Pakistan players unmindful of healthy diet

He is still as fit as he was in his playing days. He can the players in our squad a run for their money at the age of 65.

How can you make this claim? Have you seen him pass the fitness test? One can easily hide his belly behind a loosely fitted kurta.

Our parosis easily surpass Sachinistas when it comes to worshipping Imran.

Seen video of him jogging shirtless, no sign belly atall. Praising an old guy fitness isn't like worshiping him. Jeff Hunt has been praised in Pakistan for being fit as compared to Jahangir khan who is obese.

Let me know of 60 year olds who look like this

Our 30 year old don't do this, and most of our ex sportsmen don't take care of their fitness and are overweight now.

I bet my bottom dollar Imran Khan today will beat Umar Akmal in a fitness test. Heck he will beat Sharjeel in a fitness

I always thought if you were to cut down on all the oil, butter and fried stuff than you get a healthy meal in pak cuisine. Rice and chicken are unhealthy. It's the way the are prepared with ghee and all that stuff.
Chicken is fine. It is the excessive oil, rice, and naan that are terrible for the weight.
Chicken is a relatively lean meat compared to the rest. (Goat, beef, lamb, steaks etc)

The top athletes usually eat only fish, chicken, vegetables. And occasionally they'll have a day out where they can eat less healthy stuff.

Cristiano Ronaldo's diet is strictly fish and vegetables. It is possible to eat healthy and still satisfy your taste buds. People just need to be smart about it. (Intelligence is something most of our board and players lack)

Yeah, but Indian team and many other athletes from other sports around the world are not edecauted either. They come from less privileged families who can't afford gluten free stuff. However, once they find out that to be number 1 and stay at number 1, you have to sacrifice.

It's far from proven that gluten is unhealthy etc.

It's more a function of putting in the hours in training and fitness etc.

You can have heavy desi food if you compensate by burning the calories and putting in intense exercise and running and hard yards everyday. Aussie players routinely drink ridiculous amounts of alcohol practically every day. Plenty of the Indians for that matter love getting hammered (though it won't be public knowledge). Needless to say alcohol isn't good for health.

Making every player into a saint is not the objective here. Pakistan has had plenty of elite athletes like Jahangir/Jansher Khan etc, and you can see they are now fat because once they stop exercising and training regimen the Pakistani diet is like that, but as long as they did train, they were the fittest in the worlds. Same with Wasim bhai etc.

The emotional cost of deciding from top that a Pakistani villager aged 20 now has to shift to some western nutritionists diet is worth considering.

Unless it's extremely bad, as long as the work is put in heavy food is fine.

Interesting example. Jahangir Khan was one of the fittest players while playing, which proves that as long as you train hard, the diet isn't the problem.

Imran was always a skinny man, some people have body like that. No matter what they eat they dont get fat.

All those pics with tons of food are misleading, Its our tradition to server an VIP with extravagant feast. It doesnt mean that the people in pics have eaten it all, the one with afridi, the volume of food is more than his entire body.

I think on the run these ex players eat whatever they can get but in limited quantity though they are served food for entire barat to them, but in their private lives they follow their strict diet.

On a side note, Imran still has his figure but he looks like 100 years old if you just look at his face. So many wrinkles, a bit too much for a guy just 65 years old.

Lunch and tea intervals.

About the lunch and tea interval offering. I assume it would be something light as they have to return to the field of play. Any idea what Pak players have for a snack or meal?:inzi

May be its not possible for professional players but I used to eat Biryani before playing cricket matches :))

It is possible to make healthy food tasty as well, otherwise fitness models would not be gorging on healthy stuff on a daily basis, just look at the recipes in their diets. Same goes for Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities as well.

exactly, you know what I have set a goal for my self to cut down all the bad carbs, right now I am eat nuts, fruits, egg whites, quinoa chaat with tofu, black chana chaat green vegetables mixed with rice and grilled chicken mixed with quinoa these are the things I am taking these days off course I am doing exercise as well, but the main thing I am munching on is nuts and fruits like orange

tbf I'd cut them some slack. If I was desi I'd be about 30 stone. desi food is so god damn delicious

Lords twitter account normally tweets the menu when there is a match there. Keep your eyes on their twitter page when the test starts.

I am sure things have changed since Arthur took over. They are more careful about carbs + sugar and fitness routine in general.

Our players seem to lose the plot when it comes to fitness when it's the off season. Shouldn't be difficult to stay in shape as a professional athlete. But when your national captain is overweight and has horrendous fitness levels , other players will think they can get away with it.

Which Pak cricketer he is?

Sorry dont recognize a lot of new Pak players

Compared this to the indian u19 team who have just won the youth world cup. The captain yash dhulk said that they will be only eating ice cream to celebrate the win. They had ato go by a strict diet during the whole world cup

That’s a good substitute for a bottle or can for those guys.

Kohli has led the way for them when it comes to fitness and nutrition

So much of Cricket being played , it’s going become like full Pro western sport, for the body to take so much cricket Indian players can’t be unfit anymore, it’s the way if the future esp you don’t have great metabolism.

I'm sure he watched what he ate

500 calories of nihari and paye aren't equal io 500 calories in a Caesar salad

Phelps didn’t eat Caesar salads though. He had loads of carbs, protein, and fats. On the BBC Olympics coverage they once laid out his breakfast (all eaten at 6AM) and it was an enormous table full of croissants, toast, cereals, fruit, preserves, bacon, eggs, and fresh juice. Approx. 3,000 calories.

Shoaib Malik surely follows a carefully planned diet.

When asked a few days ago about his breakfast, he said he had porridge and strawberries.

People seriously need to chill out. If a player looks fit and is effective on the field and between the wickets there is no reason for anyone to question what he does or does not put in his body.

Because how much you eat does not matter that much. What matters more is how many calories you burn. A balanced diet is integral to maintaining that. But just because someone has ice-cream, drinks Coke or smokes a sheesha doesn't mean you have the right to pass judgements on it.

If a player looks like Sharjeel, Azam Khan or even Ahsan Ali than that's a different story.

I was watching a Cricket Australia video the other day where all the Australian players were talking about how much Marnus Labusagne eats and how much ice-cream and yogurt he eats, but the guy is apparently also a freak when it comes to exercising and burning calories off which is probably why he looks fit as a fiddle.

It helps when you are married to a professional tennis player, but yes him and Hafeez put a lot of the younger guys to shame when it comes to fitness.

agree with this 80%. As long as you burn those calories not really an issue. Misbah is famous for 10+ naans with mutton karahi, but he was also a fitness freak and burned that off.

However, smoking shesha and cigs are a nono. It affects your lungs and your stamina. The endurance of your lungs take a hit. I find it ridiculous that a cig smoker like Wahab Riaz is the sports minister of Punjab........

Have I missed something? I think ifti isnt eating anything unhealthy

I meant restaurant food - not under the supervision of their nutritionist etc - on a tour/during a tournament etc

But the food they will get in hotel room and stadium would also be restaurant food

Vetted by ....
Don't really think any vets the food.

Like we all remember Usain bolt infamous triple win, the next day during his interview he reveals he had chicken nuggets from McDonald's before his race

Cricket players should be asked not to promote sugary beverages: Panah

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan National Heart Association (Panah) has written a letter to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf, suggesting that he play his role to stop promotion of beverages by Pakistani players.

“Sugary drinks are one of the major causes of many types of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including heart, diabetes, kidney disease and various types of cancer. Therefore, the PCB should discourage advertisement of sugary drinks,” the letter stated.

It may be mentioned here that some cricketers have been promoting sugary beverages.

Talking to media on Monday, Panah Secretary General Sanaullah Ghumman said more than 33 million people were living with diabetes in Pakistan.

“Another 10 million people are pre-diabetic. Pakistan ranks first in the world with the fastest growth of diabetes. Around 400,000 people die in Pakistan every year due to diabetes and its complications alone. If no immediate measures are taken, by 2045, the number of diabetics in Pakistan will increase to 62 million,” he said.

Mr Ghumman said sugary drinks were one of the major causes of many NCDs, including diabetes.

“Sugary drinks alone increase the risk of diabetes by 30 percent. A small glass of sugary drinks contains 7 to 9 teaspoons of sugar, which leads to a rapid increase in disease. Our children and youth watch cricket with great passion and consider the players as their heroes. When these players take part in the promotion of sugary drinks, there is a chance of a rapid increase in the consumption of these drinks among the youth, which is causing diseases among the youth,” he said.

“I appeal to the cricket board as well as the players that you are our heroes. The younger generation follows you. Any action you take changes their life, so please keep the young generation in mind while taking part in promotions of beverages,” he said.
DAWN

I think that Pakistani players don't have any clue what these kinds of drinks will do to their fitness. PCB really should ask these players to stop promoting such drinks let alone drink them.
