Pakistanis are the happiest among all their bordering nations, a 2018 United Nations report on happiness revealed.

According to the sixth World Happiness Report, Islamabad is 58 points ahead of its arch-rival India, 11 points ahead of all-weather friend China, 31 of Iran, and 70 points ahead of Afghanistan on the ranking table of happiness.

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network's annual survey report ranked Pakistan on the 75 spot among 156 countries. The ranking was based on six indicators: income per capita, life expectancy, social support, freedom, generosity and corruption.

The report declared Finland the world’s happiest country whereas Burundi bagged the last position; Bangladesh was ranked 115, down 40 points compared to Pakistan; Sri Lanka was ranked 116; China 86; Iran 106; India 133; and Afghanistan was ranked 145 on the index.

Norway, Denmark and Iceland clinched the second, third and fourth position, respectively.

Happiness of migrants

The issue of migration was placed at the heart of the 2018 report, which also ranked 117 countries according to the happiness of their immigrants.

“The most striking finding of the report is the remarkable consistency between the happiness of immigrants and the locally born,” said John Helliwell, co-editor of the report and a professor at the University of British Columbia.

The study found that the 10 happiest countries in the overall rankings also scored highest on immigrant happiness.

According to the report's website, the World Happiness Report was compiled "by a group of independent experts acting in their personal capacities".

"Any views expressed in this report do not necessarily reflect the views of any organisation, agency or programme of the United Nations," reads the disclaimer.

I don't know about rankings, but too many people at one place will never make anyone happy.

Its like comparing a family of 4 with a family of 15.

It's obvious really, average Pakistanis have a better standard of living than Indians which include 800 Million people living under poverty and are thus more content with their lives.

All this Big talks of being an Economic PowerHouse, spending massively on military pursuits , failed Moon ambitions does no favor to the common man of the country but only a fake show of Image around the world and a few E-nationalists to brag about on online forums.

Don't know what is there to be happy about being a pakistani. Maybe just good looks, sports, music..otherwise nothing to be happy about.

Lolz....if we expect more from india it doest mean india is not ahead of pakistan in each and every department.
Guess what you are happier than your masters chineese as well ...see the ranking.

Wow what an achievement! Both countries are miserable places, no wonder they are no where near the top. 75 is hardly one of the happiest.

Being born in an overpopulated country like India is nothing short of a curse anyway, doomed for life.

Been to many third world countries in South America and Caribbean. Some of the most happiest people i have met are in those countries with enough to live life in peace.

Dilemma Indians are facing is that as India get richer the people of India wants more of metals and cosmetics, emulating western culture, a form of temporary happiness.

In western world everyone is trying to get more and more than they already have, but in other part of the world they just have enough to keep them in peace.

Oh, that explains Pakistan being ranked at the bottom of Global Hunger Index, or any other index you can think of.

Lols jidhar apna matlab hou udhar Numbers game kheil liya karo *clap* *clap*

I am more concerned about us being beaten narrowly by Suomi:/

Pakistan would have been in top 10 but a certain guy is single-handedly skewing our results :))

Don't know what you are on about, but I have always been a huge critic of over population in India.

800 million people living in poverty. That is exactly the excess population that India has been carrying.

Had India been at a total populaiton of 600 million, our standard of living would have been much higher. Heck, UP & Bihar themselves combined have close to 600 million people.

Same for me, the poor I've met around the world in various continents have always seemed happier than the wealthy.

Indians seem to be moody people from my experience in the UK and on this forum.

The rankings seem a bit skewed. The top 10 are all countries which have taken in a large influx of migrants, and according to the survey, immigrant happiness was a significant factor in the happiness rankings.

We are generally happy people. No doubt about it. We would be in the top ten when a pro-Pak government takes charge, insha Allah:azhar2

I don't know who you are referring to but going through the list I noticed that America's rating worsened compared to last year . Guess who moved there recently :yk

Well, you yourself (don’t want to bring in parents here) have contrubuted to that 1 billion+ number.
And all those Indians (and pakistanis for that matter) who keep crying about over-population, if you were not here maybe some of the rest of the population would have had better lives?

Not surprisingly. The faith does play some role. That being said, Pakistan doesn't have that creepy obsession with others that certain nation do which to the extent hatred to no bound.

Afghanistan is miserable nation because it is such hateful nation. So does the other that focuses on obsessing with isolation and marketing image rather than improvise the nation and its living standard with the disposal resources thus being wasted excessively.

All the top ranked Nations are atheists.

As per World bank its 22%- 270 millions in 2012. Still a pretty large number though. Interesting fact are that:
62% of the poor are from 7 states only (incl. Bihar/UP) and these 7 states carry 45% of total population of 1.2 Bil.
Even in the middle-upper middle class, the unhappiness is more or less evident. They always aspire for more than rather being content with what they have and always in the lookout for an upgrade in their life-style. Eddie Vader sums it up right

I think your logic is incorrect here. You are mistaking effect for causality. Atheism does not cause happiness or eradicate poverty.

When countries do well, people are generally economically better. i.e. they survive and prosper. This allows them the freedom to think critically which leads to questioning the idea of god. Which eventually leads to atheism.

Then you look at the poorer nations where people are fighting for day to day living. They are always under pressure and thus are easily manipulated by religion which allows them things in the next life, that they cannot achieve in this life.

If you even look within the US, the poorer states are more religious than the ones that are doing better. Of course, I am talking on average as a population.

I don't know whether you are agreeing or disagreeing with the OP. Atheism occurs naturally when you have educated (real education) the masses and eradicated (somewhat) poverty. The thing is we all have something withing ourselves called HOPE which is the main reason for religion still. A belief in a higher power just soothes the soul and takes things out of ones helpless hands which is quite an accomplishment in its self. I am all for it if it as I have been prone to praying in desperate situations myself, albeit not to a specific God or deity.

However it is very natural that an educated and rational person looks through all the discrepancies in all the organized religions and refutes it. The way forward is to correctly educate the populace and improve their living conditions.

With all the corruption in India and the ever growing discontent among the middle class in India, it is hardly a surprise. The only people who are really happy in India would be those selected few capitalists who actually run the country behind the nominal government. Corruption and reservation is whats keeping India from moving forward.

The hate in your heart keeps you unhappy. Less hate in your heart, more happy you will be Insha Allah.

Sorry, just gotta rain on your parade
The ranking results is counter intuitive when it come to some dimensions, for "instance if rate of suicide is used as a metric for measuring unhappiness, (the opposite of happiness), then quite some of the countries which are ranked among the top 20 happiest countries in the world will also feature among the top 20 with the highest suicide rates in the world."

This also excludes the correlation between atheism and alcoholism and addiction in general, there is a science daily report on that online, so checkmate atheists :P
