it has been suggester earlier that gifts are best way for bookies to trap young cricketers.

congratulations shadab!!!!!!!!!!!!!! worth a 18 to 24 lack not bad man fantastic

Players, management to get Champions Trophy prize money

KARACHI: There was a common impression, or you may call it misconception, that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will take part of the Champions Trophy prize money.

But a formula has been devised according to which the PCB will keep no penny from the prize money of 2.2 million dollars which the Pakistan team won along with a glittering trophy.

As per the formula the 2.2 million dollars prize money will be divided into 17 shares — 16 squad players including Wahab Riaz who was replaced with Rumman Raees after suffering injury.

That means each player will get 1.294 lakh dollars (around 12.9 million rupees) while the 17th part (another 1.294 lakh dollars) will be equally distributed among the team management.

As per the PCB details the team staff was comprised of 13 people including the two media personnel, Raza Rashid and Oun Zaidi while there was a security manager as well in Major Azhar Arif and Shahid Aslam, in charge tour operations and team manager Talat Ali. Donald Dave Albert, the masseur from the Caribbean, was temporary staff member hired on a day-to-day fee. All these five members will not get any part of the prize money.

That leaves seven members in head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower, Fielding coach Steve Rixon, Physio Shane Hayes, Fitness trainer Grant Luden and analyst Mohammad Talha.

PCB has received an amount of 125,000 dollars as Participation Fee from the ICC as they usually get from the multinational ICC events.

These are professional cricketers and deserve to get what they're making. Don't understand why some people are complaining.

PM’s cash reward announcement for Pakistan cricket team challenged

ISLAMABAD: While winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 against their arch-rivals India turned out to be a cash bonanza for the Pakistan cricket team, there is a legal hurdle in the way of the players to become ‘instant millionaires’ as a lawyer has challenged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s announcement of cash rewards for the winning squad.

Justice Aamer Farooq of Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed on Monday Deputy Attorney General Raja Khalid Mehmood to apprise the court about the provisions of law enabling the prime minister to announce cash reward for the cricket team following their historic win in the final match of the tournament.

The DAG was directed to inform the court on July 4 under what law and to what extent the premier could give cash reward to the team and pronounce grants following a tragedy or disaster.

The directions came in response to a petition filed by Advocate Tariq Asad, challenging the decision whereby the premier had sanctioned to award Rs215 million to the winning squad.

As per the notification of June 21, the petitioner said, 15 players of the cricket team will receive Rs10 million each while 13 members of the team management will ‘pocket’ Rs5 million each, who already receive monthly salary as regular employees.

In the petition, Asad maintained that the team won the trophy for which they all deserve tribute but distribution of public funds in an extravagant manner is neither in the public interest nor in accordance with the law.

He said players and squad members get sufficient match money, funds from several other resources, salaries and benefits for playing first class cricket for different departments, and have contracts with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), making their normal income “over and above a 22-grade officer”.

K-P govt to build a school named after opener Fakhar Zaman

Referring to the recent oil tanker explosion in Ahmedpur East, Bahawalpur, where over 200 people lost their lives, Asad said it would not be out of place to mention that “there is no burn section in any nearby hospital”.

He lamented that the demand of the people to establish burn wards in local hospitals was turned down by the prime minister “with remarks that it is very expensive”, adding that people need health and education facilities instead of wasting rewards in an extravagant way.

“Such a huge amount may be utilised for public welfare,” he upheld, adding if the money has to be spent on sports/cricket then the best way is to give these funds to the 16 regions at the grass-root level where players cannot even buy essential cricket accessories to play the game.

Requesting the court to set aside the June 21 order, the petitioner urged that the funds may be utilised to provide basic amenities of life to the common people instead of extravagance.

The court will take up the case on July 4.

It's too much. I don't agree to spend public money without any proportion. I am not sure what Gov of UK announced for andy Murray for winning wembeldon or angelina Merkel for German football team. But Pakistan is democratic country, not monarchy and PM is representative not King to announce anything on emotions.

People may hate my comment but let me mention what I believe is correct

These things happens in Bangladesh too. Seems like South Asian thing, this.

They already feel they are the BEST in the world and have achieved it all but this actually reiterates what is wrong with Pakistan and its people.

Good for them. I would prefer to look at the positives of all these awards. It will re-ignite the passion of the youth in Pakistan to play cricket. It will make them realize that there are rewards on offer for success.

Some of these players are from poor backgrounds (Hassan Ali, Shadab). Who can begrudge them these riches? The message is that hard work will pay dividends.

PCB rubbishes rift in team due to disparity in prize money

The Pakistan Cricket Board has quashed speculations about Pakistan cricket team members being unhappy with disparity in prize money between captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Fakhar Zaman and other players.

Some television channels reported that members of the Pakistan squad had walked out of a function held in their honor at the Centuraus shopping mall in Islamabad after the organizers announced a plot of land for captain Sarfraz and a cash award of 500,000 rupees for opener Fakhar Zaman while 200,000 rupees other players.

'Duniya' channel reported that the players were not happy with their cash awards as Sarfraz and Zaman's takings were significantly more than others.

Video footage on the channel and later other clips on the social media showed some players walking out of the ceremony with reports claiming the players returned their cheques.

But an official of the PCB media department who was the media manager of the team in the Champions Trophy insisted there was no dissent or issues between the players over the awards given to them.

"I was there with the team for the function which was officially approved by the board. There was no walkout by the players and neither does any player have any issue or disagreement with the awards given to them and Sarfraz and Fakhar Zaman," Reza Ketchlew said.

"It is totally incorrect that players returned their cheques or walked out. After all the players including Sarfraz and Zaman were called on stage and given their awards, they came down and were seated at tables near the podium.

"But when the organizers called the team up for a photograph pandemonium broke loose as many in the crowd also started gathering on the podium. The management than decided to just send Sarfraz on stage for the photograph and it was also decided it was best for safety of players," he concluded.

Exactly, masala news by a channel....there was complete mismanagement by Centaurus administration, i believe they didn't even have any control on who was entering in the crowd...I saw some pictures of the event on Facebook shared by someone in which the players were getting pushed left right and centre.

KARACHI: Four of Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning squad members, including skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, were honoured by the Quetta Gladiators management at a glittering ceremony on Monday night.

Sarfraz along with Hasan Ali, a rising bowling star of Pakistan cricket who was declared player-of-the-tournament during the competition held in England last month, dashing opener Fakhar Zaman and pacer Rumman Raees Khan were presented with gold medallions and cash awards during the function held at a local hotel.

Also feted were Test batsman Asad Shafiq and discarded internationals Anwar Ali and Rameez Raja Jr in presence of a galaxy of notable personalities including the honourable Sindh governor Mohammad Zubair, who was the chief guest, squash legend Jahangir Khan as well as a number of ex-Pakistan cricketers, representatives of the sponsors besides some prominent political figures.

Recently retired Pakistan batting great Younis Khan was also honoured for becoming the country’s highest-scoring run-getter. The 39-year-old former Pakistan captain was decorated with a gold medal and a cash award for his meritorious services for the game.

Nadeem Omar, owner of PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators and managing director of Omar Associates, paid glowing tribute to all award winners.

“We are extremely happy to honour our cricketing heroes because they are ones who have made Pakistan proud. Jahangir, of course, is the king of all champions and a very humble person who is a role model for all of us while Younis too needs no introduction and his work ethics is something every sportsman should emulate,” Nadeem told the gathering. “Sarfraz is someone who is very close to me from a very young age. Leading Pakistan to Champions Trophy title is no mean achievement. Behind the scenes, we can all imagine the amount of pressure Sarfraz had to absorb because being the captain he had the most difficult task of keeping every [team member] together and get the best out of each individual.

“As we saw, Sarfraz’s never-say-die attitude lifted the team’s morale after the defeat against India in the first match. Fakhar, Hasan and Rumman along with rest of the bunch all played their part in Pakistan’s tremendous achievement and we should acknowledge them for bringing the nation together at a time when unfortunately, in our country there is a tendency of forgetting our sporting heroes.”

Younis, speaking briefly, lauded Sarfraz for his inspirational leadership while saying he had told him never to hold back anything that came into his thought. “As a senior player I was happy to see youngsters come to me for advice and Sarfraz is no exception. I used to tell not to go into a shell if he is confident that if there was a game-plan that he could implement without fear of failure. In that respect, I found Sarfraz a cricketer with great self-belief and this was proved during the Champions Trophy,” Younis observed.

Jahangir, in his speech, said: “I’m delighted at this function because cricket is another passion of mine. If I hadn’t taken up squash I would definitely been a cricketer. Being a world champion [Jahangir won 10 British Open and six World Open squash titles during a remarkable career] I know the feeling of a winner.

“These cricketers are talented bunch but they must keeping on working hard to maintain top form. Younis is one example of this because for 17 years, he trained and prepared himself to get where he has finished. Without dedication and devotion one cannot attain greatness in whatever field you belong to.”

Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair pointed out that by winning the Champions Trophy the cricketers have given no hope to the nation.

“This is a moment we must cherish and celebrate. Given the current scenario in the country, there is less to cheer about. But our cricketers have brought joy on the faces of the masses. We pray that Sarfraz and his team continues to bring further laurels for Pakistan and this, I hope, is just the beginning,” the honourable governor said.

Sarfraz, in his address, thanked Nadeem and Azam Khan, secretary of KCCA Zone-VI’s Pakistan Cricket Club, for playing a huge role in building his cricketing career. “This is a journey that began a long time ago when I was just a beginner. Both Nadeem and Azam have been the real inspiration who were instrumental in the development years of my career. Without them, I won’t have not come this far. I have no words to say except that I owe them everything I have achieved in my life.”

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright, who both play for Quetta Gladiators, along with Pakistan opener Azhar Ali, also paid tribute to Sarfraz and the Quetta team management through video messages.

The programme was conducted by PTV Sports head Dr Nauman Niaz and well-known PTV anchor Sidra Iqbal.

Late into the night renowned singer Faakhir Mehmood entertained the large audience with selected numbers from his collection, including the Quetta Gladiators team’s theme song Chaa Jaaye Quetta.

Is it just me or is Azam khan the biggest factor in keeping Karachi regional and department cricket competitive for all these years. I've noticed that a lot of these upcoming Youngsters, e.g Ruman, Sarfraz (when he was breaking into International cricket) etc have always credited Azam Khan with their success.

It's a shame that people like these, who make the very foundation of our cricketing society, never get the limelight they deserve - these are the folks that, in my view, essentially have kept things afloat even after almost a decade of no international cricket in Pakistan and a horrible domestic setup run by an incompetent PCB...

Kudos to their services to the nation !! :14: :14: :14:

Yes respect to him. By the way Sarfraz has mentioned him many times and you can see him with Sarfraz on Sarfraz's balcony in the welcome and also in other functions in Karachi.

Windfall awaits members of Pakistan team

Karachi: The Pakistan team that lifted the Champions Trophy in June, will be richer by a few million rupees as the PCB has received the winner’s prize money of 230 million rupees from the International Cricket Council.

Members of the Pakistan team have already been feted with cash awards, plots and luxury cars at functions and ceremonies organised to celebrate the victory.

According to details, the PCB has conveyed to the players and team management that out of the total prize money received from the ICC, there will be 16 shares for the players and one for the management.

Under this arrangement, each player is set to be richer by around 13.5 million rupees while the management, which includes all the coaches, will get around 10,00,000 rupees each. The Pakistan team won a total prize purse of USD 2, 200,000 and the amount has been sent to the PCB without any tax cuts.

The players as soon as they returned home were given a reception by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in which he awarded each player 10 million rupees each and 5 and 2.5 million each to the management and coaches while chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq also got 10 million rupees.

I don't like the idea of the PM rewarding them money out of public funds. He wants to reward them, then its gotta come from his personal bank account.

Did he get the promotion as a cricket player for their team or as an employee? Cause if it's the latter then that's just wrong and unethical.
