Pakistan Shaheens to face England Lions in white-ball series in Abu Dhabi [3 T20s and 5 One-Day matches from 20 February to 9 March]

Ordinary batting this... Saad Baig should be replaced with Rohail and Hasan nawaz should open with Shamyl, maaz at 3. rohail and samad can come in next.

LOL... Hasan nawaz's place was eaten by Babar. he was this... he was that... Sir but but talent.
Respectfully, we know what we get with Babar and he is starting to disappoint and has for some time.

Someone like Hasan has huge potential, whether he realises it- that is the key- when did we last have someone with the potential he has shown in Nz overseas and then even in odi's?

Even sufyan looks oridinary shaheens r fighting but have they got enough is the question

Pakistan Shaheens produced a spirited all-round performance but went down by four wickets against England Lions in the first T20 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery One in Abu Dhabi on Friday afternoon.

After being put in to bat, Pakistan Shaheens posted 152 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Shamyl Hussain led from the front with a well-compiled 57 off 39 balls, featuring four fours and as many sixes, anchoring Shaheens’ innings.

Shamyl added 56 runs for the opening wicket with Maaz Sadaqat (17,18b,2x4s), while Saad Baig (21, 20b, 2x4s) and Abdul Samad (21,12b, 2x6s) provided momentum through the middle overs.

Arafat Minhas coming to bat at number seven finished strongly with an unbeaten 13 off nine balls, which included two fours helping Shaheens cross the 150-run mark.

For England Lions, James Coles and Saqib Mahmood picked up two wickets each.

In turn, Pakistan Shaheens made early inroads as Akif Javed struck twice inside the powerplay to remove Will Smeed and England Lions captain Jordan Cox, leaving the opposition under pressure in the chase.

Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood and Sufiyan Muqeem chipped in with a wicket apiece, keeping Shaheens in the contest through the middle overs. That the Lions were able to achieve the target in 19.1 overs was due to an unbeaten 64 from Asa Tribe, who struck six fours and a six.

Pakistan Shaheens will look to bounce back in the second T20 which is set to take place at the same venue on Sunday, 22 March. The first ball of the match will be bowled at 2pm local time.

Scores in brief:

England Lions 153-6, 19.1 overs (Asa Tribe 64 not out, Ben McKinney 24; Akif Javed 2-22)

Player of the match – Asa Tribe (England Lions)

And Pakistan is full of talent who aren’t getting picked because of older talent not giving chances to the youngsters
Name me one youngster in this match who could get into that Pakistan xi
none of the players on the side could even tie up babar azams shoelaces
Where all the apologists now for team selection and selection panels

This England is a strong xi cox and saqib have played for England main side.

No talent at all in pak thats for sure. I am glad minhas didnt play as t 20 wud ruin him hopefully will play onw days

We are far behind this lions side. It's a strong squad they have put together.

Well looking at the positives shaheena did give them a game but from the start they made they shudnt have made 150 and also again the balance for a t20 team is wrong i mean that amir khan guy wasnt even selected un original squad and yet he was playing

Look, the first game was not the result we wanted. But the whole point of Shaheens games is to give these lads high level reps, to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.

Thus the time to come to conclusions about the merit of these guys isn’t after the first game, it’s after the last one. And if we can get even two-three guys who can make consistent impacts inshAllah in these games, it means that the Shaheens programme is doing its work.

InshAllah I hope the boys go on and be much more competitive in the remaining games.

2nd game today.

Hopefully Shaheens will produce a good result here... Rohail Nazir should play ahead of Saad baig...

Pathetic from akif 2 no balls already and it has cost him a wicket. He's has this problem for a long time and he still hasn't sorted it out.

Awful discipline pathetic catch droppeeld aswell along with the no balls plus noball wicket

Yes what future do these have if they play like this i dnt care about T20 micky mouse stuff thats why i am happy sameer hasnt played but they still need to show discipline

Saad baig has been useless so far... missed a chance stumping this time.. Bad with the bat in t20s as well

Ok so this keeper is pretty awfull i am not a fan of rohail as he hasnt done welll at domestic in my opinion but saad has struggled

Bad captaincy too there is no need to bowl saad masood when arafat and muqeem have bowled well

Saad baig's keeping is pathetic... Sarfaraz should do something about it

Clearly Maaz is just a hack too we clearly have no talent and to think what India batting keep producing i am amazed

Shamyl seems the only one with some batting talent and brins. Maaz too has some talent but is playing like a brainless slogger.

The rest are a joke bar Hasan Nawaz who's already played for Pakistan.

Hasan is here lets see 1 off 5 so far ...

I was hoping samad wud do well but he is a hack ..i mean look at lions all their batters are bowling n getting wickets yet our tail is so huge

Maaz had a good tournament in emerging cup but overall his style of play is patchy. Akif has been a proper disappointment. Saad Baig is neither a good keeper nor a batter. Samad is a proper hack of the highest order. Nawaz is going downward with every innings. Shahid Aziz and Daniyal are just not good enough as either batter or bowler. Arafat has bowled decent but nothing special with the bat so far. Saad Masood is a worse bowler than even Shadab and that's saying something.

These are some of the most hyped individuals but they all seem like unfinished products. Add to that the bizarre tactics and it just paints a depressing picture of future of Pak cricket.

The Lions mind you, don't even have a wrist spinner. It's just simple ordinary finger spinners who are not even trying to spin the ball.

You hit the nail on the head there brother..now awful running ..nawazz playing a test match . As i said i dnt care about T20 but i am sincerely hoping sameer minhas does well one in one days

Pak and Shaheens are facing the same problem. There are two many bits and pieces players and the specialists are just one dimensional and not even that good. They need to get Sameer in the third T20 to see if he has anything to offer or not. One of the bowlers can be removed and Sameer needs to come in. There's no point in having 4 bowlers when someone like Maaz isn't even bowling.

Arafat. Maaz. Saad. These are the three spin bowling options. Either drop one of the medium pacers or drop the spinner and get Minhas in. An extremely unbalanced side at the moment.

England Lions beat Pakistan Shaheens by 32 runs

Abu Dhabi, 22 February 2026:

England Lions beat Pakistan Shaheens by 32 runs in the second T20 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery One in Abu Dhabi on Sunday afternoon to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The third match of the series will be played at the same venue on Tuesday, 24 February with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 7.30pm local time.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to field, Pakistan Shaheens made early inroads when Shahid Aziz dismissed Will Smeed for a first-ball duck. Ben McKinney (38, 25b, 6x4s) and Lions captain Jordan Cox (34, 30b, 4x4s, 1x6) steadied the innings with a brisk stand, before Saad Masood struck twice to finish with figures of two for 38 in three overs.

However, James Coles anchored the latter half of the innings and remained unbeaten on 48 off 30 balls, which included four fours and two sixes, as Lions posted 183 for five.

Right-arm fast bowler Shahid Aziz, who was playing his first match of the series, grabbed two wickets for 26 runs in his four overs.

In turn, Pakistan Shaheens got off to a decent start courtesy captain Shamyl Hussain (20, 15b, 1x4, 2x6s) and Maaz Sadaqat, who top-scored with 32 off 25 balls, including two fours and as many sixes. The pair added 41 for the first wicket in 4.2 overs, but regular breakthroughs halted the chase.

Left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig (20, 18b, 1x6) and Hasan Nawaz (20, 24b, 1x4) attempted to rebuild the innings, before Saad Masood, coming in at number seven scored 30 off 17 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes.

Shahid (15, 7b, 1x4, 1x6) also chipped in with a cameo, but the required rate proved too steep as Shaheens were eventually dismissed for 151 with three balls to spare.

Left-arm spinner Coles starred with the ball as well, returning figures of four for 18, while Scott Currie and Sonny Baker picked up two wickets apiece for the winning side.

Scores in brief:

England Lions beat Pakistan Shaheens by 32 runs

England Lions 183-5, 20 overs (James Coles 48 not out, Ben McKinney 38, Jordan Cox 34; Shahid Aziz2-26, Saad Masood 2-38)

Pakistan Shaheens 151 all out, 19.3 overs (Maaz Sadaqat 32, Saad Masood 30; James Coles 4-18, Sonny Baker 2-24, Scott Currie 2-30)

Player of the match – James Coles (England Lions)

I think @Bewal Express mentioned about maaz balance being not right at the crease which is pretty evident. He won't succeed at international level. I hope I am wrong but he seems to be another bits and pieces cricketer.

Not sure how Saad baig has made the squad. He is a very poor batsmen with no ability and his keeping is equally terrible.

Spot on about Saad maaood, his batting is also not better than shadab.

Sameer shudnt play T20s i hope they dont put him in

It's a huge learning curve for some of these youngsters. They need to be constantly exposed to this level of players in their development.

Sameer shudnt play T20s i hope they dont put him in

In an ideal world I would agree with you but that's not going to happen. He's already picked in the PSL and most of his life, he will spend being a T20 merchant.

The better thing is to get him game time against teams like Lions at early stage of his career. The biggest learning curve for Pak batters is to play taller bowlers as they are a rare commodity in our domestic cricket. The left arm spinner in the Lions team has caused havoc for Pak batters and one of the reasons for that is his height. Sameer also didn't do well against the English U19 in the world cup so it'll be good to see if he has learnt anything from that experience or not.

Out of this Shaheen squad only Shamyl Hussain have impressed me so far. Hasan Nawaz, Samad and keeper are biggest disappointment so far. Maaz Sadaqat is also not ready for international..only Shamyl Hussain deserve to be selected for national team ..he got good cricketing brain and is a genuine batsman..he reminds me of young Yuvraj Singh ..

Def shamyl Hussain has put in the hard yards and improved his game. Hasan Nawaz has regressed big tym let game get to his head and now he’s finished.

Quite a few of the Shaheens squad have played for Pak or are PSL stalwards
And yet we still lost by a hefty margin...

well lets see what happens in One Days as i dont care about T20s. I have feeling it will be similar results

England Lions edged Pakistan Shaheens by two wickets in the third T20 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery One, Abu Dhabi, on Tuesday evening, sealing the series 3-0. Both teams now turn their focus to the upcoming five-match one-day series starting Friday, 27 February at the same venue.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan Shaheens overcame early setbacks to post 162 for six in 20 overs. Opener Maaz Sadaqat anchored the innings with a fluent 53 off 36 balls, striking four boundaries and two sixes. Later, Saad Masood (29* off 22) and Shahid Aziz (30* off 18) added an unbeaten 59-run stand for the seventh wicket, lifting the total past 160. Scott Currie (3 wickets) and James Coles (2 wickets) were the pick of the Lions’ bowlers.

In reply, Pakistan’s attack struck early as Mohammad Salman dismissed Will Smeed in the second over. Maaz contributed with the ball too, claiming two for 29, while leg-spinner Saad tightened the middle overs with two for 22. Despite their efforts, Lions’ skipper Jordan Cox turned the tide with a blistering 75 off 37 balls, hammering five fours and six sixes.

The Shaheens fought back late through Sufiyan Muqeem and Shahid Aziz, aided by sharp fielding that produced a run-out, keeping the contest alive until the final over. Ultimately, England Lions crossed the finish line in 19.3 overs, clinching victory with two wickets in hand.

Yes correct i been saying all along no talent at all. Rohail played instead of Saad and got a first ball duck. I didnt want Sameer to play in T20s but he played yesterday and did look to be struggling but maybe its just this format i hope he does well in One days

Pakistan Shaheens will aim to make a winning start against England Lions when the five-match 50-over series begins on Friday, 27 February. All five matches of the series will be played at the Stadium Oval in Abu Dhabi. The first ball of each match will be bowled at 10am local time, with only the fourth 50-over match, scheduled on Friday, 6 March set to begin at 3pm local time.

Both sides featured in a three-match T20 series from 20 to 24 February at the Stadium Oval, which was won by the Lions 3-0. England captain Jordon Cox led from the front by scoring 111 runs from three outings, while left-arm spinner James Coles claimed eight wickets in the series.

Despite Shaheens going down in the series, 21-year-old left-handed batter Maaz Sadaqat scored 102 runs from three matches, which included one half-century. Captain Shamyl Hussain also struck a half-century in the series.

In the bowling department, right-arm leg-spinner Saad Masood picked five wickets, while right-arm fast bowler Shahid Aziz bagged three wickets from two matches. Saad and Shahid also contributed with the bat, especially in the third T20, scoring unbeaten 29 and 30 runs, respectively and knitted an unbroken 59-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

The series will be broadcast on Ten Sports in Pakistan, while it will be live-streamed on Myco across the country. The matches will be available to viewers in the UK on PCB’s OTT platform. In Bangladesh, the series will be broadcast live on T Sports and will also be available on Myco via streaming, while Myco will broadcast the action in the MENA region. Fans can also catch the action live on the Sports Central YouTube channel.

Ijaz Ahmed Jnr, head coach of Pakistan Shaheens while talking to PCB Digital on the eve of the 50-over series said:

“Following the T20s, the one-day series gets underway from tomorrow and our preparations have gone well. However, transitioning from T20 cricket to the 50-over format is never easy for any player as it is a completely different challenge. To address this, we have set small, clear goals for the players, breaking the game into achievable phases.

“Reflecting on the T20 series, we were unable to execute our plans effectively in both batting and bowling. In batting, particularly during the middle overs, we failed to build partnerships, I believe we were short by 25 to 30 runs, as partnerships during the 7th to 15th overs were crucial and did not materialise.

“From a development standpoint, this tour presents a valuable opportunity for the players. England Lions are a strong side with several international-quality players and the environment here closely mirrors international cricket. I am confident the players will take a lot of learning from this experience.

Longer format... Perfect for guys like Saad baig and Sameer minhas to cash in and make a name.

The shaheens are awful. The set up from u19 seems too much for Sameer. He looks hopeless here.

Maaz seems a walking wicket against decent bowlers with Shamyl looking hopeless against anything moving away. None of these guys seem international material. The less said about Abdul samad and Saad baig the better.

And people were crying for inclusion of Maaz... He looks totally off color so far.

These are still the best available from whatever I've seen of your domestic talent pool.

Shamyl, Maaz and Sameer are pretty good. It's just that they are stepping up and there's a huge gap from PAK domestic/U19 to 'A' level and then international cricket.

The more I watch him the more convinced I am that he will be another bits and pieces cricketer.

The only glimmer of batting talent in this batch is Sameer. People are glazing over Shamyl and his English but he in his current avatar is a worse batter than Imam and did not deserve the captaincy at all. Not sure how much power does a captain have in team selection but Shaheens are clueless about team selection right now.

Lions have totally exposed these players in 4 straight outings.

I do agree that these are the best available players but they look out of place. As you rightly pointed out the gap is too much and it will only be increasing looking at our domestic structure.

The team balance is awful surely the management is to blame for this. I doubt a captain would have much say specially in the A team. As bad as Imam is he looks far better than these lot which says a lot.

Great talent we have no doubt :(

Abysmel performances...i appreciate lions are good and have domestic experience but this is not good. Batting is awful Sameer wasnt easy at the crease aswell who i had my batting hopes set for. I dont know what else to say apart from we are doomed...

That's why I'm not blaming him 100% for the team selection but his bowling changes & field placements are atrocious & his batting is super ordinary. People most often don't watch these matches but have opinions on them but if you watch, it's easy to see that he's as ordinary as anyone else & that crouch before facing the ball is a massive flaw in his already limited technique.

Pakistan currently has a lot of players who are neither that good with the bat nor with the ball. The team management in trying to have balance is pushing these players but they don't even have one core skill that is good enough for them to compete at the highest level. This is the English team of the 90s with bits and pieces players like Hollioake, Ealham, etc. who aren't really bad cricketers but also you cannot win with them. You can have one or two of them in the team but having 4 or 5 just makes you weaker instead of stronger.

The problem is, & I know it is a massive problem, we don't even have the specialists who can replace these bits and pieces players. Tayyab Tahir, Irfan Niazi, Kamran Ghulam, Hassan Nawaz, etc. who are considered specialists are also not pulling up their weight so we are in this quagmire.

4 consecutive defeats for Shaheens so far on this tour... 1st One day game also done and dusted... Lost the match by 9 wickets....LOL

Agreed. He's has this crouch since his pjl and unfortunately this won't work long at higher level. He is moving when the ball is being bowled hence why he looks rushed when the ball is not in his zone.

Both Maaz and Shamyl techniques are quite poor and are not one of an opener. Decent bowlers won't let them get away with it.

As you pointed out the specialist are equally bad if not worse. I have played against Tayyab Tahir a couple of times and he looked awful even for an overseas player. His technique looked all over the place against club bowlers who were moving the ball. Explains why he's got poor fc stats.

Hasan Nawaz seems to have forgotten how to bat and is playing as if he drawing a test game and has lost all his ability. Instead of improving our players are deteriorating at an alarming rate.
